I'm a truck driver that had to come off the road because both my parents were diagnosed with cancer. Dad has died but Mom is hanging in through chemotherapy for leukemia. This song describes me perfectly. I miss my Freightliner everyday. So while I take shifts driving kids to school in Pascagoula, MS; I'm teaching myself the guitar and piano while playing my trumpet. Back in the 80's as my co-driver wife and I left the driveway pulling our rally car headed out of state she always started singing this. Lost her to cancer in '06. Now 85, I still cry every time I hear Willie sing it.

Okay so I have a short story,
few days ago I was installing audio into my gf's fathers car for surprise fathers day gift. He got home late so I was installing it at midnight. So I'm outside and its pitch black out and I hear this song playing. It gets louder and louder signaling that it's getting closer. I was thinking a motorcycle was coming but I couldn't hear the motorcycle so I'm thinking " there is no way it's that then" It was at that moment I started to get a little scared because it was so freaking loud, couldn't hear a car and it was coming fast!
All that was running in my head was "welp looks like a psychopath is about to kill me" Then out of no where a very old style police car with a HUGE ASS siren...thing roped on it speeds by. I had never seen that car ever before and was so confused about the whole thing. Well next day arrives and I was describing what happened to my co worker and I was trying to see if I could find a picture of that car on google, well turns out that's the "Blues Brothers" car. I guess it was a replica or something but yeah, so now I have a great memory of this song lol. P.s. if you took time to read all of this you're awesome :)

Dude when I was at Heavy TO back in 2011 (a METAL festival), the PA started playing Walk the Line at one point and literally the WHOLE CROWD was singing along and PROUDLY, and we then proceeded to spend an hour Booing at Billy Talent while we were waiting for Rob Zombie after Slayer had just played. We were just talking about being on the road with my dad when I was a little girl. Every time I hear this song it makes me cry.. happy tears. Trucker family that's what we are. Truckers are some of the best people. We were a big family that's what it felt like. Passing by each other on the road waving "Hi" to the other truckers. Flashing lights to let the other trucks know they can get threw or pass us up flashing the back lights to say " thank you" Truck stops were Awesome had the best games and really big food.. mmmm Some states only played country, so that's when I fell in love with country music. I miss it so much, I may not look like a country girl but it's in my heart, forever

***** It's a really tough life style. I wouldn't recommend getting into it just like that. Go for a ride with a trucker, ask to tag along, and see what they do and experience the crap that they experience constantly.

Used to take my mom and grandmother to local pub, to see one man band , they both requested this song several times a night.. he was so sweet and kind,he played this song at least 3 or 4 times throughout the night. Brought those ladies such joy to sing along. They are both gone now , and this song is bittersweet to me now. Thank you Willie, (and musician Justin) for the memories.
