faking a pregnancy on a private Snapchat story because you’re bloated and have a “food baby” is def the type of thing a 14-15 year old girl would post on her priv snap story as a joke to her friends. I think jojo has that mindset. Heard the phrase once “some people get stuck at the age they got famous” and I think jojo is an example of that and how getting famous and attention as a child def influences your personality and judgement.
Yeah. She first grew up in public eye in quite abusive environment of dance moms and then as a kid on the internet with her own channel already being super hated. I genuinely feel quite bad for her. People are way too harsh
I think if you start working a job at such a young age, you have neglected your responsibility to learn (about yourself, your situation, your family, your culture) in lieu of performing a role under capitalism. because she is in this circumstance she cannot spend her time learning whats right, learning what she should do- and you see naive ideas taken too far. but thats literally her identity. we need to collectively denounce this media practice, its obscene. its pure trauma, its terrible. its just not worth it, I swear
@@_e8a ?? i think you’re making a valid point, but the way you phrased it puts all the blame on her for growing up in the public eye even though she was literally a child and didn’t have the foresight or maturity to see how it would affect her
@@Bala_Niranna kind of yeah. I was looking through snap and she popped up right under the people I subscribed to watch, I didn't actively look for her but the cover pic for her stories was her "pregnant" belly
I think the problem is that she was pushed into behaving in a way to appeal a younger audience for a long time… even in her teenage and adult years. She didn’t have the normal coming of age phases. It must be very conflicting to find out who you want to be as an adult when you’ve always pretended to be a kid. And when that pretending led to making millions of dollars. I think she’s confused and trying to act older, but maintains the rooted childlike behavior that was taught to her for years, resulting in cringe.
I mean I wouldn't be surprised. There's a lot of information known these days about what stardom and being in the spotlight at a young age will do to a person. I can understand how, at the least, that could be affecting her and her choices. Not that it's any excuse, but it's understandable. This is pretty tame. It wasn't a good thing to try to pull off, but hopefully this is the worst it gets and she finds her footing without going down the rabbit hole we've seen other stars like her fall into.
@@nyxx7813you oughta win a medal for those mental gymnastics! all she said was she got the surgery. absolutely no one said anything about being rude towards other women who choose to become mothers but you.
I feel like everything can be seen as insensitive these days. Rlly faking a pregnancy is pretty harmless if it’s not done with the aim to hurt ppl, so I don’t see what the issue is. Seems like everyone has to walk on eggshells these days
as a kid, i absolutely hated on her. not because i had anything against her, but because EVERYONE WAS. it was this weird culture where anything that was perceived as overtly “girly” or colourful or just someone being themselves was just rejected by the internet. also, as a young girl, there was definitely a pick me element because she was easy to hate on for being “cringe”. that being said, she was also told how to be and how to be successful and famous from a really young age. as i got older, i could respect her for her dancing talent, her advertising and branding. BUT, this stuff is still weird and kind of unsettling and i get why people just want her to chill out because, i kind of do too. i just think she’s a good example of the internet going absolutely ham on someone, despite their age, just because they were a bit cringe.
Yea anything or anybody with a young female audience is just a fucking magnet for hate, its so weird. Like justin beiber, any boy band, and even just toys. I knew from a very young age that i was “supposed” to make fun of my sisters dolls
As someone in musical theatre, yes singing stamina is absolutely a thing. Singing while jogging, going up and down stairs, stuff like that is a great way to mimic dancing and singing for a full show 👍
I used to do this for chorus, but I was focused more on hitting the notes, singing in different registers to strengthen them, and work on songs I would preform. Maybe it’s me, correct me if it’s me being nit picky, but I think jojo is just working on belting notes, and projecting to the audience..
Being offended over someone faking a pregnancy has the vibe of being offended that someone made you jealous. There's nothing offensive about it. This isn't your best friend or sister pretending to be pregnant to your face with the understanding that you, specifically cannot get pregnant. It's a total random on the internet and I really do think those that find it that offensive need some deeper therapy on the matter.
Here is the correct take: You, I, or anyone else don't get to decide what offends people. So let's not try to hand wave/dismiss some people's legitimate reactions by calling it "jealousy." Was it offensive? Idk. Cringey? Weird? Gross? Tad insensitive? Sure. But it isn't a death sentence to do any of those things, either. So don't watch if it's something that's going to make you mad. Avoid "tea" channels that just do drama. Because it isn't insane that someone would find it in bad taste. And it isn't insane that every little scoop on TikTok will be converted to drama content. Just bottom of the barrel stuff. The internet, specifically the TikTok users need to take a break from the internet and stop white knighting into crusading on every. Single. Dumb. Little. Thing. Just about every one of these kind of videos is literally about everyone involved being terrible. Including the audiences. Especially the audiences, in most cases. They always seem to be the worst party involved 9/10 times. Because they can't just consume content without making it apart of their identity or social struggle. It's what's called a nuanced opinion. I'm assuming most people in here haven't hit their 20s, themselves, so here's some advice. Not every situation is black and white. It's usually somewhere in the grey.
honestly. like she was hated and mocked by the entire internet as a child, she grew up surrounded by people screaming at each other and her, and now when it seemed people finally had started to like her again the hivemind decides we don’t like her anymore for the crime of being cringe ig?
people are wayyy too harsh on young women that are in the public eye. yeah she's a bit cringe, but she's just a twenty year old tryna navigate life with thousands of eyes on her
Honestly, I almost think they're just like that to internet stars in general, being labeled as "cringe" by the masses is pretty much a death sentence in terms of social media! Like, remember Jellybean?
She reminds me a lot of me when I was 20 tbh. But, you know, privileged and out of touch. To me, she looks like a 20 year acting like a 20 year old. She's a little socially stunted; I was too at that age, but in my case it was because I'm autistic and not due to being raised weird for fame.
