  • Tools and Tips for one person removing a carpet while working around furniture and a special feline friend. The carpet, under padding, tack strips and staples all go revealing a less than perfect hardwood floor. If I can do it, you can do it too! I do my best work in bare feet and flip flops, don't judge, especially on hot summer days! Safety first, though. Do as I say, not as I do, as they say. Do wear protective clothing, goggles, dust masks and gloves when doing DIY home improvements. In part 2, I'll show you how to clean up the floor and make it look pretty until you are able to get it refinished.

Looking for tips and I've seen a lot of videos. This is one of the best because it shows the reality of it: it's messy and takes effort (most other videos make it look too easy). Also, because your cat is priceless! Isn't it wonderful how they love to "help"?

They are great helpers! 😸 She was the best kitty. She recently passed. I cherish the videos I have of her.

You are my hero girl. I have to do everything myself too. Don't have any where to move my furniture either plus I have a bad back. Thank you, I'm tearing out my funky carpet now. Salute to you!

You did great! I do everything in the wee hours of the night and I can’t wait to surprise my wife! We have talked about taking up the carpet in our art studio for years and you just gave me the juice!!

This video was so helpful Jill! I'm getting new flooring and was seriously, seriously stressed because I thought it couldn't be done. Not with furniture in the room as well as tearing out the old carpet. Thank you so much for sharing how you did it. :)

Looks great! Thanks for sharing :) I wish we had wood under our nasty carpet! Now I have to figure out how to remove and add new wood type flooring with furniture in the way.

Good job! Thanks for showing how it's done with all the handy tips for safely removing and disposing of the tacks and minimising dust as you go. I want to do this. My bed is very heavy timber though so I might need a bit of extra muscle to lift it. Cheers!

This was so great. I'm going to do it. I have lots of heavy furniture to move myself but I'm up to the task. Thanks Jill!! Also, I might try murphy soap instead of the daunting task of refinishing the floor. I don't care about holes and cracks in my floor.

I speak from bitter experience...On a long, hot summer evening I was cooking barefoot, and managed to drop something into a pan of hot oil. It splashed onto my foot [only about a teaspoonful, the size of a stamp.] I home-treated it, a bad idea...at the hospital they said it was a third degree burn! Because of the position of the burn/scald, it was very painful, it took ages to heal, and I now have a scar on my foot. If you look up other DIY-ers, they wear some kind of light footwear, because a nail/tack/pin embedded in your foot is also pretty painful. Just sayin'...! :-)
