I personally don’t find the place they stayed at cool at all. Dark and dingy.

I love Venice. I had try the restaurant where you had your last dinner; it was delicious 😋 and we stay at the pink hotel across from the restaurant. I definitely going back. Venice Italy 🇮🇹 ❤

Oh, I have been waiting for your Venice vlog. We spent 2 1/2 days there before our Mediterranean cruise in October of 2019. We loved it! The gondola ride was a highlight for me. I can’t wait to go back! You gave me some ideas for our next visit.

I have just found your channel. Love it! We are heading to Venice and Lake Como the end of April 24-May 6. Would you change your packing any based on weather now that you’ve been? In TX its pretty much summer at that time of the year.
the acqua alta chased us back to our hotel one night but Venice is still so romantic and beautiful at night. All the times we've been there, and I never knew about the Fondaco dei Tedeschi. Fun vlogs

I highly recommend the Donna Leon books, novels about a policeman called Brunetti, which are set in Venice and give you a great overview and history.

The restaurant on day 3 looks gorgeous 😍 but how do you get to and from the table? I would love to book here, but the situation is giving me anxiety 🙃
It’s a right squeeze but it’s definitely doable. If possible, try to book the table closest to the entrance it’s easier to get in and out and they serve the food from the interior window to your table so the servers aren’t squeezing through.

HI Dana, I love you, your videos...and Al! I took your advice for an anniversary trip to the Amalfi coast and am so glad I did! Now, I am taking my daughter on her college graduation trip to Italy. I need your advice - Milan, Lake Como & Venice OR Capri, Positano & the coast??
Awww thank you! Al says hi! I am actually going on a mother daughter trip with my mom to the coast and I know she is going to love it. However, she is going on a seperate trip this year as well with her friends to do more of larger italian cities.
I do think the Milan, Lake Como trip is a great first introduction to Italy and it is much easier logistically to plan but if you have the time to plan a Amalfi Coast trip (it's also more $$$) then I would go there.

What other cheaper options are there to get to the airport other than the water taxi?
Bus, shared water taxi, bus to vaporetto these are a few of the other more affordable options.

Hi! The host of our b&b called for us both times. But if you arrive to a main area like the train station there are stations available for taxis.

Where did you go through to book your gondala ride?
We walked up to the gondolier station that we showed in the video and waited for the next gondolier. So we did it in person on the day of.
Venice’s mayor has announced that the city will try to limit short-term rental options. He said that the city needed to fight not to lose its soul. The council is preparing a new law.
Thank you for sharing this comment. Are you a local Venetian living in Venice? My host was a native Venetian with multiple businesses and a family and shared that they are happy tourism is back. Happy to support local entrepreneurs as an OVERNIGHT VISITOR spending my hard earned money with local businesses who welcome and thrive on travelers who want to support and spend in their beautiful city!! 😃
I am happy that the mayor of Venice has this initiative that they are focused on. However, the issue with Venice has never been short term rentals. The issue has always been day trippers and cruise visitors who put a stress on the city which has been limited as of 2021.

I am not a local Venetian but I live in an Italian city where the same problems start to arise. The "Venice model" is a threat to many cities in Italy (or could be a solution with a different way of management). So I'm very interested in Venice.
Choosing a local owner is a good thing. Especially if the owner has only one or two apartments and lives in the city.
The management of day-trippers and cruise passengers is part of the problem but not the main problem.
In any case, short-term rental restrictions exist in many cities around the world: Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, New York, etc...
Recently a group of Italian mayors (Rome, Bologna, Milan, Naples, Positano, etc.) asked for a law like the Venetian one in their city (in this case government authorization is needed).
The problem is very relevant.
Unesco in 2021 gave up putting Venice on the list of sites in danger following the ban on the passage of cruise ships within the city (actually there isn't a limitation to day trippers and cruise visitors).
On that occasion Unesco also asked for a solution to the loss of residents in order not to include Venice in the list in the future. Among the causes is the excessive number of short-term rentals causing the expulsion of long-term residents.
The issue isn't whether Airbnb is profitable for some people. The problem is whether today it is a sustainable choice.
Right now Airbnb is not considered a sustainable choice for many historical centers in Italy. This is the opinion of citizens' associations and urban planners. Obviously this is not the same opinion as Airbnb...
It is not the task of tourists to address this issue but the choices of individuals can help make tourism sustainable.

How much per person for the gondola?
They do not charge per person. It is 80 euros until 7pm, 100 euro after.

According to our gondolier he said there are currently (2023) two female gondoliers in Venice and they allow women to become gondoliers. He also mentioned that most women do not choose to take on the profession long term or at all.
