My favorite part is how in the start he’s actually going home and then all of a sudden the drunken sadness and rage hits and he starts gunning it. It started so innocent with “keep your eyes between the ditches and ur eyes peeled on the road” and then to speeding and racing the cops. I love it

Those two were the most important people in my life. I have felt like a part of me is missing ever since they left. I love this song but sometimes have to skip it when it comes on my Spotify in the car, because every time I hear it I end up crying so hard that I have to pull over. Thanks for showing others how deep and meaningful Zach’s music is. He gets a bad reputation for some things, but I’ve never had the lyrics of a song hit me so hard in my life. It reminds me that I’m not alone in these dark feelings of grief that I get from time to time, and helped me reach out to do group counseling with others who have been through similar situations.

You were so spot on once you realized Jamie is dead. You actually made me realize a few things. But I want to add, I think the chorus “I’ll go tonight boys, I don’t mean no harm..” is maybe him while he’s in the bar. Maybe he’s being a drunk asshole in the bar and he’s apologizing, he’s only that way cause his wife died. Also, the “103” to me has a double meaning. Yes he probably meant driving 103mph, but here where I live bars close at 1:00. So by 1:03 you’re almost home which is freeing to know you’re about to make it home. To further prove that, he says “a few more minutes before you’re back home”. That’s kind of how I always saw it at least. Great reaction video ! This story is powerful and greatly written.
I think this is his best written song which is saying a lot because he’s released like 105 songs or something like that and there truly isn’t a bad one. Really glad you did this one I’ve been waiting for you to discover it. Can’t remember if you’ve done “leaving” or not yet but I think that’s another one that’s up there for his best written. So with Zach being former service I’m guessing when he says “you’ve always loved the reveille” he is talking about how in the morning reveille is played to mark the flag being raised. And then in the end where he says “you don’t miss the reveille oh Jamie” he is saying you don’t miss waking up.
This would make sense, but I think the actual lyric is revelry in this case, as in loud partying (bar scene). Kind of hard to tell in the lyric though. Your description fits the story very well though!!

Personally I think it’s referring to his speed because the story takes place in Texas, it could also be the 103 highway in Texas but you’d have to do math in order to reach witcha county by dusk, from highway 103 at 434 (sorry I can add the colons for time without time stamping it), so personally I believe it to be his speed down a county road, furthermore I’m not sure how state radio works in the US but for Canada unless I’m right next to the province I am not getting a province next to me radio station.