@@haleklind same here for me as a 27yo autistic. i grew up dancing so watched dance moms religiously lol, i'm really proud of her and i like her a lot (im also lgbt), but i don't enjoy her content so i dont watch it. it helps that i dont have snapchat
it is wild to me that people are lowkey bullying her because shes weird which is likely a result of the fact she was exploited for so long for our entertainment. There are so many genuinely awful famous people. I am cutting her a break. This is the most balanced take on her and I appreciate you for that. Being bullied by a middle aged woman for entertainment to then continue being bullied by not only middle aged women but also her peers is so sad.
I feel so terrible for her because she’s been so stunted. Honestly I hope she’s having a good time doing what she’s doing, wish she wasn’t still compelled to post everything. The adults who were around her as a child should be ashamed.
as someone who is infertile i genuinely cant find the problem with faking a pregnancy (besides it just being cringy) 😭 like can someone explain how faking a pregnancy is less triggering than just announcing youre pregnant. it would be insensitive if she was faking infertility, i get that. but pregnancy?
Right, I'm probably not going to be able to carry my own child due to epilepsy and my history with lyme and coinfections. My sister is pregnant and that was triggering but this is just cringey. My mind just goes back to a podcast that I saw her on where she said her mental maturity was in the late 20s and yet shes doing this. I know she has her character shes made with her name but I dont think anyone forced her to do this.
@Rachel C what's with teens/young adults in the industry claiming to be so many years more matured than their age? If anything, it seems like the industry stunts your maturity, evident by the amount of crazy shit these child stars get into.
I feel as though if I were told that I couldn’t get pregnant ever again, I would be heartbroken. Seeing someone throw around the claim of pregnancy and play into the excitement and connection that pregnancy brings is hurtful to people who can never have that. She sees it as a silly joke, something for views, but to others it’s a wish that will never be granted. I think they think that she should respect the importance of pregnancy and how it impacts people’s lives as well as how big of a thing it is for some people. I don’t necessarily agree but that might be where people are coming from.
Honestly, I just don’t care about Jojo Siwa and never have. She can do what she wants. Never understood why she gets so much hate when she’s basically the same as other “influencers”…
i think some of it is removing the sexy part (they’re all naked all the time on ig) and the flexing leaves u with what an “influencer” is and does, and it’s not great and people are uncomfortable
I disagree, I think she's hated for her differences. Too loud, too colorful, too girly, too boyish, too childlike, too gay. She's never been the kind of person who blended in.
I’m actually fascinated. When she was little, I felt that she was in a very exploitive industry. I agree that as an adult, her jarring personality is the inevitable response to a bizarre and isolating childhood, but I also had a very positive reaction to her coming out. She’s a role model of my grand daughters, and I want to raise open minded and accepting humans. My kids are both very open minded people. I’m very curious about what the fuss is about since I personally don’t use Snapchat at all. Don’t even see the point, tbh.
Singing while running on a treadmill is definitely a thing that I’ve heard a lot of music universities have their students do, but that might be on a professor by professor basis, and that is to say nothing about Jojo’s singing
I feel like she's still trying to figure out who she is after years of playing this character. And she's struggling doing that in front of the world, when it should be in private.
it SHOULD be private but the issue is if she doesnt keep a prominent social media presence, she could lose the attention and that can be really hard to gain back. she might not need the money now or in the near future but maybe one day she will so im sure shes trying to make as much money as she can while she still has eyes on her
@@womankisserjermaluvr It must be really hard for her to remove herself from media as she literally grew up being filmed etc and overly exposed to the public so I don’t think it’s only about money- it’s ingrained in her and that must be very hard to get away from
Something that irritates me about people is they assume your sexuality based on who you are dating. Jojo expressed her sexuality was “unlabeled”. which is valid. Just because she dated a girl doesn’t mean she’s only attracted to girls. She can date whoever she wants to, her sexual orientation is still valid and at the end of the day it’s her business. I’m tired of ppl assuming sexuality in couples. I recently had to explain to my mother just bc I dated a girl doesn’t mean I’m lesbian. I’m bisexual. Always was, (probably) always will be.
@@aidanmallon9879 gay has been recently used more often as a blanket term, interchangeable with queer. If we were only to use it by it’s generally accepted def it would just be used by gay men.
i did that all the time lol. I actually put a ball in my shirt to pretend to be pregnant and got in trouble cause the store thought i was strealing. i was 8.
It's concerning that people forget that Jojo was literally in the public eye since childhood, being sexualized, the object of hate and threats and carried the burden of securing a huge part of her family's financial income. On top, when she came out, it got even worse. People really act like what she went through doesn't have a huge effect on your psyche and development. And now she's dealing with it and trying to somehow find her way into adulthood, despite being conditioned to basically always be childlike for her audience. And with the whole "faking pregnancy thing", wasn't that more a response to people bodyshaming her for having a tummy and her reacting with the joke " yeah, must be pregnancy "? Feel like there's context missing here. And even then, while it is insensitive to people with fertility issues and she should be told why it wasn't great, it's not a reason to "cancel" her.
i mean, if people are tired of seeing her on their snapchat page, why do they click on the stories? 😭 and being a bit cringe isn't a crime. She grew up under the eyes of so many people, I just hope she's happy with her life right now.
