What do you think is the most important guitar in the history of metal?
This is a late 70’s Gibson Flying V that James borrowed from an auditioning Metallica guitarist which he never gave back 😱 He performed with it in from the second-ever Metallica show into the early 80’s prior to recording Kill ‘Em All, where he would end up selling this guitar for cash to tour. The guitar is then was resold and... now I’m playing it for you ;)

Actually he was killing it before they were even born. He was killing it before anybody had ever heard the name "Jimi Hendrix" or "Eric Clapton" as well. Honestly and sadly a lot of the reason so many people know Albert now is because of the people he massively influenced and he never really got his respect in his time from the masses. There's not a single blues guitarist since that hasn't straight up ripped him off and what are all known as "cliches" now were just straight up Albert King licks back in the day. Freddie never got his due in his life either but he's one of the absolute all time greats that also massively influenced the icons.

How ever, there's footage of James playing (what I assume to be) that same guitar in 1983 at The Metro for the song Phantom Lord. How ever it may be completely different guitar since there are many differences between this, and the Metro guitar. For an example, different truss rod cover, different pickups, different bridge, different knobs, different pickup selector placement etc. It's hard to know if the guy who bought the guitar made those modifications himself, or if that's just a completely different brown Flying V.

I own a white ‘79 Gibson V and it’s an awesome guitar. The narrow neck (39mm at the nut) takes a bit of getting used to at first but once you’re accustomed to it mine plays like a dream. I have it set up as low as the bridge will go and there’s still zero fret-buzz, I’ve never had to touch the truss rod. Still has the Gibson T-top humbuckers and all the original pots and wiring harness which all work perfectly. It hasn’t lived in the case all of its life either and has travelled all around the planet many times so it has plenty of signs of being played hard. One of the few guitars that I can honestly say I’d never sell. I bought it around 20 years ago for a very reasonable price but in the time I’ve had it the prices on these mid 70’s to early 80’s Vs has gone crazy.
