I am technically a greybeard because I played right after the game fully launched, before deep dives were a thing, awhile before. But I didn't play consistently so I'm still only level 31 lmao
If I remember correctly, Elite Deep Dives start out at a relaxing Hazard 4 difficulty, then ramps up to slightly ABOVE Hazard 5 (the hardest base-game difficulty) by the end. This is why most adept players can usually beat stage 1, but then get their beards handed to them on stage 2 and 3.
Also, it's advisable to look up details on the stages of the EDD before going in. For example, an EDD that has a shield disruption modifier will probably warrant a change in build, Cryo Cannon is pretty useless when there's a Caretaker stage, etc.

Stones are small pieces of rock, often made of one mineral (think gemstones for example), or are shaped for a purpose (like construction, or for use as weaponry or jewelry). Dwarf version: Dig through Rock, Dig *for* Stones!

I think engineer has that issue where certain specific builds make him extremely powerful, but most other builds end up being only mediocre. Although if you are looking for a unique primary I think his third one, the Lok-1 Smart Rifle has got you covered, at least I personally find it really fun to use. Finally, I'm always suprised that no one ever talks about the fact that deep dives replace the optional side objective with a mandatory second main objective.
I tried the Lok-1 but honestly I came back to the base shotty, especially since i have the magnetic overclock for it, which makes its spread tighter and buffs its damage the shotty now can actually hit stuff at medium range but honestly the freaking Shard Difractor is the true new primary for me DEATH LASER GO BOINGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

I love that thing, melts hordes and single targets like its nothing and has some crazy overclocks from what i remember (one LITERALLY makes it an area denial tool by having it MELT ROCK TO GLOWING MAGMA!) also can be build to have synergy with the electro machine pistol one can use, which was genereally considered to be engies weakest primary.

Recently got the game, played the game, liked the game, watched a video about the game, dreamt of the game, and now I’m watching this instantly after waking up before playing the game. Needless to say it’s a good game.
Driller main here, with some fun facts about the cryo cannon. Frozen enemies lose their armor and take extra damage, but take double damage from melee. Driller's drills and yeet axes deal melee damage, and benefit from melee synergies like vampire. If you aren't souping entire families of glyphuds with your drills, your Warcrime Coefficient simply ain't high enough. Melting things with the goop gun is also acceptable.
Here's the difficulty for each stage from the elite deep dive: Stage 1- haz 4.5 Stage 2- haz 5 Stage 3- haz 5.5 And the difficulty also scales for every player in the group so a 4 player elite deep dive is literally the hardest drg can be without mods
Deep Dives are actually easier with two people: The amount of bugs is determined by the player count, so with two players, less bugs spawn and each player gets to double dip on every resupply. That way you dont have to conserve ammo as much.
There is no supply that can meet my demand for DRG videos. I already know almost everything those videos mention, but I can't get enough of people discovering the brilliance of DRG. Here's hoping for a part 3, ROCK AND STONE!
Hint on the EDD: haz 4 and 5 missions are good starting point for them, since EDD starts on 4.5. I didn’t do EDDs until I was comfortable on 4. But even then, sometimes the glyphids throw so much at you it’s hard to keep up. Great job! Rock and stone!
Pro tip for Elite Deep Dives! Bugs won't spawn and attack the drill, until Doretta is activated and sent on her way. Drill missions usually spawn in a southwest and downwards direction, so you can dig accordingly to do the secondary objectives first without worrying about Dotty!
Also a great opportunity to stock up on Nitra, gather gold and other resources, and take note of where all of the easy-to-reach shale oil deposits are.
Nice vid! Elite Deep Dives really require everyone to know their role, and have a decent loadout going in. They're certainly not impossible, but everyone needs to pull their own weight. It's FAR easier to have 2 or 3 good players than a full team where not everyone is at least competent on their class.
The drillers slow projectile gun has a apecial ability, where if you shoot the slow big shot with a faster small one, it blows up, allowing you to mine with it, or just torment your scout buddy. All missions including Deep dives scale based on number of players, so you just need good players with decent to good loadouts. For Edd, you should be able to comfortably able to beat haz 5 missions before they are really viable.
7:47 maybe someone already told you, but if after firirng the big slow sphere you fire the small fast sphere in the same direction, they will collide and create explosion nearly the same radius as the c4 (also useful for mining in unreachable places)
Elite deep dives end up having stage 3 being hazard 5.5, so. Makes sense that a green team like that would have significant difficulty (though those did look like some incredibly unfortunate situations, especially that bulk).