8:30 As someone that wants children and can theoretically get pregnant, I think people need to stop using infertility issues to police other women. I could very well be infertile, which would devastate me, but I understand that my personal triggers are not everyone's problem. For example, having someone walk or stand close behind me is incredibly triggering for me, and I've had complete breakdowns from it happening. However, I never made it the problem of the person walking behind me because I realize they have no reason to be aware of how that might affect a random person like me. It's my job to work on it in therapy so that I can overcome that trigger in the future. Faking a pregnancy online is cringe, and I am curious why she did it, but as long as the people she knows IRL were in on the joke, it's not worthy of cancellation. It's weird but not amoral. The idea that a random woman not taking pregnancy "seriously enough" is insensitive to people struggling with infertility is some pro-life and misogynistic rhetoric. It's the exact argument people use against people that are happy about terminating their pregnancy. Not everyone that can get pregnant wants children, and it's absurd to expect everyone that can to treat pregnancy like it's this sacred, untouchable subject. Not everyone feels that way, and many of us are tired of having that rhetoric forced on us by others. JoJo isn't actually hurting anyone by doing this, and pretending she is is ridiculous. They are projecting their issues onto her instead of actually working on them. Your feelings are always valid, but they aren't always justified. Work on that shit in therapy. I just think clickbait is obnoxious.
I came here to confirm this as well. We had to do it for theater in high school because no one wants to hear people gasping while singing "Be Our Guest" and doing kicks.
Came here to say this! I think Beyonce was known to do something similar because she does a lot of choreography on stage on the floor and stuff so she needed good stamina to still belt
"yeah you know i date older because i'm really mature for my age, i'm more like 29 than 19" is exactly what some 19 year old who is getting groomed by an older person would say
I feel like pregnancy, death, marriage, breakups, being sick, ect. are all fine to joke about since everyone has connections to them in one way or another. She’s not punching down, she’s just joking about some universal thing.
I watched Dance Moms, and I think that gives a slightly different perspective on Jojo. For some deep dives I'd recommend the channel Dance Moms uncovered, she does a really good job looking at evidence from a lot of different sources. Anyway, Jojo's mom has said that as soon as she learned she was having a girl, she knew her daughter would wear bows, dance, and like it. She used Jojo's preschool money to pay for preformance arts classes. Oh, and Jojo's mom started bleaching her hair when she was six years old. Jojo started getting home schooled pretty young too, she was on Abby's Ultimate Dance Company when she was just eight years old (the youngest kid that season). Most of the other kids hated her, because she was a ball of energy who hadn't been around other kids in non-showbiz settings. Then she got on the main show, and got made fun of by adults, and then by some of the other kids in a meet and greet (The infamous "ireland video"). Through all of this her mom's been very much a stage mom, teaching Jojo to value fame above all else. So, all things considered I'm really not surprised Jojo's turned out like she has.
the larynx photos made me die laughing. i’m a singer myself, and we actually study vocal chord scans in my chorus class. for someone like jojo siwa it is actually really good to get larynx scans quite often. my chorus teacher even brings her own scans and we watch them to notice if there is anything wrong. you learn to have a good appreciation for a good larynx scan and the information it provides
It's not even that. Snapchat shoves her stories in your face when you open the app, so looking at them in some way is kind of unavoidable if you have it. Way fewer people would even know what's been going on with her and probably wouldn't care if it weren't for her Snapchat stories
@@maddief.8956 ok but like anyone who still uses snapchat has no right to complain, the app is basically just for pdf fiIes, "premium" content (if u know what I mean), and tabloid BS
@@strawberryfox8819 Oh absolutely, I was just trying to say that that's the reason so many people that dislike her have been seeing her content in the first place. They probably block after the fact, but initially it's kind of hard to ignore. Snapchat doesn't really use a strong algorithm to target audiences the same way other social media apps do.
actually a LOT of kpop idols used to run on the treadmill and sing their songs, to get singing stamina and stability so they can sing while dancing and out of breath
have people considered like, just not looking at her content if it makes them so angry? it's not like it's hard. I hadn't seen anything about her in years and would have continued not seeing it if it wasn't for this video. People online just don't know how to walk away from things that they really don't have to consume lol
Snapchat almost forces the content upon you, I’m a 25 year old male who basically only watches weed influencers and sports. So you would think that some little girl would be the LAST thing snapchat would recommend to me. But when I scroll over. One of the first thing I see is “jojo siwa” with a giant yellow star and a clickbait title along with other people IVE NEVER HEARD OF. Only reason I know the jojo girl is cause my niece is in dance and has been obsessed with her for years. I’ve never once looked up a single thing about her, but yet it’s still the number 1 thing being suggested to me on my Snapchat
@@desmayrie I don’t even click on the suggested stories they give on my discover page so I have no need to block, I’m just saying they’re literally shoving it in everyone’s face. It’s not just “how about you don’t look at it” when they’re FORCING IT ONTO YOUR SOCIAL PLATFORMS.
i really appreciated her when she came out because i really loved her when i was little and im a lesbian. now that shes older, i feel like she is trying to hold on to her relatability with little kids but also trying to appeal to adults which is not gonna work in the long-run
I'm honestly surprised that you didn't cover the "I'm being used for clout" video here. By far the most interesting thing about Jojo that I've heard about recently is the whole dating drama thing, the cruise ship with the ex, etc. Maybe I'm just on lesbian TikTok but I was nothing if not entertained by that entire saga lol
I feel a lot of empathy towards Jojo. I also had to grow up very quickly when I was younger, I then also missed out on the majority of the "highschool experience", and as a result of all that I ended up regressing a lot. Now, rather than acting my age (or 29 like jojo said) I feel more like a 14-16 year old. And I think the same has happened for Jojo. Plus, i have adhd and asd, and i would hazard a guess that jojo is also not neurotypical. I have struggled so much with this, and I cannot imagine how much harder it would be to deal with while also being extremely public. Im not saying that people cant find her cringey, or that she is excused from any ownership of her actions, but I do feel for her.
