    The thing I love is that I feel like there is a very real potential that every color combo is actually dangerous and good. And color combos can be fast or slow and still be good.

      People seem to have already figured out how awesome Preening Champion is. I haven't had one passed to me in something like five consecutive drafts. I guess you don't need to be on the wrong side of Champion into Invasion of Amonkhet very many times to figure out how insane those cards are.

    Weeks later, after watching the set review and then this video one after the other, its clear how much thought goes into your opinion of the cards as you use them. You really came around to the meat and potatoes of the format. You got a lot right at first, and after playing with the set, cards you underrated you came up on, and cards you overrated you realized were bad. A lot of the decks you've built have become the references i use when putting together my own set of rules for deckbuilding in this format. Thanks Alex!

    I think the 17lands speed indicator captures how much of a “concede” rather than “life 0” format this is. Higher cost cards/control style decks can fit so it is a “slower” format, but 17 lands is showing how quickly people can tell that they’re in a position with no room for a comeback and conceding (rather than being beat to 0 life)

    Herbology Instructor I think is a counterpoint to the "don't play expensive transform cards." -3/-3 is a removal spell, often one that can hit anything after combat. 6 mana for free removal spell is solid and 1/3 with 3 life is easily worth 2 mana

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Great callout, I do like that card a lot, partially because the front side is solid.

    • @dickdeoreo

      Yes, it does make sense that one would like this card, partially because of the front. 😬

    I always found that i never had enough stuff to sacrifice when i played redblack sac. If you don't draw your ichor drinker or transform a thalid, you really struggle to get value from the sac outlets

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah 100 percent! This is why I don't love calling it a sacrifice deck, you don't really want to go too deep on that theme because of the issue you mentioned.

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think revelation is a low end playable but not the worst, but I think negate is just too bad. There are some solid targets but decks are pretty creature heavy in this format.

    Why is it on the Untapped gg overlay does Green not feature in any of the “Top Decks”?

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Makes sense to me I think! I don't like GW or GW, and GB/UG are decks that bleed into a different colors splashing so it's hard to accurately categorize those decks on a companion app. Each splahy green deck is going to look different than any other one.

    gnottvold hermit is better than i think you give it credit for. If i have anything on the board, say a preening champion (best birb), i'm totally good with casting the hermit on turn four flip on turn five uh oh look at this mountain of power i'm attacking you with. I feel like its best is actually sooo good even if the investment is scary

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว

      The investment is a massssive hurdle though. For what it's worth, the card is performing very poorly on 17lands, in the bottom 20 percent of all the cards in the set.

    I did 8 drafts. 30% Winrate. out of all my gems and gold saved up for this format. Last time i went 0-3 with 4 preening champions. So far format wasnt fun for me at all (except for the sealed IRL prerelease event). I dont think my drafts are bad, but somehow i end up 1-3 wins. I also hate Invasion of Ikoria, i opened up this battle first pack 3 times. I've had multiple trophies in ONE, and a couple in Innistrad remastered, i dont know what im doing wrong. FeelsBadMan

    • @casparash5370
      @casparash5370 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Could just be a bad run! After playing for 20 years now I have learned not to get disheartened when you run bad a load of drafts in a row. You might win the next 10. Probability, averages and chance and all that blah blah.
      But also just take a step back and try and go Sherlock Holmes on the whole thing.
      What has been going wrong? If it's things out of your control, bad draws bad draft seats etc then don't worry.
      If it's things you can quantify then address them. Did you splash unnecessarily, did you spend to much time on battles did you play into open mana etc.
      Whenever I feel like this I go back and refresh all my fundamentals. Have a general limited episodes binge Alex and LR have loads of content of this kinda stuff and if you haven't listened to all those episodes like 5 times then go again haha.
      Also just have fun out there! If your not having fun take a break. Big love bromeigo 😊

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@videouploader9602 I have been close to mono U and close to mono W a few times. Alara is playable in decks that can cast it, but it's not good enough to pick early then move in. You kind of already want to be in that space and then have it passed to you, it's not like the Kami War from Neo where you could build your whole deck around it.
