Just got recommended your video out of the blue, I liked the beginning but the moment at 3:57 fully sold me on watching more of your content 🔥
6:46 You know what you were doing there didn't ya? 🤨 We all know what the answer actually is 😏
0:53 “Enemies do not scale with your level” oh thank god I hate when games do that. Super excited for this can’t wait
I kind of hope they don't do an "exact word" thing and it's actually the the enemies' equipment that scales with your level. That's what happened in Deadfire but the "quality rating" of this game's equipment seem to be much more significant than in Deadfire.
This was the best new info by far. I'm a little sad we won't have survival mechanics in POTD, but that's what mods are for.
It's weird to me how differently people see this. Personally, I love it when games like this scale because it means the old quests are never irrelevant.
I often find that if I pick up a side quest and put it off for a while, when I come back the quest rewards are now not really worth my time and the enemies are too easy to smash. I have friends who hate this though because they want to go back to the old areas and feel like gods when they blow through the enemies.
@@pjoestar691 I'm with your friends but for the opposite example. I like learning that an area is better left for later by getting my ass kicked by the enemies in it. I hate how enemy scaling essentially makes character progression irrelevant.
@@pjoestar691i'm with you on this one. Deadfire had this great feature that allowed you to scale enemies only upwards meaning that late game areas would still kick your ass but it never stops being a challenge. Even still i think some parts do end up becoming easier if you leave them for later since even if their numbers have been bumped your gear and build are more developed, while theirs are not, and that's also fine by me tbh
This one Interview has done more to sell me on Avowed than most of the actual marketing. Great work!
Came here to say the same thing!
Agreed!
Avowed had actual marketing?
The marketing around Avowed is really weak! Like they are afraid to say much about it!
@@trucid2 Yeah I've literally never even seen marketing for Avowed. But I do have UBlock Origin on my browser out of absolute necessity cause there's so many ads on websites it lags my computer.
"kicking is not your only way of yeeting" incredible sentence
The game cover for a avowed might be the best cover photo I’ve seen in a very very long time.
Its fruity...
@@PuppetMaster-Bladegood 😈
I genuinely can't shake thinking it's ai. it absolutely looks the same way over designed ai pieces do with the little swirls and whatnot
I want to be proven wrong though
@@GetShrekd Nah, it’s not. The illustration seems very intentioned in its composition and depictions. It doesn’t seem like an AI just guessing. The patterns, folds, and individual details all seem to be thoughtfully placed.
@@PuppetMaster-Bladewhy? Because it has a lot of color stfu
Carrie is a rising star at Obsidian imo. I loved the work she and the other writers did on the pillars games I hope Avowed is a success for her. I'm definitely picking it up.
what did she do in pillars? you got me intrigued
@@makiiavely She did narrative design like dialogue and quests for both games, more in Deadfire. Also the companion writing for Aloth, Devil of Caroc, and Maneha.
it'll be on gamepass
@@makiiavelyShe was co-head writer on Pillars 2 with Sawyer and wrote the Pillars 1 DLC
And she's cute
She said the words Fallout New Vegas twice which means Fallout New Vegas 2 confirmed!
Finally someone smart in the comments!
No, you have to say it 3 times before it summons Obsidian to shoot you in the head.
You mean Fallout 3 2 2
@@Umbra2310 you mean the real fallout 3
I just hope they develop another unique Fallout game and not a sequel or remaster of FNV
No level scaling. That's all I need to hear to know Obsidian actually knows how to build (and balance) an RPG.
Why is everyone focusing on this? what RPGs come to your mind that have level scaling? its not open world, you're not wandering into the final area of the game and fighting Ganon at level 1
@@ChichiNaka Yeah, it's weird. No level scaling in this type of game also makes sense because it's not open world but open zone. So you're most likely progressing through the zones via the story and will most likely never come back to the older zones. In a seemless open world world game, where you often might end up in earlier parts of the map again, level scaling makes sense so that you're not fighting boring lvl 1 trash mobs.