To me the pregnancy thing wasn’t distasteful to those with fertility struggles, but to people with bellies. Why does our society react in disgust at the sight of round tummies any time there isn’t a baby inside of it? She’s making fun of the way her body looks and playing into our society’s unspoken belief that “it’s only okay to look fat if you’re pregnant.”
i can answer your question. because visceral fat (fat around your organs) is the unhealthiest type to have in excess, and if you have enough to have a noticeable gut that’s a glaring health problem. an excess of sub-q fat on the stomach is also a huge problem - if a woman has enough of it to make her stomach stick out a lot, it’s a sign of either elevated cortisol or elevated androgens, when a man does it’s a telltale sign he’s obese. people tend to dislike traits that are symptoms of bad health (huge stomach unless it’s pregnant, acne and other skin disorders, hirsutism and head hair loss in women, obesity or emaciation etc) subconsciously bc it makes sense evolutionarily. hope that helps
It's sad to me that this is all happening. She's my age. And while I'm moving between college dorms and getting to find myself on my own time table, she's being continued to be pushed into the lime light, and encouraged to take deals with apps like snapchat... which so many people act like is a dream, but it's just sad to watch. She didn't get the same childhood as people our age and she never got to find who she is without someone behind the camera coaching her, or without the pressure of this or that. I think she should take a break, especially if she's had a breakdown about feeling used, and invest in who she wants to be outside of the camera. Not because I think she's cringy, but because she deserves time to heal without everyone judging everything she does. When you called out how pregnancy faking is a family vlog trend, it clicked. She's literally trying to act like the adults that get the views she wants. That's all she's ever been taught to want. To succeed at the fame game. It's honestly disconcerting how many feed into it by tearing into her.
My 28 year old cousin literally always hates on her. I am literally 24 and never felt the urge to hate on a teenage kid. It's weird af and i dont understand. I feel so bad for JoJo and how she had to grow up. She has clearly been forcefully stunted to grow. She had to be mature for dance moms but act as a child once she started getting older for her kid audience. She got bullied by grown ass people online for her looks and voice. And now she came out and was finally able to date someone and the internet sort of loved her as a gay icon but then some people hated her for being a bad influence for liking girls. This girl has been through so much. I just want her to be happy and finally act like a teenager, which she never got to be.
with the treadmill singing stuff, its actually super common!! as someone in theater, advice i get told a lot is too exercise while singing so i can work on breath support!! this makes it a lot easier to sing and dance on stage at the same time :D (i dont mean this in a mean way at all, just wanted to clarify^^)
I always sing and dance! It’s the only kind of exercise I can actually get lost in because I’m so insistent on nailing the notes yet still too restless to sit still 😂
Nick I’ve noticed that all of your TikTok drama videos are focused on women. I don’t think it’s your fault but I think it’s an interesting thing how different conversations are about women versus men messing up on the internet. Once you see it you can’t unsee it
there is so much other cringe/bad posting out there and jojo siwa is who we're focusing on? I think your point is a big part of how the algorithm was designed to boost topics and 'well meaning' videos like this are what we get
I think it has something to do with him not covering heavy topics and his content being a bit light-hearted? I mean whenever there's drama involving male influencers, it's usually that they are exposed being criminals, s*xual predators, p*dos, ab*sers etc. In the case of women, they just get hated on for anything (unimportant reasons)😭 I dont think Nick joins the hate bandwagon tho? He just brings attention to the topic and gives out his opinion so is there a problem with that?
Thank you for doing these videos Nick! It genuinely makes me feel more connected to what’s going on in general pop/celebrity culture for ppl younger than me. I don’t want to spend hours on tik tok or follow cringe 20 year olds so I appreciate the recaps! Very entertaining and informative, and I’m not at all being sarcastic if it comes off that way.
I really don't know if she is baiting pregnancy she always makes jokes about food babies after she eats. It's something she jokes about on snapchat a lot and with that context it makes me think that she is not intentionally faking them people are just missing information
i watched one of her snapchat stories after i first heard about this “drama” (i didn’t seek it out but i was curious when she popped up on my snapchat doom scroll) and it felt immediately obvious it was a consistent joke she made?? like it seemed like a coping thing. not my style of comedy, but i’m just not her target audience 🤷🏻
Seriously. It really makes the relationship concepts feel more balanced and less objectifying in so little words with so little effort. People often forget how often little shifts in phrasing like that can be really important in affecting perspective.
I’m sorry, but the pregnancy situation is ridiculous. Firstly, Tana pls stfu with the “I would be cancelled if I did that” you’ve done FAR worse and still have a huge platform. Secondly, to those who are mad at Jojo: would you still be mad if people weren’t telling you that you should be mad? Would you still be mad if people weren’t saying this was cancellable? Because I don’t think a lot of you would. I think everyone is just jumping on the hate train. And I’m saying all this as someone who doesn’t even like Jojo Siwa. I think it’s weird that she still associates with/supports Abby Lee Miller after it was revealed that she was abusive and racist.
I had no idea about this situation until this video and yes, I’m mad about it. Infertility affects 1 in 6 people and miscarriages happen to 1 in 8. I have multiple friends who have miscarried or had to spend thousands to conceive via IVF. They’ve had family and friends say really insensitive things to them repeatedly after losing babies. So it is incredibly insensitive to joke about being pregnant and then go “oops! Actually, I’m not and lied about it” like it’s some easy thing that can happen to everyone and not something that can be incredibly challenging and harmful.
