  • You bought IKEA bathroom cabinet such as Godmorgon and want to go with non IKEA sink and drain without messing up nice drawers in IKEA cabinets? This video show how to do it. It was inspired by TH-cam user pibalorena ( • Godmorgon IKEA Cabinet... ) and I added more explanation so that any DYIer like me can do it.

Ikea now sell the Rinnen set it for $10. My problem was the sink was not flush underneath -it extended 2 inches ; therefore the drain was too short (less than an inch) and could not connect to the pipe. I will use this method of the angle pvc to connect the drain to the pipe

Great video. I could not install the ikea trap assembly because I am not using ikea sink, and the countertop is too thick for their drain assy. I will try this method.

Because it didn’t have the drawers on - does it allow for clearance of the drawers - hard to visualize without seeing it. I’m currently in this situation trying to figure out how to install my non ikea faucet with their plumbing.

Can you please tell me what pop-up drain you used? A link to it would be great!

Just typical drain set with a p trap. You should be able to find them at any home store. If you are not sure, show this video to employees.

Great video. We are looking at doing something similar. Question: how do you get the Ikea plumbing drains without buying the sink? They would not let me purchase it separately...

Daniel Bertao: I didn't. The ikea plumbing was from a separate sink that I installed in different bathroom. I just showed it here to show that I am not going to use it because I want to install non-Ikea sink, which requires non-Ikea drain.

Trying to do something similar. Just reminder of those people who wants to get IKEA RINNEN system without buying a sink, call IKEA customer services number(not store number) and they will do the rest.

couple things, you cut the hole in the countertop WAY to big, it should have only been big enough for the drain threads to slide through (same size as the sinks hole), the reason for this is that when you tighten the drain you are actual mechanically fastening the sink to the countertop, Also dude, turn your phone on it's side, no one should have to watch vertical video on a widescreen device

Actually it depends on the sink. I bought a vessel sink and they said in the install instructions to cut a 5.5" hole. I thought well that's dumb and drilled the same size hole and installed like you said and it leaked like crazy I tried plumbers putty teflon tape with no success. I know thats how most of the bowl style sinks install and I have installed several like that without issue but not all sinks install that way. I took the sink off and enlarged the hole still not to 5.5" but the key was to get the rubber gasket to seal directly to the underside of the sink and have enough room to tighten the nut and walla! not one drip. 100% silicone to stick the sink to the granite and 24 hours later it was solid as a rock. However I will second the turning of the phone I hate portrait style videos.