just so you know, one of the last upgrade on the tree for the drillers EPC secondary is called thin containment field, if you charge up a shot with it, then shoot the large ball with a faster uncharged shot, it will explode and can be use to kill bugs or mine stuff out of reach, makes it much better in my opinion.
Elite deep dives are something else. Me and my buddy recently did the one in sandblasted corridors where you do a salvage op with swarmageddon and two bulk detonators, and then when we completed that after like 3 or so tries we died instantly to a hiveguard in an enclosed space... fun times!
Elite deep dives are hazard 5 difficulty, so if you can't reliably do haz 4 you will struggle. Also you can use the platform gun to build a roof above Doretta to stop the rocks
Part 3: (What should be there) - The rest of the weapons - Overclocking. IDK if that is available - You completing a DEEP DIVE ELITE 🎉🥳 - and the Random Dangers of some missions
Fun fact: The Deep Dive’s scaling is Hazard 3, Hazard 3, Hazard…3. The Elite Deep Dive scales from Hazard 4, Hazard 5, and is the only vanilla place that will scale to _Hazard 5 and a half._ This is not a joke.
I did my first ever Deep Dive and Elite Deep Dive today, started playing about two weeks ago. DD is Haz 3 Stage 1, Haz 3.5 Stage 2-3. EDD is Haz 4.5 Stage 1, Haz 5 Stage 2, Haz 5.5 Stage 3. And of course the secondary is replaced by a lower than usual primary objective. I did normal first try with a friend of mine who played a while back but never did dives, elite we wiped on once and then completed the next go around. What’s nice about them is that if you do fail, the set deep dives on rotation are always the exact same layout for that week. You can memorize every ore deposit if you so please, but what it does better is allow you to prepare and plan more efficiently after failure. Also, Engineer Gaming. Rock and Stone.
Great video. Would love a part 3 with you trying out overclocks. The Hurricane's plasma blaster mod just got an update and is turning into a favorite. Each OC is basically meant for a playstyle and can really change how you play.

in your defense, elite deep dive difficulty varies a lot depending on the cave and the objectives, and i remember the one that you were showing being on the harder side, at least the final stage
I ALSO used to underrate engi. But trust me, once you get a feel for swarm spawn and where they flow, he’s an absolute monster. Turret whip warthog on the single turret gives you a lot more killing power with less micromanaging, and the breach cutter with spinning death absolutely annihilates. I promise he doesn’t need a hyper specific build to be fun lmao, he’s just got a lot of builds to choose from!
A good thing to note to Elite deep dives is, that their hazard level is 4.5, 5 and 5.5 for the first, second and third stage, while normal deep dive is only 3.5, 4 and 4.5. But yeah that edd I remember, it was pain... Rock and Stone brother, one day you will be graybeard enough to solo them mfs (I am certainly not yet)! Good video :)
Hey make sure you try the thin containment field upgrade on Driller's EPC. It isnt an overclock. It lets you shoot the charged up shot with an uncharged shot to create a big explosion that can destroy armor and everything around it and also mine minerals on ceilings or hard to reach areas!

This is the only game I have never gotten bored of playing, gameplay loop is so good I have everything in the game unlocked and still keep coming back just for how damn fun it is
The enormous financial success of "games as a service" has (in my opinion) led to a trend of developers/publishers focusing on making sure there's a focus on progression to keep people playing instead of just making a game fun enough for players to keep playing of their own volition. I don't play really play multiplayer games these days because of it, with rare exceptions like DRG that are just *fun*.
You need a tight, well-balanced team for the deep dives. I've gone with teams that didn't communicate, split up, and died one by one. But the best ones I've been with made it feel so slick and smooth. It was way more fun. This community is my favourite of any game. ❤️
Deep Dives use pre-determined seeds, with new seeds every week. I've got hundreds of hours in DRG, and EDD's can still be really difficult if the seed is particularly hard that week. One of the biggest factors in how easy or hard Deep Dives are is how much nitra is generated. Sometimes you have so much that you could call 5 resupplies after the 3rd mission ends, other times you end up running around in the middle of a swarm just trying to find another 20 nitra because everyone is completely out of ammo. There's other things to take into account too, like mission modifiers and biome. Like if you're in the ice biome, bringing cryo weapons can be worse for your team than it is for the bugs. Shield disruption, especially on the second and third stages, can be a big problem, but you can mitigate it by using health upgrades on your armor instead of shield ones, and being careful with weapons that can do a lot of friendly fire (maybe even take the reduced friendly fire perk). The biggest thing you can do is prepare well. Also, Iron Will is basically the most important perk in the game at high hazard levels (aka difficulty levels) and if you're not running it you're playing with a big handicap. The ability to self rez and get an ally or two up can be the difference between a wipe and a win. I hardly ever encounter another greybeard not running this perk, and it's super fun to clutch a mission with it too. Rock and stone, miners!