@@whitneymouse her having fun with her body (pretending to be pregnant) isn’t some insensitive thing she’s specifically saying to someone after a miscarriage or to someone who has infertility issues. while she has such a large reach that her content will probably reach someone in these situations, it’s very much different than an apathetic coworker or family member saying insensitive things or making untimely pregnancy announcements (examples i’m listing from the experiences of people in my life rather than from your comment). don’t take your anger for those people out on her. she’s still a very young person and has not had a lot of experiences due to her upbringing as a celebrity. i’d like to make another point, which is that regardless of if it’s offensive (which we can disagree on), is the reaction proportional to the offense she has caused? i sincerely doubt it
I don't care one way or the other about her. And I don't think she should be cancelled or nothing for the pregnancy thing. It just feels insulting. I've been pregnant and given birth. Its a super overwhelming period of time both mentally and physically (and for some people its a waking nightmare) and for all of that to be ignored because "Omg I ate so much look im pregnant!" By an adult feels insulting. Plus the buying of baby clothes and stuff. Thats a lot of emotions you are just playing around with for fun. So no, not cancellable but like... rude? It feels similar to when people mock ADHD with the "LOOK SQUIRREL!" thing (I have ADHD) and while, yeah, its pretty minor and in the grand scheme of things not really a big deal but still really rude and disrespectful of the struggles people with ADHD have with trying to do daily tasks.
@@whitneymouse she never claimed she was pregnant, people started rumors about her and she went along with it as a joke. if your old enough to have kids and find out your infertile, why are you watching jojo siwa?
I'm a 26 year old woman - I don't want kids. I have family who wants kids and has struggled to get pregnant. I was once envisioning a future for myself involving kids, and then when I was 13 I was told I cannot get pregnant, or else because of my disability, I would die. I think that the faking a pregnancy because you are bloated is a thing a lot of YOUNG teens would do on their private story or text messages, the fact that she did that publicly over multiple days is very messed up.
i watched that whole podcast episode with ashley gavin where she talked about feeling older, and she followed it up stating she feels older and younger than her peers at the same time. which makes a lot of sense as they talked about it more, she had to be an “adult”, essentially having responsibilities of an adult since she was little while also missing out on a lot of the milestones that teens usually get to go through. so she’s playing catch up while also feeling older in some ways. i have a lot of empathy for her and that upbringing though i don’t follow her content.
When are people going to leave this girl alone 😂, out of all the public figures and TH-camrs out there living their lives who have legitimately hurt people, her offense is so insanely laughable. Genuinely believe people just hate her to hate her
She's just cringe which is unfortunalty the worst thing you be on the internet. Racist? Homophobic? Literal criminal? that's fine as long as you're not 'cringe'.
People always start off fawning over child celebrities and then tossing them in the trash when they're older.. It's creepy af tbh how people obsess over literal children and then go 'you're not cute anymore! 😩😡' when they start maturing or going through puberty!
I'm sorry but nothing makes less sense than people who can't conceive or have had miscarriages policing the bodies and actions of women that can give birth, a pregnancy joke is not indirectly or directly affecting someones past pregnancy or not being able to conceive. The whole "don't make jokes about being pregnant because some people can't" is very much in line with people that have pro-life values, people feel so entitled to how other women view pregnancy, especially if they don't want to be a mother they see it as it not being fair they can't live vicariously through someone else, or their envy turns into a sense of entitlement and wanting control over other women. People act like she's flexing her ability to conceive and she needs to be more sensitive about it, it's so so weird and doesn't wholey represent women that are infertile or have miscarried.
Very true, it would be a WHOLE other story if she was tagging an influencer who was sharing their miscarriage or infertility story time or something, in which case, idek what to say, only a heinous and hideous person would do that sort of thing. Jojo just reacted to someone else starting pregnancy rumours, she didn't even bring up the pregnancy until other people started speculating about *her*.
yeah i wouldn't exactly call it insensitive or disrespectful it's just a really fuckin weird thing to do, and as some people have said a really lame and sorta shamefully desperate way to get back into the spotlight
I’ve lost a baby in the past but idgaf if people make jokes about it or whatever because that has nothing to do with me personally. I do understand certain topics being touchy because of their experiences but it’s not anyone else’s responsibility to adjust their lives to your comfort. It’s your very personal responsibility to learn to process your own emotions and be aware of your reactions to things. My 2 cents
So, who exactly is supposed to be her audience now? She makes money doing all these Snapchat things all day long, and who is supposed to care or be amused by it? Is she supposed to be like a "bubble-gum" idol for pre-teens, so she has to act ridiculous? I can't feel sorry for her, even though she seems trapped in some kind of show-biz hell-zone.
Her singing was healthy and I sing while running, it works. Also she is, for the first time in over a decade, able to make her own decisions ON her own.
Im literally shocked when i hear shes the same age as me, every single time. Thinking about someone my age acting the way she did in last 5 years is insane. I dont know if its where i grew up but from the age of 11 and 12 everyone is desperately trying to grow up and appear older and cooler, forcing a young teen to remain very childish is abuse, and probably so extremely confusing. I was always so sad for her, not that she wasnt more grown up but because i know she probably wanted to be and wasnt allowed to. Now that ive matured a couple more years i love the colorful "childlike" vibes and wish kids weren't pressured to grow up especially now.
I have severe (stage 3) endometriosis causing severe infertility and before I knew I had an abortion because it wouldve killed me to try to carry to term. (I really want kids when i can afford them and so this was v traumatizing) I don't think it's insensitive or rude. It's childish sure but it didn't trigger any bad feelings from me. What did make me mad is it's women who don't have fertility issues saying we'll be hurt and not us most the time.
