- Watch the flagship aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth returning to it's homeport in Portsmouth after 4 months of repairs in Rosyth, Scotland. Hundreds lined the shore on a hot summer's evening to see the warship come in after attending a Cowe's Week event on the Isle of Wight.
In February 2024, an issue was discovered with a propeller shaft coupling. Deployment on Exercise Steadfast Defender was cancelled as a result. HMS Prince of Wales stepped up for the training exercise instead, as seen here: • Huge aircraft carrier ...
On July 30th, the aircraft carrier returned to His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth after being drydocked in Rosyth, Fife, Scotland for 4 months of repairs. This was after HMS Prince of Wales had a separate propeller shaft issue in 2022, requiring HMS Queen Elizabeth to fill in for a deployment to New York back then. The two carrier capability is designed to work in a way that allows the other aircraft carrier to step in when one is unavailable.
During the homecoming, several police boats of the Ministry of Defence Police escorted the Royal Navy vessel into Portsmouth Harbour. The channel was closed for all marine traffic while this movement took place. Tugs from Serco escorted the aircraft carrier under it's own steam and provided assistance known as 'indirect towing' as it docked.
A non-Serco tug from the Port of Southampton lost their towline when it snapped at 7:14 in the video; this was replaced at 10:32 with another tug that came into assist.
Recorded: July 30th, 2024

I swear the beautiful HMS Q.E. gets longer and bigger every time I see her! Great footage!👍Thanks!
The world's most stagnant empty parking lot.
@@cammieg4381 was it damaged or refit? Gonna need every surface ship in coming. Months
@user-ht1xu4gv2u it went in for regular maintenance after an introductory deployment, alongside the U.S.S. Gerald R Ford.
@@Americanp8riot83 it seems to be in perpetual maintenance. hahahaha.
Neat looking carrier. Love the big windows overlooking the flight deck with the huge wiper blades. Love watching the tugs work too
Yeah it's a pretty unique design! Happy to have provided you the video.
Wonderful moment at the beginning, when she appears from behind the building. Thanks for posting.
I like getting that angle of the carriers emerging over buildings and dwarfing the skyline. Thank you Barb!
A MAGNIFICENT SITE.
What a beautiful majestic warship. Wishing it the very best
beautiful video. She's truly beautiful ship and worthy of her namesake.
Nice to see HMSQE coming back to her berth. ❤
0:41 I'm making an educated guess at what the Copper's telling the 2 lads in the dingy: "Get the F off my water and get yourselves over there 👉, where my colleagues are waiting to give you a right royal reeming!"
Great video mate
Hey Buddy!!! Lot-3 here...its 5:50pm here in Ontario..these shots are great man!!!
Stay cool..my apartment been 80* for 5 days
Thanks, Ronn!!! Sounds hot in Lot 3!
Sure is my friend... thinking about moving next spring
Wow, those planes are so stealthy you can't see them.
Is it just me or do Britain’s aircraft carriers? Spend more time in Port being retrofitted fixed maintenance then back to be fixed then back for some regular maintenance that could’ve been done when it was being retrofitted? I don’t seem to spend a lot of time at sea actually doing deterrent type things And it would be interesting. Know how many F35 each aircraft carrier has operationally available but one time
It's a totally new design and class so there is always some breaking in. In the long run it will prove itself of course.
@Rob1972Gem, She can carry up to 72 aircraft (fixed and rotary), with a maximum capacity of 36 F-35B fighter jets.
Although in **reality** she'll only carry 24 F35Bs (this is going on the assumption [which the British Army taught me MANY years ago is the "Mother of all fcuk ups!"] the MoD gets all 138 F35s we've asked for!).
Side note: her aircraft complement will be a mix of RAF and Fleet Air Arm Squadrons.
@@GlasgowCeltic88 138 F35 across two aircraft carriers plus the ones based on land and then taking into account ones which are out of action through breakdowns ones are out of action through regular maintenance schedules doesn’t really leave us a lot spread between the two aircraft carriers and land based operations. It’s like you say cock up didn’t buy enough.
6 years after delivery the USS Gerald R Ford was still not battle ready.
@@gjmob Nor can it carry F-35s... and it well never do so.
Wheres HMS Boaty McBoatface?
Like #7. Can't watch till later Cobra...talk then my friend
Regal😊😊
Had to do it with 1 tug down as seen on the video the rope that leads to the tug boat "Englishman" red tug at the stern broke
Yup! Made a snapping sound.
Look Russia like crew or like Captain , good tranning
I'm the only one, who thought this was named in honour of QEII.
Why the ramp, though?
Stovl ? Who invented most carrier technology?

Hundreds may have shown there support ?? Maybe their people serve on board . BUT What a waste of tax payers money ,as this ship can be taken out with a hyper missile
@@merrybolton2135 we also have hypersonic missiles and aircraft carriers usually operate outside missile range surrounded by a large escort
