Kenny! Are you familiar with Japanese Jazz? I love finding obscure musicians on Spotify. Maybe for a future video I’d love to see Jazz recommendations from different countries from you!
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews There is a great Japanese pianist - Tsuyoshi Yamamoto - it is a must that you check him out. I discovered him in 2022 and I was pleasantly surprised.
@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I recently found a rare video from 1992 of Screaming Jay Hawkins doing his live version of the (Old Man River) song. It was weird and spectacular at the same time, and I was wondering if you had any of his albums in your collection?
Hi Kenny, great review, as usual :)) Two great Cannonball Adderley records i would mention are: 1) ...with Milt Jackson "Things are getting better" (OJC-032); and "Know What I Mean" with Bill Evans (OJC-105). These 80's OJC reissues are good value for money ! "Somethin' Else" is still my favorite Cannonball Adderley record; i have a 1964 Blue Note (New York Labels) stereo copy: the sound is just "out of this world" so goood !!! Cheers, Luca
Hi Kenny! This week I got the Miles album from Amazon. It sounds great for an album originally released in 1956. The music and the playing are amazing. I will check out the other two albums. Many thanks, you are doing a great job, letting us know about all this wonderful music.
Thanks again for your recommendations! Miles, Duke, Quincey, Cannonball, just to name a few have so many gems waiting to be rediscovered, to fresh ears makes for eager moments when you drop a new video!
Love the channel. Just checked Thad. It is fantastic. I like the coloration in tone on those old records. I hear what you say about " detail" BUT as for paint splashed on the canvas WOW. This is a great resource thankyou.
The atmosphere created on the Cannonball Adderley albums is reminiscent of the atmosphere on the Ramsey Lewis ‘The In Crowd’ live album. I wonder if Mr. Lewis gave Mr. Adderley the idea.
Kenny, I was told by a TH-cam vinyl collector that there was no real Jazz albums made in the 1980's when made the comment about all these vinyl sites just seem to be living in the past. So can you check these out: Terence Blanchard & Donald Harrison - Crystal Stair (1987) Tony Williams - Civilization (1987) Billy Pierce - Give And Take (1988)
I have and love both of those Cannonball Adderley albums. But of his live soul jazz albums, it's Country Preacher that I reach for more. Great audience.
Miles was always on the turntable in our home when I was growing up. From my earliest memories, my father would preach to me the genius of Miles, Coltrane, Ornette, Billie, and many others. It killed him (not literally) when I heard The Beatles, and started digging them, thus moving away from jazz. Of course, now and for the past 28 years I've been listening almost exclusively to jazz/ creative music. Do you appreciate Anthony Braxton? What about John Zorn? Have a great listening day Kenny and thanks for your insights.
Hey Kenny! Top of the morning to you Brother, ( I have to remember that I'm on the East coast in Baltimore, MD!)The Miles, and the Thad Jones LP's, both of which I love, were (as I know you know!😆)recorded in Rudy Van Gelder's living room. This was before he built his studio in Englewood Clifts. I have been noticing this myself for years. On quite a few, but not all of Van Gelder's recordings in the living room location, the piano lacks some sharpness. It sounds as if a large soff cloth has been draped over it. Other than that" RVG" has done his usual good job of capturing the overall live music performance.
My brother from Baltimore, Good Morning!!!😊...thank you very much for mentioning that..I'll have to check out some other RVG recordings to ses it the piano was recorded better.
Obrigado pelas precisas informações sobre álbuns que muitas vezes não obtiveram o prestígio que merecem. Eu não conhecia o álbum "Miles" . Zenon (from Brasil)
Brother Kenny I watch all your videos. I'm not an record collector nor an audiophile. Just a jazz lover. I have about 1000 albums, CD's and cassettes. 95 percent of my listening is through Spotify. I get recommendations from your show then listen on Spotify. My question do you listen to modern jazz artists like Emmanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross, Samara Joy. Peace be with you.
I do not have much in terms of new or modern jazz music but it's something that I definitely want to explore in the new future. Thank you very much for your question and peace and joy to you always 🙏
The spectre of Rudy Van Gelder looms large. Great engineer but man, he couldn't record piano properly to save his life. So many classic albums where the piano, except for certain players who can be recognized stylistically, sounded the same: thin and with barely any resonance. Thank God the man didn't record any of Monk's significant work or we would have missed out on most of his genius. Great albums and good recommendations though. Keep 'em coming.

Thank you for the question and suggestion. The only Japanese jazz musicians that I have in my collection are Kosuke Mine and Sadao Watanabe.

Many thanks and good morning Kenny!!
Good morning and I hope that you have a blessed day ✌️
Kenny: Got all of them. Good review.
Thank you very much 😊 ✌️
I have the same feeling about the lack of presence of the piano. Neverless, great recommendations. Thank you, sir!
You're very welcome!, thank you 😊
Over the last couple of days, I went and listened to all of your recommendations, and they sound good for audiophile listens for mood settings.👍
Thank you for listening and I'm glad that you enjoyed the music 🎶

I do not have any of his albums
@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I think he might be one of the most untalked about vocalist of all time?
I watched that video that you are talking about...he was a great singer and piano player 👏 👍

Thank you very much for watching 😊✌️

I'm gladl that you mentioned that...I agree that the atmosphere and vibe are very similar 👌
thanks for the jazz mr clean

I appreciate your recommendations, Kenny.
Thank you very much 😊
That's always been the one common criticism of Rudy Van Gelder, the recording of the piano.

Good Afternoon Kenny from 🇬🇧 Things are going well for the Dodgers in the World Series so far. ❤⚾
Good morning to you too 😊...I thoroughly enjoyed watching both games, just two more games for a Dodgers World Series victory 😊✌️
Nate Adderly, Jr., would later become the arranger and on some compositions, co-writer for Luther Vandross. Especially his earlier album releases.

I'd love to hear you do a review of Max Roach Trio featuring The Legendary Hasaan

The issue with the piano goes back to RVG's recording. The biggest criticism of him is/was that he didn't mic pianos very well.
Thank you for mentioning that because you can definitely hear the lack of clean defined sound coming from the piano.

Every BLUE NOTE RECORD its a CLASSIC THAD was a MASTER .
I assume you’ve heard of Lightmen Plus One. If not, well worth it
I've never heard that album but I'll check it out.
@ look up Energy Control Center by that group. Bubbha Thomas was awesome
Hey Kenny, have you heard the Happy Blues by the Gene Ammons all stars. The whole album is great and the title track is one of my all time favorites
I have not heard that album before, thanks for the recommendation 😊