@ With all the Mass Effect hype everyone acts like we don't have Andromeda and Veilguard to look at
With this everyone acts like we didn't just have this 'zone' system with Veilguard and we didn't have Outer Worlds, everyone makes up these fantasies for games before they come out when the skeleton is there
everything they've shown off is as cookie cutter as a Skyrim prerelease showcase 'YOU CAN WEILD GUN IN ONE HAND AND SWORDI N THE OTHER!!!!! YOU CAN WALK IN THE FRONT DOOR OR SNEAK IN THE BACK WAY!!!!!"
@andreasheinze9685 it's not really accurate that open zones means you're "most likely" not going to return to zones. There are plenty of open zone games where you get new quests that send you back to zones you've already visited.
It’s not open world so that helps
Honestly, this is quite wholesome. I love how excited she is to talk about the game.
"is this the best preview video of Avowed on TH-cam?"
"Yes "
These two have a 100/100 in vibecritic. Immaculate vibes.
An audible 'oh fuck yes' when I saw a new 'rapid-fire questions' video pop up.
Avowed was not on my radar until I checked this video out. Carrie is charming and confident in their game. I'm here for it.
I love this style of interview. Great work!
somehow this one video made me more interested in this game than any trailer they had shown. the gameplay clips also look great
Man I cannot believe this is a spontaneous interview. 100/100 vibes between these two and the whole video is a comedy goldmine. Watching this content for free feels illegal.
Psyched for Avowed.

Wow, this is probably the best sales pitch for not just Avowed, but a video game in general. Very smooth, Ben -- and Carrie was a great sport. Love this!
Love this interview. I learned more about Avowed than any of the official trailers so far.
This is just so much fun. Charisma is oozing out of both of ya'll and the back and forth was immaculate.
5:46 "Technically six. Maybe. But four." My favorite line out of this. Also, 6:54 Quest for Glory remake by Obsidian confirmed???
This sold me on checking it out. Fantastic interview.
Just a general PSA. If you found Pillars to be a little dry and slow, try Deadfire. It is VERY different and is probably one of the most underrated CRPGs of all time (next to Wasteland 3)
"Enemies do NOT scale with your level..."
*SOLD!*
That was great to hear. So sick of enemy level scaling & never getting to feel like my grinding is creating a gap between me & the enemies.
That's why I never beat a game called the last remnant. The level scaling in that game was bad.
Its not open world though.
@@Joe-ti7qdit's never going to be. It's not Skyrim.
More interviews like this, love it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ben is by far the most skilled / engaging interviewer and conversationalist in the games media space.
This is definitely on the list. Very excited to check it out! Great interview!
Love her passion, her fave games are dope, and the game just looks exactly like the fantasy game I want to play. So good.
Lol. The jokes and the edit is so on point in this one Ben & co
60fps on Series X? Thank God you guys listened. Guess the delay was worth it.
Up to 60 was the key word.
I’m guessing it’s not locked but with VRR display won’t be much of an issue.
Glad they have the option
We are so back
I think she meant Graphical modes, 30 to 60 like the leaks @@JstBringIt90
@@JstBringIt90 Yeah i know, just realized my comment sounded like i thought the game would be 60fps flat. Glad the game now comes with Visual/Performance options unlike some previous high profile Xbox exclusives such as Starfield and Redfall.
@@gabrielmoura7146exactly, some leaks from a playtester states the game has 30/40/60 Fps options.
I need Carrie Patel to know that this interview just convinced me to sub to GamePass to give Avowed a try. The last time I did that was Starfield's release.
These rapid fire interviews continue to be amazing. Fantastic questions from Ben, and loved the responses from Carrie in turn. I'd already been curious about Avowed, but this interview made me so much more interested. Definitely checking it out on release.
Your avatar icon is my favorite poster, ha ha.
MinnMax be doing some cool and fun shit lately
Thank you, tell a friend!
I would love to get a beer with Icewind Dale.
Carrie seems like good fun. I'm getting more and more hyped for Avowed as the release approaches. Gotta finish Deadfire ASAP!
Get ready to be overwhelmed by decisions!
She's fantastic! I'm even more excited for this game now.
