During a recent visit with my family who reside in the Nashville area .. we had the opportunity to enjoy a really delightful brunch at the Union Station restaurant. Indeed .. this was one of the highlights of my journey .. a truly Grand Day .. amid a truly Grand Structure. I salute the folks who worked so hard to save this majestic treasure of yesteryear. I rode L&N trains nos. 5 and 98, the Humming Bird and Pan American respectively from Nashville to Mobile, AL in the late 50s and early 60s to visit my grandmother and other relatives. I have the fondest memories of Union Station and will cherish them always.

One thing about life as we get older, things change the memories we have are dear to us but new generations of people come to life and nothings stays the same every generation sings that same ole song sad but true

Five generations of my family worked on the L&N. One of my ancestors founded the L&N. It wasn't until my father came along and didn't want to work on the RR that the line was broken. The loss of trains in this country due to Ike's Interstate High Way System is one the saddest things that ever happened to this country.

Mom and I went and picketed when they announced that Union Station was to be torn down in the 1970s. Miraculously it survived and was restored to it's original splendor in the early 1980s. I went back to see it a couple of years ago and was devastated at how it was ruined by the hotel chain that owns it now. They had painted everything cream and maroon and had covered the original floors with flamingo carpets. Maybe one day it will be put back like it was when first restored.

This station's virtual twin, in downtown Louisville, is now the city's public transit headquarters. It sits rights beside the huge, block-wide, 15-story building that was the L&N Railroad headquarters-now a restored state office center.

Its a hotel now, not a train station.. I've lived in Nashville all my life, 31 yrs,, but have only stayed at Union Station once,,, its a really cool hotel now.. even still has a historic feel.

I saw it before the old shed burned down. The stairs that descended down to the tracks and all that coal dust that settled on everything.
