Thank you!! Key piece of information that's been so hard to find is the 4 inch clearance behind the drawers

I know this is an old video but thank you. My husband and I have been trying to install the drain pipes under our new IKEA vanity and it has been quite frustrating…we’ve already had to buy an adapter for the wall pipe and the angle of that top horizontal piece is a nightmare 😂 our vanity conveniently has a shelf in the middle of it that we actually sawed a square out of because of where the wall pipe is located. I didn’t feel like disassembling the entire vanity just to get the shelf out, plus it gives it stability. Anybody who’s installed IKEA shelves know they don’t just sit gently on top of shelf pegs 🙄

Man, God bless you for doing this video!
I'm getting ready to install sink and all that!
Btw, Godmorgon, means Good Morning in Swedish!
    Pronuonced: Goud mohrghon.

Thanks so much for posting this video and solution. That u-shaped rubber hose is totally useless and impossible to connect in any useful configuration. I spent about an hour on the phone with IKEA customer support who advised me that the solution would be to return the sink for a full refund rather than provide a solution.

Thanks for the video. I wish I had seen it before assembling this IKEA stuff because it all could have gone back...

How about a dishwasher tailpiece for the vertical line before the trap for the overflow.

I got my overflow on with some clamps that fit over the hose. Fit it on the sink overflow then screw the overflow into the sink hole. They you can attach to plumbing at the drain fitting. However, that does not solve the problem of slow draining. The problem I think is that the pipe under the sink doesn't go down but back and down. It drains well until it fills with water then is slow. Any solutions? Do you think a small trap fall would help?

Did u have to cut the adapter to fit the hose?

  • @fixerofthings

The reason you had so much trouble with the overflow tube is that the tailpipe to the sink is swung way over to the side because of the extra elbow coming out of the wall. If you had simply glued the compression adapter directly to the drain then the trap would be closer to the center of the sink and everything would have lined up. If the drain had been cut fairly close to the wall the compression adapter and trap would have still been under 4 inches and cleared the drawers.
See this video for an example of how it is supposed to work. th-cam.com/video/w-Zf_DMyd-s/w-d-xo.html

Does your overflow hose stink up over time ?

I'm having a problem that there's not enough space behind the drawers to fit a 90 to the left and 90 down.

What is the price of the pluming pipes and what the name of the kit ? Am having the same problem thanks for your help

By code you aren't allowed to use 90's in drainage like that (2 45's would be acceptable). You could have tied that in with 1 45 on the pipe coming out of the wall and turned the trap towards it and it would have better flow and less crud would get stuck than in that 90.

There's only 3 inches of clearance behind drawers that's why people do it like that if you want the drawers to close all the way. I've seen other solutions with hose clamps which I doubt like either. This who retrofitting thing is too big a Pima

malagabee There are not drawers there..that's a cupboard. Who puts drawers under their sink? I'm in the 4th year of my plumbing apprenticeship and have never seen a sink with drawers directly underneath it. Not sure what you are talking about with hose clamps...you can't use hose clamps to hold drainage pipe together. That's some real cowboy shit.

+crephotos go visit your local IKEA and look for the Godmorgon or look at 0:02 he shows the install manual. It's a known issue that's why there are different hacks. Just search for it on TH-cam. As I said I don't like the hose clamps either but apparently someone likes it enough to want to license the video for it that basically uses a rubber adaptor to couple 2 drain pipe sizes.

      @TRUE_GR1T 8 ปีที่แล้ว

oh you're talking about mechanical joint couplings not hose clamps. I don't think the Ikeas in Canada sell these because there is no way that they are CSA approved. PVC pipe isn't allowed in above ground residential applications either since it releases some pretty toxic fumes during a fire.

Ikea is usually great but their plumbing needs to have a United States type of hook up, not ALL European....
