I love how both of these ships look and am glad they are both coming in a single set. It;s just so dissapointing that the X-Wing doesn't do the one thing that you'd want an X-Wing to do.
06:17 it’s not a gimmick. Whilst sure LEGO/Disney have seized on it as a gimmick idea to redo the x wing and tie fighter sets rather than just having another redo of the ships individually, these two mashed up ships do exist in pre-Disney and pre-LEGO/rebuild the universe canon. They are known as “uglies”. Fighters and ships assembled from random parts or whatever was available. They existed in post-ROTJ Star Wars after the Empire fell apart, no empire and the manufacturing facilities kind of went to shit. So ship builders started making these to use up parts they had. But some uglies were deliberately designed that way. My point is that these kind of ships have been in Star Wars canon since before Disney in the expanded universe.
Not to mention if you swap them, all the engines go to the X-Tie. The quad engines from the X Wing and the Twin Ion Engine from the TIE are all together. The other ship has zero engines haha
Great video, loving your content recently. A tiny correction though, it's "S-foils", not "X-foils". Despite them being X wings, "lock S foils in attack position" is what's in the films

I think the x wing looks pretty ok tbh for its size, not so keen on the tie fighter, looks pretty squashed and goofy but u wouldn't call it terrible. I am also pretty sure this whole idea is based on an original idea from star wars legends, i remember seein ages ago how parents cobbled together and mashed up parts between the x wing and tie fighter which they have clealy now used for this concept.

Scala is a reference to the old Lego Theme. Greebling is named after all the little details modelmakers use to detail models. I like the idea of this set, but wished there was more rebuilding from this set than just swapping the wings
I think that the TIE bomber was the test bed for the blacked out cockpit window. I have a feeling that's likely how all TIE Fighters will be from now on.
Thanks for the review, Solid! I've noticed that in certain parts of your reviews, the narration doesn't seem to match up with the footage of the model. I'm not sure if that is intentional, it just seems delayed by like 10 to 20 seconds, lol. A piece of the model will be shown, then talked about after moving to a different shot. Overall, though, awesome video!
Definitely agree on the price, I think maybe a year and a half ago through normal small sales on Amazon I got the TIE Fighter, XWing, and Obi Jedi Fighter for $100.
People should really compare these lego sets to the models used in the movies. Because these 2 ships are definitely the most accurate tie and x-wing lego has done at this scale yet. The designers should be proud with this one.
I love the idea of an X-Wing and TIE combo pack but they should’ve tossed in a stormtrooper and rebel trooper in as well, the actual builds look really good though in scale with the other recent fighters released.
I was originally happy with the idea of an X-Wing Tie-Fighter mashup set, but seeing it now I’m just disappointed. I’m still getting the set, but only for the ships.
The gimmick is pretty great and I think will make the set worth it. There were mashup ships like these in the old EU/Legends called “Uglies”. But you’re right the minifigs are lacking. They should have added two more minifigs and ideally they’d be named canon characters.
I love how people complain about non-canon figures but don’t complain about how putting the TIE fighter solar panels on the X-Wing fuselage wouldn’t work because the TIE’s engines are on the main pod and and the X-Wing engines are on the wings.
I like your honesty in this review! For me these might be the best versions of the 2 ships, especially that I have the TIE bomber set and I like it's windshield design (if only the view of the pilot wasn't blocked, it would probably be perfect). The TIE Fighter's guns in the front and the absolutely awful sticker engines need changing to match the bomber but otherwise it's great, especially that it's actually minifigure scale, not like the big 2017 one. The X-Wing seems more sturdy than it's predecessor and I like the landing gear. I love that we get an unnamed rebel pilot and not an another Luke's X-wing this time but I agree, the rest of the minifigs are a little underwhelming. Also, thanks for speaking about the pricing issue.
I like this non canon sets. Reminds me of when Lego Star Wars was an actual Lego product that inspired creativity like the good old days The only issue I have that’s too god damn expensive.
I'm absolutely going to be picking up this set soon as I can. The builds are great, the play features look fun and its an awesome example of the Vs. sets Lego has been making. I feel like the points about non-canon characters being included is a little ridiculous given it's for an original show. Plus even if you don't like them you still get civilian looking characters along with some generic pilots for generic ships. I think having just regular no-name figures are fine, I'd even like to see more. Put a little bit of City into Star Wars.
The 2021 X-wing actually made an X when the wings were on attack position. This new one makes more of a >-< shape... kinda like the in universe T-85. I have both previous versions of these vehicles and I'm pretty happy with them, not too thrilled about this set...
I appreciate the constructive criticism in this review. You make great points about value. I’m very much on the same page as you in regards to the price being unreasonably high
I feel like the TIE got a bit shafted in terms of detail. Gone is the printed roof hatch, and even the literal reason we call them TIEs, the twin ion engines, are stickers.
Kinda sad how the astromech droid is literally the LEGO colors but the McDonald’s brand is way more recognizable
I feel like if they added blue and green it would look more like Lego colors, even if they might not be the strict Lego logo colors
It’s because they added too much yellow

Yeah just like the old tie and x-wing, those things were everywhere
You switched the laser bolts. The TIE fighter fires the green bolts and X-Wing fires red.
I was originally happy with the idea of an X-Wing Tie-Fighter mashup set, but seeing it now I’m just disappointed. I’m still getting the set, but only for the ships.
In case you didn't remember, the Tie Fighter has green lasers and the X-Wings have red.
Hopefully the next Xwing and Tie Fighter we get are in the old bigger scale
Dude keeps saying kids will have fun with it, he looked like he was having so much fun.😀
As an x-wing there, I feel like that might be an excellent "elevated" version of the OG...
The TIE-fighter looks better in person, at least.
Reminds me of when Lego Star Wars was an actual Lego product that inspired creativity like the good old days
The only issue I have that’s too god damn expensive.
I actually think both builds look very good. The price is high yes but I like the builds
Thanks for saving me money, David. I'll stick to my 2021 X-Wing and TIE
The X-Wing with the TIE Fighter wings is basically the V-Wing from Episode III
David let Bob free! We know you have him behind the camera and we know the starfighter “you were talking about”
Lego won't let him, L company.
MandR already dropped a review
Nah I'd rather boycott mandr
@@Gundamfan24k-wr4mv what did he do?
i kinda like those new build mechanics at the entire cheeks and nose of that x wing
I like the more old school approach to the X-wing but REALLY don't like the Tiny scaled down TIE Fighter mimicking the scaled down TIE Bomber.
Thanks for the purist Cobb Vanth legs Lego!
The X-wing is so good
The 2021 X-wing actually made an X when the wings were on attack position. This new one makes more of a >-< shape... kinda like the in universe T-85.
I have both previous versions of these vehicles and I'm pretty happy with them, not too thrilled about this set...
The X-Wing body with the Tie Fighter sides is similar to the V-Wing. The X-Wing's wings are also technically S-foils, S being for strike.
I’m so excited for this set!
that is lowkey the best x wing they made
My favorite scale for a Tie fighter is the one from 2011
It’s $180 Australian. It’s insane. INSANE pricing
I appreciate the constructive criticism in this review. You make great points about value. I’m very much on the same page as you in regards to the price being unreasonably high
Cool set
Low key fire set
I feel like the TIE got a bit shafted in terms of detail. Gone is the printed roof hatch, and even the literal reason we call them TIEs, the twin ion engines, are stickers.
for anyone that's a fan of the old EU X-wing books, being able to build an official Deathseed lego set is gonna be a draw.
