Insieme a Helmut walka sono due grandi, bach vuole nitidezza di tocco senza sbavature e questi due organisti hanno tutto questo.(se faccio qualche sbaglio quando scrivo scusate non sono pratico del pc, sono all'antica)
I think the Passacaglia is one of the most difficult piece to play on organ. Maybe in another way... it's not hard to play, but it's very hard to play WELL.
Sorry for my inadequate English. I disagree! Richter came from the romantic tradition, a style unknown to Bach. Richter didn't care how to restore the baroque style.
Ivan Arias Balsa Quite obviously, not. They're different. That's why it's called either a rendition or an interpretation. There's no right or wrong here. Just a different sensibility from 2 different players. That's why I carefully chose to say "not sure which I prefer" rather than "not sure which is the better". Preston is better than Roog in your ear. There. Fixed that for you :)
+Charlotte Whyte Better than that, Charlotte : there are even 2 different recordings of Lionel Rogg on youtube :D. Just type "BWV 582 Rogg" in the search bar, and enjoy.
Me too! - Everybody should hear every one of Peter Hurford's superb performances of Bach, at least once in their lifetime, or their life has been incomplete. [ same is true of Simon Preston, E Power Biggs, Helmut Walcha (who played them ALL while profoundly blind !) and Marie-Claire Alain ] : ... these incredible virtuosos dedicated their lives to Bach's organ music so we could all hear it at it's best - or very close to it - maybe Bach played it even better, because He knew the precise purpose of every note, that He wrote, for posterity, and all who can still hear it.
This is the most exquisite performance of BWV582 that I have ever heard.
The fugue is stunning.

RIP. You have made may people happy.
Thank you for this performance.
everytime I listen to this can't stop myself crying...
Likewise and I've listened to it hundreds of times.
Bach for ever!

Bach is a challenge to the human reason

BACH = ART X SCIENCE
the Richter version also is worth a listen

@@geiryvindeskeland7208 I agree thoroughly. Richter is a great pianist in the romantic tradition, however in baroque he doesn't quite get it.
No interpretation comes even close to this one. Fabelhaft! Preston rules. Und auch natürlich Bach.
Can't decide if I prefer this one from Mr Preston or Lionel Rogg's interpretation... They're are both so good.
Obviously, Preston is better than Roog.

No doubt for me. Preston.

@@CDB8939 Thank you; I appreciate the information!
This is great but I also like Hurford's muscular version.

Thank you for mentionong Hurford. For me the key to BWV 582 is in the pedals. You've got to make it growl.