Fun fact you can use the engineer platforms to block the rocks from falling onto the drill in the heart stone missions which help with the damage control during the boss fight
you gotta try thin containment field on the driller's plasma gun. Its in the final upgrade area and it allows you to shoot the charged plasma ball in mid air to create a medium explosion that can even mine terrain
As someone who mained engineer until I reached gold rank with them, I want to speak the gospel of Breach Cutter. The upgrade that makes it shoot 3 beams instead of 1 along with some overclocks to increase damage or set things on fire means I can solo almost any boss with it (not to mention cover more area). I believe it does damage per tick while touching an enemy, so the bigger the hitbox on the enemy/projectile, the more damage done? Ammo was the only limiter, but when Dreadnaught weak spots are open, I absolutely shred. The beams nearly oneshot praetorians on any Hazard level, and three shots will kick the boss into the next phase. I haven't encountered the plague boss with it yet but I hope I do so I can see how well it performs. Other notes: I haven't gotten the nuke overclock for the grenade launcher, so that might do more but also it's very very likely to harm teammates so I don't think I'd prefer it over the cutter. The last primary for Engineer (the laser beam) is also super super good. It doesn't do as much raw damage as the breach cutter, but ignites most enemies in half a second and has a lot of ammo if you build it right. Overall I think it's the class that performs well regardless of mission type. Edit: Deep dives are doable, I recommend looking at the discord for DRG! They have a pinned post every week detailing the info for the dives so you can plan ahead, and then practice. The stages should be nearly identical each attempt, only changing when the dive itself changes every week. It requires so much skill and working in unison with the team, that it feels insane. There's definitely RNG too, but man it's a blast to make it out with the skin of your teeth on the EDDs
Fellow Breach Cutter enjoyer. You'll definitely learn to love it when dealing with Rockpox, _especially_ with the tri-beam volley upgrade that gives you three beams for the price of one.
the brt has an overclock where the spread becomes insane but it shreds weak spots.... the damage it can deal is otherworldly and is excellent vs bosses. rock and stone brotha
love me some elite deep dives. not that hard once you know what you're doing. Really enjoy playing an EDD with 3 randoms and we all with only the tiniest amount of communication get on the same wave length and beat it. Once you have those really good overclocks and you're a real graybeard, carrying greenbeards through EDD's is the best part of the game.

Haz5.5 is pretty common if you do missions with modifieds like regen bugs and stuff. Its nothing too bad.

I'd rather say get comfy on haz 5s. Since, well, its the average for the difficulty of an EDD (first mission being easier and last one harder)
They also scale with the number of dwarves, so EDD with 4 Players is way harder than EDD with 2 Players

Thin Containment field is the reason i run EPC on all my Driller loadouts. Just being able to mine things anywhere is so convenient.

just so you know, one of the last upgrade on the tree for the drillers EPC secondary is called thin containment field, if you charge up a shot with it, then shoot the large ball with a faster uncharged shot, it will explode and can be use to kill bugs or mine stuff out of reach, makes it much better in my opinion.
Elite deep dives are something else. Me and my buddy recently did the one in sandblasted corridors where you do a salvage op with swarmageddon and two bulk detonators, and then when we completed that after like 3 or so tries we died instantly to a hiveguard in an enclosed space...

Elite deep dives are hazard 5 difficulty, so if you can't reliably do haz 4 you will struggle.
Also you can use the platform gun to build a roof above Doretta to stop the rocks

I did my first ever Deep Dive and Elite Deep Dive today, started playing about two weeks ago. DD is Haz 3 Stage 1, Haz 3.5 Stage 2-3. EDD is Haz 4.5 Stage 1, Haz 5 Stage 2, Haz 5.5 Stage 3. And of course the secondary is replaced by a lower than usual primary objective. I did normal first try with a friend of mine who played a while back but never did dives, elite we wiped on once and then completed the next go around. What’s nice about them is that if you do fail, the set deep dives on rotation are always the exact same layout for that week. You can memorize every ore deposit if you so please, but what it does better is allow you to prepare and plan more efficiently after failure. Also, Engineer Gaming. Rock and Stone.

in your defense, elite deep dive difficulty varies a lot depending on the cave and the objectives, and i remember the one that you were showing being on the harder side, at least the final stage
I ALSO used to underrate engi. But trust me, once you get a feel for swarm spawn and where they flow, he’s an absolute monster. Turret whip warthog on the single turret gives you a lot more killing power with less micromanaging, and the breach cutter with spinning death absolutely annihilates.
I promise he doesn’t need a hyper specific build to be fun lmao, he’s just got a lot of builds to choose from!
I always use gemini turrets, but I 100% agree with this.
(I have been loving the shard diffractor with the lava OC though. I call it The Lamethrower.)

A good thing to note to Elite deep dives is, that their hazard level is 4.5, 5 and 5.5 for the first, second and third stage, while normal deep dive is only 3.5, 4 and 4.5. But yeah that edd I remember, it was pain... Rock and Stone brother, one day you will be graybeard enough to solo them mfs (I am certainly not yet)! Good video :)

Hey make sure you try the thin containment field upgrade on Driller's EPC. It isnt an overclock. It lets you shoot the charged up shot with an uncharged shot to create a big explosion that can destroy armor and everything around it and also mine minerals on ceilings or hard to reach areas!

