Chris, We are following the instructions as you show them and have one question on securing the ribbon. It seems like using just the little black bead to hold the ribbon allowing the trigger to be pulled is risky. It slips a little . Should you add a knot? I would not want the pressure of the inflation tube to pull the ribbon without pulling the trigger. What did you do to insure the bead does not let the ribbon slip too much?

@@Saga47swanSailing Thank you. We have the ribbon without the newer luggage tag type attachment. I can see why they changed it as the plain flat ribbon is very difficult to secure with out using a knot instead of just the sliding bead type. I should have Ocean Signal send me the new lanyard.
Your videos are teriffic!!!! I installed the MOB1 on a West Marine Offshore Life Vest/Harness. The bladder is attached to the harness, so the enclosed tab and tape, so we needed to use the enclosed tab and tape for the lanyard. The fill tube is on the center of the bladder, so the MOB is installed to the right side of the bladder (enclosed instructions for the tab/tape) are "ok" (not great). I activated the MOB1 while attaching the lanyard. The antenna springs out and the gray activation tab (armed MOB1) might go overboard while assembling (and not careful) in the boat's cockpit. A two second push on the button deactivates the MOB. We found the parts. The gray cylinder in the kit is used to rewind (and arm) the antenna. Thank you and safe sailing.
First of all, I totally agree, the directions need improvement. I’m a traveling sailor, sailing on different boats every time. Is this device ideal for me? I like the AIS signal as that’s my closest point of rescue. But it needs to go out without an MMIS number since I’m not traveling on my boat
Amy, thanks for feedback. The Ais device is great as the crew can “see” you . You can reprogram every time you get on a new boat. Alternative, you can get a PBL, but a PBL only shows your position to the rescue services and not tothe boats in the area. I don’t think there is a device yet that has both PLB & AIS ( some regulation issues), but it may come in the near future.
and more. when activated, the MOB1 will show up on all vessels with AIS that are in line of sight of the transmitter. When linked to the boat you are on, it activates an alarm on your vessel’s AIS device that might wake up crewmates.

Yes, it can be armed at all time .