This might have sold me, these interviews are great
"It's a composite of the Living Lands and also our primary antagonist" :O
I haven't been following the news surrounding Avowed too closely (though I am super excited for it), so if there's been more info surrounding who the game's mysterious antagonist is that I just missed, that's on me. But, like Ben, I'd just assumed the skeletal figure in the gorgeous key art was basically an abstract visual representation of the player character/protagonist. Heroic pose, fungal infection, tattered garments (which I sort of see as symbolic of the "toll" of adventuring) and the visual of the world itself being fused into their chest-it just made sense.
But we know now that it is, in fact, supposed to represent the antagonist, and while the director might have simply meant that as in "it is a visual representation of the antagonist's nature or motivations", now I'm actually kind of hoping now that it's like, LITERALLY the antagonist's physical form in the world and that we'll be able to see it in-game. It's just so cool of a design that I'd love to see it rendered as a full 3D model and placed into proper context of the world.
I've been following for a while, no news about antagonist rn so this was huge!
maybe the antagonist is the death of the living lands 👀
That's how the antagonist looks literally. She was a minor character in PoE2 and appears in the pre order trailer for a sec.
Carrie is so delightful, and it's clear Obsidian thinks so to since she's been out there so much showing off Avowed. I can't wait to play it. Great video.
Love these rapid-fire questions. And Carrie is great.
So good. Carrie and Minmax are an awesome combination.
1:04 the antagonist?!?! Now you guys made me even more excited
No level scaling is the best thing I've heard yet. Levels will actually matter and aren't just a counter for skill points.
"That's a weird sentence" "It's a weird game!" Well, I'm sold.
Great interview format, really like it and she seems like a nice person. Can't wait for this game
Without minnmax I wouldn't know this game supported 3rd person.
She said they always planned third person but they actually only showcased it last year for the first time. Imho it's a great addition, I will happily swap in third person for exploration and go full immersive FP for combat.
They really need to have Carrie do more interviews, she's great
As someone who has been beating the Quest for Glory drum for literally decades now. I am overjoyed to see someone in the industry actually draw attention to it. Here's hoping someone (worthy) does something with the IP before I'm in the grave.
(Play Rogue to Redemption, believe it or not the Coles are still making games)
Excited for this one!
Thank you for saving my money.
Oh my goodness, this was such a well-done interview.
Rapid Fire is back?! These were my favorites back in the GI days. The GoW one was incredible! Please keep these going!!
Dishonored, Mass Effect, Morrowind? Peak list
I love these. thank you.
Wow! This was so enjoyable to watch! Subscribing!!
I got SOOOO hyped when I saw this in my subscription box! I'm cautiously interested in this game, and these interviews always ask such helpful questions!
Honduras mentioned! (Half Honduran here ;) ) awesome work Ben! Love this kind of content!
Dishonored, Mass Effect, and Morrowind are my favorite games.
This was great, really excited for Avowed!
Carrie is so charming
i honestly have not been paying much attention to this game but this interview has completely sold me on it, will definitely be checking it out
Carrie is an absolute treasure. Very energetic, charming and she doesnt talk down to the audience in these interviews. I love it when she gets into the nitty gritty of game design. Fun stuff
Really fun interview. Awesome work!
My favorite format and one my favorite devteams? Hell yeah
I want the game even more. Now. Thank you for this!
I have to most reluctantly say this interview is very good. Good format too! it gives chance to tell a lot about the game while keeping stuff vague. In normal interview formats I hate when stuff are kept vague and the answer just keeps on going and going. I am highly biased about the game. Love the personality of the director and your questions are also superb.
I remember when I first started watching MinnMax, shortly after the GameInformer cover story for the Outer Worlds. Then I fell in love with ya’ll during the deepest dive for that game. Can’t believe it’s been so long already! Here’s to many more years of Obsidian RPG coverage 🤩
This game wasn't on my radar until I watched the interview, i'm pretty excited now
I'm looking forward to this one!!
