  • Welcome to Car That Car, Today, we're diving into the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, a car that's set to redefine the iconic Corvette lineage with its groundbreaking features. If you like these videos please subscribe to the channel.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray is a game-changer. It's Chevrolet's bold foray into the world of electrified performance. At first glance, the E-Ray's design is unmistakably Corvette - aggressive, sleek, and aerodynamically optimized. But it's under the hood where the magic really happens. Chevy has integrated electric motors with the Corvette's traditional V8 engine, delivering a level of performance that's both exhilarating and efficient.
The Corvette E-Ray challenges the typical hybrid expectations. Its electrification is focused more on boosting performance than reducing fuel consumption. The primary engine is a 6.2-liter V-8, and the electric motors kick in under specific conditions or when one of the two EV drive modes is activated. Unlike most hybrids, the E-Ray doesn’t operate solely on electric power during normal driving and isn’t a plug-in model.
The E-Ray's electric components power the front wheels, with batteries located in the structural tunnel inside the passenger compartment. The eAWD system manages power distribution, utilizing the electric front drive for enhanced performance during acceleration and cornering. Although the batteries discharge rapidly during high-intensity driving, the system maintains a minimum charge to prevent a switch to rear-wheel drive only. However, the electric system disengages at speeds over 150 mph.
The Corvette E-Ray sets a new benchmark with its manufacturer-estimated 0-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds, edging out the Z06 by 0.1 second. It has a 10.5-second quarter-mile time.
This incredible quickness owes much to the all-wheel drive's enhanced traction. Unlike the Stingray and Z06, which can experience some wheel slip under heavy acceleration, the E-Ray's front tires provide extra grip, making it hard to spin the rears even when pushing hard.
the corners is where the E-Ray truly excels. The car's eAWD and Performance Traction Management systems work in real-time, analyzing surface friction, tire traction, and driver input to adjust torque distribution for optimal balance and cornering stability.
Even with all of that. The E-Ray is capable of drifting.
While electric propulsion isn't the primary focus of the E-Ray, it does offer two silent drive modes: Stealth and Shuttle. Stealth mode allows driving solely on battery power at speeds up to 45 mph, with the 1.9-kWh battery lasting about 3-4 miles. The gasoline engine activates for higher torque demands or when accessories like the HVAC system need it. Shuttle mode, on the other hand, limits the speed to 15 mph and turns off the gasoline engine.
The interior of the Corvette E-Ray closely mirrors that of the Stingray and Z06 models. It maintains a two-seater configuration and offers a range of high-end material options like leather, faux suede, and accents in metal or carbon fiber. Similar to other Corvette models, the coupe version features a removable roof, which conveniently fits in the trunk behind the engine compartment. This doesn't compromise its practicality, as the rear trunk is spacious enough to hold two golf bags, and the smaller front trunk provides additional storage space, particularly useful when the roof is stowed.
The driving experience is centered around a uniquely squared-off steering wheel, which surprisingly feels natural in hand. The driver faces a 12.0-inch reconfigurable gauge display and a large infotainment touchscreen that's angled towards the driver, enhancing ease of use. The infotainment system includes special pages that display information about the electric motor and gas engine's power and torque.
One of the most distinctive features of the E-Ray's interior is its driver-focused design, epitomized by what could be called the Great Wall of HVAC Controls. This tall divider splits the cockpit and is topped with a series of switches for the climate control, further emphasizing the car's driver-centric approach.
"In summary, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray marks a significant moment in automotive history. It combines the Corvette's legendary performance with the benefits of electric power, offering a driving experience that's both thrilling and forward-thinking.
