- Hi de hi campers, join me for a cheeky mid-week micro adventure. I head out for a quick overnighter between shifts, cook up a feast in the crusader cup and warm myself beside the fire.
Thanks for bringing us along on this lovely sneaky mid-week camp. Love the honey stove. And that was a great cook out Gavin - all done on that little spirit burner (Des Catty) - well done. You squeezed in a lot of fun in a quick over-nighter 😊👍
Hi Giles, it always feels a bit odd getting out on a work night, but worth it all the same. I'll probably try it again when the days get a bit longer.
The Descattys burners are very good, they have a 50ml capacity so burn for a good 20mins or so and are probably more efficient on fuel than a typical Trangia.
The Honey Stove (with Hive expansion kit) is great and I really like that it's made here in ol'' Blighty. The only criticism I have of it is that it can be a bit fiddly to assemble, especially with cold fingers! If I'm honest the UCO firebowl is a little better because you can use larger fuel and spend less time feeding it.
Thanks as always for watching Giles 👍
I Say Gavin Old Chap! Splendid camp and getting out on a school night is just the ticket! Nice dinner and set up! Enjoy Suffolk!
Cheers Steve, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great camp Gavin 👍🏻 and supper looked really tasty too 🔥Look forward to catching up with you in Suffolk in a couple of weeks ⛺ All the best, Paul 🙏🏻

Al dente means when you bite it your teeth break 😁
Bolognaise looked the bizzo!
With you on the Ambrosia 😉👍🏼
Great camp night, Gavin. 👏🏼😉
Hi Tim, ha ha I didn't go that al dente! Thanks as always for watching sir 👍
Well at least you got the fire Going 😂
Nice one Gavin, used to enjoy getting out mid-week, always seemed to be more relaxed somehow.
Hopefully catch up with you in Suffolk. Atb.
Cheers Mike, the mid week camps will be even better when the days get longer.
Yep look forward to catching up in Suffolk 👍
Good to see you out again and thanks for the video. I have the dutch army hooped bivvy, it's a great piece of gear. The shelter you use never looks enough cover to me 😂 See you soon mate 👍
Cheers Lee, always good to get out. The poncho is a good option for when you want to go minimal. It's only 7ft long so is definitely compromised if the weather turns on you. But I think it works particularly well with the Bivvy Bag because you then get the added peace of mind. 👍
Good video by the way enjoyed it👍
Good camp grubb there mate
Nice one Barney. Looked a nice little adventure mate. Know what you mean about wandering the woods trying to find a good spot to set up ( I normally end up where I started from 😂) and know what you're saying about setting up the honey stove 😂. Cracking camp though mate and some nice scoff with pudding even . Take care bud 🏕 👌
Cheers Mark, yeah I always procrastinate over where to camp and then often how I want to pitch my tarp!!
The Honey stove is a pain to assemble, but I do enjoy using it. Thanks as always for watching 👍
@@barneysbimbles That's ok bud yep honey stove can be fiddly 😂 lovely once its sorted though 👍
nice mate see you up there
Cheers Tim, looking forward to it 👍
Nice one mate and totally with you on the ambrosia front
Cheers matey. It's gotta be Ambrosia every time! Thanks for checking out the video 👍
Great video mate had this in the background 👍
Cheers matey 👍
Great video Gavin, good to see you getting out on a school night lol. That's a nice area to camp round there especially if you can get off the eye line from the footpaths as you did. Nice meal in the crusader too and i totally agree about the rice pudding especially with a few raisins in it too!😋 Enjoy Cornwall and catch up soon I hope.👍
Well I never...raisins in rice pudding!! You're a maverick John! I'm going to have to give it a whirl. Thanks as always for watching, yes it's a nice spot and definitely one to re-visit later in the year as it'll be interesting to see how it is when the trees are in leaf. Catch up soon 👍
Looked a great little mid week camp did that dude.
Hope you're well.

Ha ha, many thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the video 👍
So what's for dinner
Why cook in a Crusader Cup? Nobody does that, by choice. There are lots of pots and pans to cook with, far more efficient than a Crusader Cup. Thanks for sharing.
Why cook in a Crusader Cup? Why not, and there's plenty of folk using them by choice. It's a great cooking pot, I've used mine to cook some lovely meals (if I say so myself!!). I have other pots and pans that I can, and do, use but the Crusader is right up there among my favourites.
I think it also makes for a very efficient option for a solo camper, it packs very efficiently, nesting with the awesome Osprey bottle and is nicely sized to make a decent meal for one. Risotto, chilli, Bolognese, curry, stews, rice pudding, porridge, nice cup of tea... it can do it all with aplomb.
Go on, give it a try, you won't regret it. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting 👍
Can't beet rice pudding
Hi m8 can the helicon ponchos protect you enough in a downpour in that configuration in a normal bivvybag tucked up inside? Also what’s the fuel efficiency and speed of burn like in thought small meths burners compared to a trangia burner thx
Hi Mick, yes the poncho is fine in a downpour so long as you pitch it correctly. With a lean-to configuration such as this, it's really important that the back end of the poncho/tarp is pitched into the wind. The Bivvy Bag then becomes your insurance policy should you get any rain blowing in through the open sides of the shelter, I find this is a really good combination. If however the wind changes direction during camp then you'll of course be a bit snookered!
The stove, in my opinion, is really efficient and probably slightly more so than a Trangia. I made several brews, cooked a decent Bolognese dinner from scratch as well as heating a pudding and a boil in the bag and burnt through approx 150ml of bio ethanol.
The most important thing about this burner though is that it's much safer than a Trangia. That is because it's spill proof and won't leak any fuel if you knock it over - the fibreglass filling absorbs the fuel. Thanks for checking out the video 👍
@@barneysbimbles thx pal good info👍