Vocal training on a treadmill is an actual thing mostly used for Koop idols to get stable when singing and dancing on stage. However they usually have professional trainers that progressively work with them so they don’t end up sounding like they’re dying while singing 😭
Im pretty sure people spread the pregnancy rumours and she reacted by making jokes and clickbait. Personally if someone came up to me and went "how far along are you?" And i wasnt pregnant i would feel a little embarassed and insecure and i know a lot of women feel that way. Then imagine the entire internet is spreading rumours and talking about how youre pregnant when youre not. THAT is insensitive
I think she’s just a person living they’re life. Everyone just needs to leave her alone if they don’t like her, and show her love if they do. I hate when ppl throw hate for no reason.
have 2 say i dont think 'singing bad' is cringe. like who cares if someones just havin a good time and they sound funny why do people always gotta worry about being their best polished performing self at every moment 🤔 i think more people should be apologetically 'bad' or even simply 'subpar' lol. whether or not it's a good exercise [i dont know myself] i think it's humanizing to hear people when theyre not at their best and are just doing a rough warm up or whatever.
thank you, that was probably the weirdest part of this video for me. like let people who cant sing well enjoy themselves go be the art police somewhere else
Idk my hearing is good maybe that's why I don't like hearing it. It's loud and it hurts my ears, I wouldn't want someone screaming notes at me in tune either tho. I just won't watch but I understand why someone would describe it as cringe
@@Hip.Username i understand that as someone who also has a sound sensitivity issue! but i'm not saying you have to ENJOY someone singing loud or off key, i just think it's kinda in bad taste how quick people in general are to jump to insulting/shaming a person for doing something innocent and fun and 'imperfect', yknow?
@@HamiGirl1 oh ok I gotcha. Yeah I think Jojo doesn't deserve the hate she gets over this kind of stuff. I think she had some controversy over exes or something? But aside from that she's always gotten treated like it was wrong for her to exist. I think she turned out well for someone with that kind of hate and I respect it
I thought being mad about pregnancy jokes was related to April fools day, because a lot of guys were getting baited into reaction videos just to see how they would react and some men were totally devistated when they found out that their partner wasn't pregnant. After that happened SEVERAL times lol, eventually a whole movement thing came up about "don't make April fools jokes about being pregnant!! It's trashy!!" So I guess it rolled from there to just don't do it at all? But what else are you gonna say when you get really bloated, or full from eating? "Welp, guess I gotta shit!!" It's not as funny as saying "I think it's a boy!!" I guess guys can still do it, but still lol, everyone should be able to make that joke after a 5 pound burrito!!
thank you! i can’t believe people actually think it’s offensive. anytime people are arguing about insensitive jokes, i’m ALWAYS on the side of ”if it’s insensitive, don’t say it” but this is too far. today was the first day i’ve ever called someone sensitive, and it’s these people in these comments
if she just made some offhand comment about how she was pregnant because "lol I'm having a food baby" then no one would've cared. it's the fact she dragged it on for so long, pretending to buy baby clothes and having people take photos with her as if she was expecting. it felt more like a publicity stunt than a joke tbh
The reason why I don't like jojo has mostly to do with the fact that she's friends with Shane, which is arguably more disgusting on Shane's side, but still
i came across one of her exes vids on tiktok saying she keeps talking about their past relationship resulting in people going after said ex and their current partner, even tho it was all over with months ago. thats probably the worst ive seen of her though, everything else it just a bit weird and i honestly kinda fear for her when she talks about feeling mentally mature because as you mentioned shes really not, her experiences have had the opposite effect if anything, and if shes specifically aiming to date older women because of that it could end in an unhealthy relationship so easy. "youre so mature for your age" is one of the biggest red flags in a potential relationship and she wouldnt notice it because she thinks its true.
People can be offended all they want, that’s how they personally feel and they’re absolutely allowed to feel however they want. Cancelling her over an I guess elaborate and sorta mean joke isn’t something she deserves.
i’m afab and i probably could never have kids but i really don’t think it’s all that insensitive. it’s not like funny or interesting either, and it is super hard to go through infertility and miscarriage, but physically having kids isn’t the only way to have kids. we culturally deify pregnancy in a really weird way. we can recognize that pregnancy is so amazing and cool and important and something a lot of people want to experience while also acknowledging it’s just a part of being human and not the be all and end all of having a family. that ended up being much longer than i meant it to but i guess i had thoughts
The thing that got me on her snap stories was the day her dog died. Literally minutes on end of her saying the same thing over and over smiling while crying at different times of day. It was so dystopian. Girly just take a day off. You don’t need to Snapchat every second of your day when a pet you love passes. I get people grieve differently but the fact that she posted so much that day felt weird…
I can see how that would be really weird but I wonder if she was contractually obligated to do that since Snapchat pays her to post a certain number of times each day? Like maybe there wasn’t really the option to take the day off
@@alittlefrog2395 I'd be like "I don't care how much you pay me, let me have time to grieve." My dog is so much more important than anything else in the world, he's been my best friend for years, gotten me through some of my hardest moments and if someone would expect me to just be ok with him being gone... I just couldn't And it's beyond cruel that they didn't give her any time. Or might not have. That must have been devastating
12:35 i know that a lot of theatre singers are supposed to voice train to help on stage, but obviously it’s so important to incorporate making sure you get intonation, volume, and key correct
Honestly idgaf about any of the other drama, but I’m surprised no one mentioned how Jojo “””ALLEGEDLY“”” kicked a girl out of her girl group, XOMGPOP, for being disabled.
thanks for uploading this Nick, really looking forward to learning who JoJo Siwa actually is, I definitely recognize the name. can't wait to see how this turns out.
considering there are people on the internet who openly advocate for human trafficking in their "financial self-development podcast" or people who brag about r@p!ng their own mother, learning about Jojo Siwa is not the worst online burden you can bare
@@ameliag.9940 it’s a joke you humorless dunce. Never said it was the “worst online burden I can bear” (not bare). Obviously JoJo doesn’t even come close to some of the stuff Tate or CWC or Cyraxx or other lolcows have done. You’re not cooler than everyone just because you went on KiwiFarms once.
the way the all assumed she was a lesbian because she dated a girl, even when she said she was unlabeled, and they forgot that lesbians can get pregnant too
This keeps happening. Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber all went through this. When we will figure out this pattern of making children famous is really harmful to them?
honestly my only problem is the way she treats/treated her exes. but its such a she said/he said (she said/she said??) problem that idk the whole situation. i wont shit on her, idk her business + private life, but I do dislike the way some people have attacked her exes for describing their experience
stamina training like that is a thing, lots of artists do it to prepare for tour! gotta be able to sing while doing something physically demanding. no comment on her singing technique though that's a different story.