I’ll still wait for reviews ( after a few months )
I’m gonna play it when it comes out on game pass. I’m personally writing this reply because I’ll come back here to tell you just how awful or surprisingly good the game turns out to be. I know how many bots exist to glaze games when they first come out so it feels like unless a TH-camr makes a long form video review, there’s no way to tell how a game is until you play it. So I got you homie.
god this was so good. well done
Amazing, so excited to check avowed asap
So glad rapid-fire is back. Hanson is godlike in interviews of all kind.
Amazing interview as always, Ben! Love that the rapid-fires are back. Really looking forward to Avowed!
Oh yea. Forgot about the rumored big Avowed reboot, right around the doom and gloom of Xbox's 2022/2023. We expected this game so much sooner. But, glad it's gotten the time it needed. I hope that pays off! Not sure if we know who had touched the game before Carrie (I just see "several directors/leads"), but it's good that Carrie has been able to stick around and see it through at the very least.
Hyped for the game
"No romance in avowed". That is awesome more games like this please.
Focus on just cool friendships and a genuine team dynamic instead of cringe flirting.
If you can't do romance on the level of Cyberpunk 2077, leave it out and focus elsewhere.
Disagree. I recently noticed that romance is a great tool to make characters feel more human and care for them. All my favourite game stories have romance in them - RDR2, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, KCD… when there is no romance, the story feels shallow and the world feels artificial.
I’m Honduran! Now I wanna play Avowed!
Garrus lover confirmed running the show, I'm in
Garrus's VA is in Avowed, so Carrie MIGHT be a bit biased. 😉
I think this might be one of my favorite rapid fires.
8:10 OMG MORROWIND!! ok I thought I was getting morrowind vibes from the story, imperial envoy sent to a "wild" land full of relatively anti imperial natives(obviously lol)
I think your oh goodness counter goes from 3 to 4 twice
Great interview though! Can't wait to check out the game!
Goodness, good catch.
John Gonzales is back at Obsidian? Oh boy oh boy......that really stirs my massive sign!
I found the video in r/Games and I didn't know the channel or the Obsidian game director, but the interview was fantastic and the director has a cool charm. New sub here :D
Super excited about the answer to what the Pillars fans were looking for - absolutely I'm looking for more of the world to explore and interact with!!
I bought Dragon age age veilgard and was rather let down unfortunately, but she did a phenomenal job convincing me avowed might be worth some faith, very down to earth answers not chauvinistic. Good job
Evil options being confirmed already gives me more confidence in this. Also I enjoy video game romances especially well developed ones like Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, but it is refreshing to not have to worry about that in an RPG cause it does take some time to know what to choose and what not so for this I’ll just wing every choice.
Absolutely goated answers from Carrie on the favorite games question. Dishonored, Mass Effect and Morrowind. Some truly great games and Its hard too think of any games that utilize the first person perspective as well as Dishonored and Morrowind( maybe half-life or Vampire Bloodlines but there aren't many). This gives me a lot of faith that Carrie and her team have made a great first person rpg progression experience.
JANK IN THE TRANK! All-timer from the great Joe Juba
Super excited for this game
I went from super excited at that first announcement trailer to not excited at all at the first look, to somewhat interested at reactions to now I’m like “I’ll definitely check this game out!” 👍🏾
No level scaling is so exiting, can't wait to experiment with different builds on harder difficulty.
4:05 Thank you Carrie. As someone who's favourite game ever is Tales from the Borderlands, I just feel so happy for acknowledging it's underrated.
Otherwise it was really great and fun interview.
Best way to learn a bunch about a new game
Dropping Dishonored as your favorite game, you know she knows her sh!t.
This was such a nice surprise. Obsidian one of the best in the biz!
I’ll be jumping into Avowed on day one via Gamepass, been a while since I looked forward to a game release

Can not wait for this. Even with GP, I'm getting the upgrade to the Premium edition to start early, and still support them as well. With this and MHW's, February is looking so good for gaming.
What a fantastic interviewer. Your energy what great! Can't wait for the game
I hate it when games don’t let you play after roll credits it’s so annoying! I like seeing the effects my actions have on the people/world and how me completing the main story impacts it all
We're not watching an interview we're watching a meetcute
Easily the best marketing for this game so far
great video! cannot wait to sink my time into this!
