    Hey Jake
    Wanted to thank you for this and all your vids. They are super helpful and have really helped me not only to decide on doing a lot of these things myself but where to get the upgrades, too! You and Josh Wolff have not only inspired but helped everyone else learn about, and avoid making, costly repairs or at the least to do the upgrades so as not to break in the middle of nowhere! I will never be ballsy enough to go places with my CRV like you but will definitely be confident to do the light trails for camping and playing in the snow!
    I am truly grateful for all of your efforts!

    Now that is what I need on my 2000 CRV out here in Iowa. Looks like rust isn't to big a problem out your way like it is here in the rust belt. Cool video and thank you for helping me out deciding weather or not to upgrade. My Crv goes great through the snow but I know it can do better.

    so if you just swapped the clutch pads for the clutch delete kit you showed, would the vehicle handle fine as a 4x4 or are these pads also taking the role of the center diff and this would only lead to stress un the drive train/ chassis?

    • @djlf1868

      not sure if you still need help with this but what you need is a subframe drop kit, not a sturdier axle

    • @brassmule
      @brassmule 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@djlf1868Exactly. More than 1 to 1.5 inch lift on the CRV or Element and you will have problems without a subframr drop.

And honestly this comment is super cool, thank you for your concern haha but I'm OK just lazy 😅 I've talked about doing a winch on the crv this year so look forward to that before offroad season starts!

    Next time heat up the aluminum case with propane torch, then drill with a left hand drill bit. Sharpen the bit with high relief angles so it grabs and hopefully it grabs and since it’s turning left will back out the screw

    you guys should just engeer a sliding clutch for the rear diff to make it a cable actuated part time 4wd case, that would be better off road and simpler than the conversion.

    I just recently bought 06 CR V 5 speed manual. Had rear diff fluid changed at dealer because of loud roar or hum in what sounds like it’s coming from diff. Do you think it could be clutch pack in diff? It seems to work ok , but very annoying and concerning noise! Please help!

    • @tennisontower8003
      @tennisontower8003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be the previous owner did not change the fluid enough. Have the rear diff fluid changed again, and you may see an improvement. If there is still noise, another flush and refill could fix or improve the noise. More than two flushes would likely not provide more benefit. It is best to drain the fluid hot, or at least used. Drive the car in tight circles left and right just before draining to get the fluid worked up.

    You're lucky you can readily remove the rear diff without even detaching the struts. 2nd gen is nasty.

    So basically.. everything you did in this video, turn the awd drive system into a full 4 wheel drive system?

    • @beefybuilt488
      @beefybuilt488  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its still just awd but now it more so awd than before. The factory system for the crv is more or less fwd with rear wheel assist. (It takes a second for the rear diff to engage) now with the landrover setup its basically instantly locked in.

    What year of Land Rover is the drive shaft and where did you buy the plate and the adapters?

  • @builtandraised
    @builtandraised 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much was the drive shaft and viscous coupler and the lock rings from hrg? I want this for my 1st gen really bad. I wonder what happens if i lock the rear on the stock driveshaft you think it will destroy the driveshaft or transmission?

    • @mrjoecool6484
      @mrjoecool6484 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll chime in since I just bought all the items you mentioned and more. The HRG locking plates are $250 + shipping. The Freelander viscous couplers are difficult to find where I live but I see them on occasion selling for approx. $550 on Facebook. I just priced one from a junkyard for $420 but the dude I was dealing with was sounding pretty sketchy and refused to do PayPal so I decided to buy everything brand new for right at $750 for all the drive shaft components. The adapters are $369, I think $360 something anyway. DCA website is, well I don't think it's been updated for years, so just do like Jake suggested and contact the guy through facebook. He promises to have them made and sent off to you in 2 work days. NRG offers what looks to be the same thing for a flat $300 even. Might buy those for my other CRV. And of course the mounting plate I still have to fabricate. I chose all new because I didn't want to rebuild the V/C anytime soon. The driveshafts and carrier bearings I got off eBay. The V/C and connecting bolts/washers, I bought from LRDirect (Land Rover Direct). They had the best price and are OEM replacement grade. For me it was worth it to have all new parts since I'm rebuilding the entire drivetrain and suspension (save for the engine and transmission. I hope I get a million miles out of them). Also if your interested AutoZone has the best price on a Exedy flywheel and eBay has best price on the Exedy stage 1 clutch kit.
      Lastly, if you lock the rear diff without a viscous coupler YOU WILL DESTROY SOMETHING IF NOT EVERYTHING!