One of my friends went to the extreme of faking a pregnancy in high school. She announced she was pregnant before summer ended.. and came back with an actual baby bump prop. It was wild.
I wouldnt say it makes her a bad person, or even that it was a bad thing that she did. But.. it definitely shows how young she is. Ya know? She will probably come to regret it after she matures a little more.
12:50 Actually, singing while running on the treadmill is not an usual thing for singers, at least here in Europe. I heard multiple European "pop divas" talk about doing this so they can still sound good while also doing their choreography on stage. Not sure how good or useful it is, but it's definitely a thing.
I think what surprises me the most, as someone from outside the USA, is that Snapchat is still used up there? I'm truly surprised But about the video.... I feel like she just doesn't know how to transition from her character, who is very child-like, to her adult persona. She just seem very lost trying to adjust in between things.
12:55 as far as I know many kpop idols do some stuff similar to this. A group called Oneus actually said they practiced singing on treadmill. TXT actually posted a video while singing on treadmills. So this is not bizarre but you're right about the key and breath control stuff.
faking a pregnancy on a private Snapchat story because you’re bloated and have a “food baby” is def the type of thing a 14-15 year old girl would post on her priv snap story as a joke to her friends.
People are way too harsh
that’s a bojack horseman quote isn’t it
I think if you start working a job at such a young age, you have neglected your responsibility to learn (about yourself, your situation, your family, your culture) in lieu of performing a role under capitalism. because she is in this circumstance she cannot spend her time learning whats right, learning what she should do- and you see naive ideas taken too far. but thats literally her identity. we need to collectively denounce this media practice, its obscene. its pure trauma, its terrible. its just not worth it, I swear

I think she’s confused and trying to act older, but maintains the rooted childlike behavior that was taught to her for years, resulting in cringe.

as a kid, i absolutely hated on her. not because i had anything against her, but because EVERYONE WAS. it was this weird culture where anything that was perceived as overtly “girly” or colourful or just someone being themselves was just rejected by the internet. also, as a young girl, there was definitely a pick me element because she was easy to hate on for being “cringe”. that being said, she was also told how to be and how to be successful and famous from a really young age. as i got older, i could respect her for her dancing talent, her advertising and branding. BUT, this stuff is still weird and kind of unsettling and i get why people just want her to chill out because, i kind of do too. i just think she’s a good example of the internet going absolutely ham on someone, despite their age, just because they were a bit cringe.
I think she just needs help and a change of enviroment and to get off of the internet for a while to figure things out and live for herself
Yea anything or anybody with a young female audience is just a fucking magnet for hate, its so weird. Like justin beiber, any boy band, and even just toys. I knew from a very young age that i was “supposed” to make fun of my sisters dolls

Yesssss I know of kpop idols who sing while jogginh for this exact reason, thanks for sharing!
Yesss this!
I used to do this for chorus, but I was focused more on hitting the notes, singing in different registers to strengthen them, and work on songs I would preform. Maybe it’s me, correct me if it’s me being nit picky, but I think jojo is just working on belting notes, and projecting to the audience..
But are you suposed to sing well while doing this? Because like... if she's gonna sing while dancing, we all know how that would sound 💀
Agreed
Here is the correct take:
You, I, or anyone else don't get to decide what offends people. So let's not try to hand wave/dismiss some people's legitimate reactions by calling it "jealousy."
Was it offensive? Idk. Cringey? Weird?
It's usually somewhere in the grey.

as someone who is infertile i genuinely cant find the problem with faking a pregnancy (besides it just being cringy) 😭 like can someone explain how faking a pregnancy is less triggering than just announcing youre pregnant. it would be insensitive if she was faking infertility, i get that. but pregnancy?
Right, I'm probably not going to be able to carry my own child due to epilepsy and my history with lyme and coinfections. My sister is pregnant and that was triggering but this is just cringey. My mind just goes back to a podcast that I saw her on where she said her mental maturity was in the late 20s and yet shes doing this. WHAT I AM OFFENDED BY.. did you see how she just threw those dumbbells!? wtf
I get that
@Rachel C what's with teens/young adults in the industry claiming to be so many years more matured than their age?

Singing while running on a treadmill is definitely a thing that I’ve heard a lot of music universities have their students do, but that might be on a professor by professor basis, and that is to say nothing about Jojo’s singing
but are you supposed to like belt or just sing normally?? i’ve always been curious about that!

and being a bit cringe isn't a crime.

