I was thinking of maybe deleting this clip but I thought maybe this can help people be aware of situations like these instead. There are a lot of very helpful comments down below that gives out advice on what to do on situations like these.

I would like to add the "Tanim-bala" / "Bullet planting" / "Bullet dropping" incident.
Basically it's a scam that happened way back 2016(or something) where the modus is either the staff or some random person associated with staff "plants" a bullet in your luggage (either by slipping in one of the pockets or some crease on your bag) then claim that you have illegal possession of deadly weapons or something then scam you to pay the fees or be detained. This has happened both to locals and tourists, maybe even passersby.
TL;DR "Bullet planting" in some part of your luggage before being scanned, gets you either detained or pay the fee to not be detained.
It has been years since I last went to NAIA or even made any kind of flight, so maybe there's a new kind of scam going on unknown to public, but still, *DO NOT TRUST ANY HUMANS* and *STICK TO YOUR FAMILY/FRIENDS/COLLEAGUES AND ALWAYS BE VIGILANT*

I agree, it's better to keep this clip posted. Hopefully it can serve as a cautionary tale for other people who want to visit the Philippines. Many locals, authorities included, are very predatory and aren't above exploiting unwitting tourists for some extra cash. Best to visit the country if you're actual friends with a local who could guide and help you keep safe during your stay. Lock your luggage, trust no strangers, and be especially wary of the authorities.
The Philippines is in a shitty state right now with its current government, so I'd personally advise everyone to steer clear for the time being. Right now it's nothing short of a country of thieves, run by thieves.

In case anyone finds this comment and ever has the misfortune of needing to come to Manila, know that what basically happened was the airport staff were trying to plant drugs in Elira's suitcase.
Why? It's to fulfill a "quota" by either the police or the airport security. this quota is basically a required amount of arrests so that they can get bonus/money from whoever is in charge.
another reason that this may have happened is said airport staff wanted to scare/blackmail Elira into paying money so that she can leave the country without facing jail time.
I dont know how to prevent this kind of thing from happening, but it's always a good thing to cause a small scene. Say things like "No that isn't mine!" or "Your scaring me here!" loud enough to catch other people's attention.
EDIT: I changed up the wording a bit. Instead of yelling and what not, just cause a scene where you keep saying "No" to the staff. Just loud enough for other people to notice and, hopefully, help out. If no one does, then it's fine. Just getting other people's attention should scare the staff off.

Funny thing. I work in an airport and TSA security has these signs on their rope-dividers with different types of cautionary warnings. Film not being able to go through the x-ray, keeping six feet distance in the queue, RealID stuff, etc., pretty standard airport blather. There's this one sign that's unlike the others. It basically states that Manila International Airport is considered certifiably unsafe by the some government department, not just in their security practices but in general.
It's literally the only warning of that kind, printed with the official airport sign border.

That used to be in the news all the time before when people started sharing them on social media. You'll see people get their suitcases in the most fucked up conditions. Some had entire holes on the front like someone took out a pickaxe and started going ham on them, some had entire chunks of them cut off, and then some of the lucky ones just had missing pieces like one missing wheel, a handle, or any other accessory attached to them.
The most advised precaution was to wrap your entire luggage with cling film or any kind of plastic wrap. It's not 100% luggage fuck uppers proof but it helps reduce the chances of your luggage getting fucked up.

I barely trust my country's TSA but I at least know, at worst, they are either just authority abusers or perverts. The shit I hear about foreign airports or horrible tourist fates makes me question why people even want to travel the world.
The fact I can view it as: the worst that can reasonably happen to me with my "always at home life" is someone breaking into my home and shooting me dead, AND FEEL COMFORTED IN COMPARISON is just omega oof. Definitely beats getting imprisoned for most my life or enslaved in a foreign country.

I am very disappointed and ashamed as a Filipino and as a person in general. to say the least.
No, I don't know much about the place nor system and the likes. But, that was definitely suspicious and had plenty of violations with regards to their treatment to the people involved--Mainly Elira under said circumstances--and to the tampered/destroyed items e.g., ruined suitcase.
As much as I'd like to apologize on behalf of the more genuine and good lot here for the unfortunate experience. Apologizing for the transgressions of those rotten eggs feels like giving them too much credit and leeway. Thus I shan't despite wanting to ask for forgiveness, truly.
In any case, I am just ever so glad that all I things considered, Elira was fine still. Really came close to being dragged into a very dangerous situation there, so it seems.

  • @kissena3830
    @kissena3830 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The way this presented is funny or Elira doesn't care too much (idk).
Idk Philippines airports or if they are good But.
This is horror for some flying passengers. The passenger should be able to file a complaint or something against.
    A.) Stealing
    B.) Destruction of property
    C.) Lying?
    D.) Privacy?
E.) Indirect drug muling? Or drug courier.
    This is so sus.
1.) Basement? You either go to the basement if
A.) They think you are suspicious.
B.) The personnel are planning something.
2.) Possibility that they try to destroy Elira's suitcase.
3.) Possibility that they try to make Elira a drug courier? (This is probably the scariest here).
(if you ask why I said this, because why do they insist and insist even if Elira blatantly telling that it is not her pants?)

if something happens, whip your phone out and record. make sure you get their faces.
and make sure to cause a scene if you feel scared. no need to be rude or anything, just yell out "are you trying to scam me?" or something like that. it will get the people around you's attention and make them back off..
also, another comment says they add a ton of locks on the suitcase and add some sort of mark on their things to avoid getting stolen from so probably a good idea to do that too.