This is the only game I have never gotten bored of playing, gameplay loop is so good I have everything in the game unlocked and still keep coming back just for how damn fun it is
The enormous financial success of "games as a service" has (in my opinion) led to a trend of developers/publishers focusing on making sure there's a focus on progression to keep people playing instead of just making a game fun enough for players to keep playing of their own volition.
I don't play really play multiplayer games these days because of it, with rare exceptions like DRG that are just *fun*.
You need a tight, well-balanced team for the deep dives. I've gone with teams that didn't communicate, split up, and died one by one. But the best ones I've been with made it feel so slick and smooth. It was way more fun. This community is my favourite of any game. ❤️
Deep Dives use pre-determined seeds, with new seeds every week. I've got hundreds of hours in DRG, and EDD's can still be really difficult if the seed is particularly hard that week.
One of the biggest factors in how easy or hard Deep Dives are is how much nitra is generated. Sometimes you have so much that you could call 5 resupplies after the 3rd mission ends, other times you end up running around in the middle of a swarm just trying to find another 20 nitra because everyone is completely out of ammo.
There's other things to take into account too, like mission modifiers and biome. Like if you're in the ice biome, bringing cryo weapons can be worse for your team than it is for the bugs. Shield disruption, especially on the second and third stages, can be a big problem, but you can mitigate it by using health upgrades on your armor instead of shield ones, and being careful with weapons that can do a lot of friendly fire (maybe even take the reduced friendly fire perk).
The biggest thing you can do is prepare well.
Also, Iron Will is basically the most important perk in the game at high hazard levels (aka difficulty levels) and if you're not running it you're playing with a big handicap. The ability to self rez and get an ally or two up can be the difference between a wipe and a win. I hardly ever encounter another greybeard not running this perk, and it's super fun to clutch a mission with it too.

Fun fact you can use the engineer platforms to block the rocks from falling onto the drill in the heart stone missions which help with the damage control during the boss fight
you gotta try thin containment field on the driller's plasma gun. Its in the final upgrade area and it allows you to shoot the charged plasma ball in mid air to create a medium explosion that can even mine terrain

The sound effect difference between engies shotgun (being meh) to the "stubby" and "lok-1" is so much more satisfying
swarm clear is very important in higher difficulties like elite deep dive. driller has to do a lot of work if you're all doing roughly vanilla builds.
I have 690 hours of playtime on this game and I still love to see people talk about how amazing it is. Great video, keep it up!
the burst pistol from the gunner is actually amazing once you get the overclocks and build for it, its alot like the gun robocop has in the old movie

I feel pretty good about defeating an Elite Deep Dive solo.. twice! It is so brutally hard, but definitely doable!
As someone who mained engineer until I reached gold rank with them, I want to speak the gospel of Breach Cutter. The upgrade that makes it shoot 3 beams instead of 1 along with some overclocks to increase damage or set things on fire means I can solo almost any boss with it (not to mention cover more area). I believe it does damage per tick while touching an enemy, so the bigger the hitbox on the enemy/projectile, the more damage done? Ammo was the only limiter, but when Dreadnaught weak spots are open, I absolutely shred. The beams nearly oneshot praetorians on any Hazard level, and three shots will kick the boss into the next phase. I haven't encountered the plague boss with it yet but I hope I do so I can see how well it performs.
Other notes: I haven't gotten the nuke overclock for the grenade launcher, so that might do more but also it's very very likely to harm teammates so I don't think I'd prefer it over the cutter. The last primary for Engineer (the laser beam) is also super super good. It doesn't do as much raw damage as the breach cutter, but ignites most enemies in half a second and has a lot of ammo if you build it right. Overall I think it's the class that performs well regardless of mission type.
Edit: Deep dives are doable, I recommend looking at the discord for DRG! They have a pinned post every week detailing the info for the dives so you can plan ahead, and then practice. The stages should be nearly identical each attempt, only changing when the dive itself changes every week. It requires so much skill and working in unison with the team, that it feels insane. There's definitely RNG too, but man it's a blast to make it out with the skin of your teeth on the EDDs

the brt has an overclock where the spread becomes insane but it shreds weak spots.... the damage it can deal is otherworldly and is excellent vs bosses. rock and stone brotha
8:10 you can shoot that charged projectile for a MASSIVE explosion. More experienced players even mine with this combo.
love me some elite deep dives. not that hard once you know what you're doing. Really enjoy playing an EDD with 3 randoms and we all with only the tiniest amount of communication get on the same wave length and beat it. Once you have those really good overclocks and you're a real graybeard, carrying greenbeards through EDD's is the best part of the game.