It’s like the clinical version of theatre kid energy
Wow that’s so sad and horrible for her
the larynx photos made me die laughing. i’m a singer myself, and we actually study vocal chord scans in my chorus class. for someone like jojo siwa it is actually really good to get larynx scans quite often. my chorus teacher even brings her own scans and we watch them to notice if there is anything wrong. you learn to have a good appreciation for a good larynx scan and the information it provides
This is really cool
If people think she's posting too much, they can just unfollow her. Nobody is forcing them. Gosh
It's not even that. Snapchat shoves her stories in your face when you open the app, so looking at them in some way is kind of unavoidable if you have it. Way fewer people would even know what's been going on with her and probably wouldn't care if it weren't for her Snapchat stories

She did it in response to people body shaming her for weight gain. Huge bit of context Nick is missing from this video.
i can answer your question. because visceral fat (fat around your organs) is the unhealthiest type to have in excess, and if you have enough to have a noticeable gut that’s a glaring health problem. an excess of sub-q fat on the stomach is also a huge problem - if a woman has enough of it to make her stomach stick out a lot, it’s a sign of either elevated cortisol or elevated androgens, when a man does it’s a telltale sign he’s obese. people tend to dislike traits that are symptoms of bad health (huge stomach unless it’s pregnant, acne and other skin disorders, hirsutism and head hair loss in women, obesity or emaciation etc) subconsciously bc it makes sense evolutionarily. hope that helps

This 👆
It started as a joke… she said multiple times that it was a “food baby”
Ooooh. So she never faked anything…
Yeah I think it was more pretending and goofing and not “faking”
yeah people are hella soft
If she just went on a bizarre adventure no one would be having any issues.
I just want her to be happy and finally act like a teenager, which she never got to be.
with the treadmill singing stuff, its actually super common!! as someone in theater, advice i get told a lot is too exercise while singing so i can work on breath support!! this makes it a lot easier to sing and dance on stage at the same time :D
(i dont mean this in a mean way at all, just wanted to clarify^^)
Exactly! Singing stamina training is 100% a thing
I always sing and dance! It’s the only kind of exercise I can actually get lost in because I’m so insistent on nailing the notes yet still too restless to sit still 😂
Correct but she wasn’t doing it properly at all 😂
Honestly people need to calm the fuck down. The fact that something made you upset doesn't mean it's evil.
Nick I’ve noticed that all of your TikTok drama videos are focused on women. I don’t think it’s your fault but I think it’s an interesting thing how different conversations are about women versus men messing up on the internet. Once you see it you can’t unsee it
Very true!!! Women being cringe very often leads to muuuch worse outcomes too like doxxing in particular and just extreme harassment in general 😔
there is so much other cringe/bad posting out there and jojo siwa is who we're focusing on? I think your point is a big part of how the algorithm was designed to boost topics and 'well meaning' videos like this are what we get
I think it has something to do with him not covering heavy topics and his content being a bit light-hearted? I mean whenever there's drama involving male influencers, it's usually that they are exposed being criminals, s*xual predators, p*dos, ab*sers etc. In the case of women, they just get hated on for anything (unimportant reasons)😭
I dont think Nick joins the hate bandwagon tho? He just brings attention to the topic and gives out his opinion so is there a problem with that?
it's totally unintentional because the world naturally likes to make drama about women. so any relevant 'tea' is more likely to be about them :///
@andr oh I see, I misunderstood if OP was questioning Nick as to why he only covers drama involving women. Sorry my bad if I sounded rude

Very entertaining and informative, and I’m not at all being sarcastic if it comes off that way.
I really don't know if she is baiting pregnancy she always makes jokes about food babies after she eats. It's something she jokes about on snapchat a lot and with that context it makes me think that she is not intentionally faking them people are just missing information
she’s a workout addict so she clearly eats a ton at once, gets bloated, takes pics, works out after digesting, rinse repeat
Yeah, I kinda got a feeling that this was just one of those times where the internet cherrypicks a few events to cancel a person because they're bored
i watched one of her snapchat stories after i first heard about this “drama” (i didn’t seek it out but i was curious when she popped up on my snapchat doom scroll) and it felt immediately obvious it was a consistent joke she made?? like it seemed like a coping thing. not my style of comedy, but i’m just not her target audience 🤷🏻
I love how Nick said "get pregnant WITH* somebody" and not, ' get somebody pregnant'.
DUUDE THIS.
Genuinely believe people just hate her to hate her
I agree
this
Like there's so many others that are actually problematic like grow up and use your tiny ass brain for once
She's just cringe which is unfortunalty the worst thing you be on the internet. Racist? Homophobic? Literal criminal? that's fine as long as you're not 'cringe'.
I don’t hate her just to hate her, I dislike her for what she did to her exes
This is so well put.
I agree 100%. I also felt kind of off about how mad people were she faked a pregnancy and I couldn't quite put a finger on why.
yeah i wouldn't exactly call it insensitive or disrespectful it's just a really fuckin weird thing to do, and as some people have said a really lame and sorta shamefully desperate way to get back into the spotlight
I can't feel sorry for her, even though she seems trapped in some kind of show-biz hell-zone.
bro ppl online have the worst takes how do u treat ppl who say racist shit the same way as someone who just fakes a pregnancy on snapchat…

I hate when ppl throw hate for no reason.
is it no reason when she brings kids around james charles ?

I thought being mad about pregnancy jokes was related to April fools day, because a lot of guys were getting baited into reaction videos just to see how they would react and some men were totally devistated when they found out that their partner wasn't pregnant. I think the problem is she took to far, it wasn't a joke anymore but kinda a lie.
if she just made some offhand comment about how she was pregnant because "lol I'm having a food baby" then no one would've cared. it's the fact she dragged it on for so long, pretending to buy baby clothes and having people take photos with her as if she was expecting. it felt more like a publicity stunt than a joke tbh

I heard multiple European "pop divas" talk about doing this so they can still sound good while also doing their choreography on stage. Not sure how good or useful it is, but it's definitely a thing.
I think what surprises me the most, as someone from outside the USA, is that Snapchat is still used up there? I'm truly surprised
But about the video....
So this is not bizarre but you're right about the key and breath control stuff.
nick saying growed up instead of grown up was so unintentionally adorable omg
