I was there Goldmine 1978 ..... it is a fantastic tune to spin your best mate round the dance floor too.... OMG some of these '70's dance tunes are better after you 'aint heard 'em for an decade ... NAB aged 53 and a COUGAR but still love Jesus best ;D))
The bass and synthesizer in this are truly spectacular. It was 1978..I was 20....Celestion Ditton 44 speakers....Technics SL-1200 deck, Shure v15 Mk3 and Luxman L-31 amp. Musical heaven!
Have this on 12"vinyl and the six million steps on 12" Import i was 19 back then when i first heard these @ room @ the top in ilford essex 62 in 2021 and still sound great on the turn table (record player) to you people out their
West Coast of Scotland 1980 to 1985... Ayr - Darlinton hotel with DJ Trevor Riley.... OMG great times! Plus clubs and gigs with the great "Pure Glass" and "JALN Band" Saltcoats, Kiwi Lodge all nighters, and Glasgow baby....The "Cardinal Folly" club... Born in 63 and been blessed ever since... Thanks to all the gang I knew and all the others I dint know but was lucky enough to share this time with... Wow!
Start of my clubbing years,16 years old when this came out.....cant think of a superlative to describe this,it is that good, wonderful memories of those carefree days,we were spoilt by so many great choons like this, thank God for youtube, transports me back to the days of the Lyceum,Embassy Club,100 club,Americas and Royalty
There has been so many one hit wanders over the years, an artist springs up from nowhere with a world wide smash then dissappears into the abbys, Francine McGee is another one of those, the singer, songwriter & keyboard player who released this club hit in 1978 as a B side to Feelin Good
Amazing track. Just amazing.....it sends shivers down your back. I was 20 in 1978 and had this on 12" after hearing Dave Brown play it down underneath the Ring Car Park in Wednesday's Club, Bracknell. I just had to buy it....played it to death on my Lux L31 amp/Celestion Ditton 44 speakers and Technics SL-1200 direct drive deck. Great days.
I recalled this a year ago while analyzing the instruments used in some of the mellower deep house tunes I was listening to. couldn't find it until today . Still sounds fresh almost 40 years on. QUALITY stands the test of time. mediocre one size fits all COMMERCIALLY TARGETED MUSICAL shite popular music played on the radio in the same era is long forgotten. THE DON SQUAD. ABERCRAVE RAVE CAVE. POWYS, WALES.. FORMERLY LONDON. THANK GOD FOR ROBBIE VINCENT AND RADIO LONDON. They gave this massive airplay.
I have heard (and danced to) ALL the great instrumentals of the time, but this is undoubtedly the best... close second is Mysteries of the World MFSB (or maybe that has a vocal?)
I’d have to put it the other way around and add in ‘Dancing in Outer Space’, ‘Life on Mars’, and ‘Blow Your Head’ if we’re talking strictly instrumentals. It’s what I call the funk 4 + 1 more which includes ‘Brother Green’ and ‘Sweet Power’ but these have vocals.
No sé por qué pero esta pieza en particular me encanta y es que no suena como todo lo común de la música Disco en su apogeo. Sin embargo, no pierde la esencia de ese género. Suena...distinta!
I remember the resident DJ at Dirty Berties in Newquay,Cornwall starting his night with this fantasic song saying what was happening that evening.1978/79.I cannot remember his name, please tell me someone.
Such a classic. Defy anyone not to hit the dance floor for this. Jazz Funk at its best
for the brave and the good

I took my import 12" copy down to the Goldmine in 1978, as Dave Howard did not have it on the Friday night sesh...
You nailed it Nicola!!! Keep on groovin' gal
Goldmine, Royalty. Flix, Purley all dayer, Castor it all comes flooding back with this fantastic sound 👌
What a Club Goldmine,Stage 3,Zero 6,Lacy Lady etc.....

Este tema tiene bases electronicas de Giorgio Moroder...en la intro se escucha el estilo del From Here To The Eternity de 1977 / Moroder.
Lyceum Days in The Strand with Greg Edwards CHOOOOOOOOOON.......
Wow those were the days.
Gosh - yes. I was mostly a Royalty Southgate guy.
Tiffany's Purley....days from another world.... say no more.
So glad I have my 2000+ record collection from back in the day

Me too! the 12" but not in Ilford! Charles Earland Let the music play is brill in that set.
Cool in '78 but super cool now.
Drums were sampled for Chemical Brothers - Under the influence :)
Still effing brilliant .... I remember getting this vinyl so clearly. This was about the same times as Rahni Harris "Six Million Steps" .... Wow.
Six million steps, talk about another gem in this vein. One of my faves
And Charles Earland "Let the music play". Amazing!
@@barbbaker579 Yes - love that one. I think Randy Muller wrote & produced that.
Such a tight arrangement and brilliant musicianship. Mind blowingly good in the clubs in 1978/1979.
Jungle kitten another cracking instrumental for only the bravest of dancers

+baward Ha ha imagine that?
Fuckin bangin choon forgot just how good it was
Francine McGee had little to do with this instrumental. It was just one guy who played all of the instruments. She was only the singer on the a-side!
my jam started dj ing when this came out would play this last song then hit the floor busting my best moves
I was under the influence
this was 7 years ago but I appreciate the fact I'm not the only one here because of that masterpiece of a song.

Life On Mars is my all-time favourite Jazz-Funk album, even above Donald Byrd 'Places And Spaces'. I've listened to it consistantly since 1976.
