    Truly a level-up episode. Up there in all time eye-opening content such as LR's quadrant theory.

    After watching this episode, I went on a 7-0 quick draft run on MTGA which brought me into mythic. I now sit in the top 300 Mythic. Thanks! Cutting Thunderhead Squadron out of my game and using final flourish on turn 2 are helping a ton!

    I've watched the first 20 minutes and the gameplay tips have already paid massive dividends. I had a lurrus of the dream den deck at 1-1 prior to watching and then went 7-1. Thank you so much!

    I like that the "The Draft BLUEprint" is self-explanatory. You take blue. Great episode killing it on this set. Love the very deep dives on some of these things.

    Hey Alex, I stumbled upon your videos about a week ago and they have been an absolute tremendous help! Super knowledable and thanks to them I got to mythic in limited. I was doing so well in draft that I decided to enter the Magic Arena open on a whim and actually just went 4-0 in the 2nd draft of day 2 and cashed! I have no doubt my success was thanks to you and your knowledge of magic and this MOM limited format. My only complaint is I think you ruined easy drafting of blue for the rest of this set haha. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!

    I don't understand when, but I turned around the corner with this set. I started ugly and messy, but now I'm doing a lot better.
    I'm happy to see your Gameplay Level-Up, it's right on time!

    As others have mentioned, this was a great episode, not just for the format, but for fundamentals as well. You definitely had me thinking quite a bit more in regards on how negative transforming at an inappropriate time can screw your game in addition to a lot of other nice niche scenarios which requires you as a player to take a certain risk. Thanks for pointing out some great things and providing your own insight on the format, definitely helped me as a player overall with this one, cheers.

    Hey Alex, great stuff as always. I have drafted the set to what I consider success but haven't played any Sealed. So, with play-ins etc being Sealed I was wondering if you have any intermediate, sealed only thoughts on the format, or things that are really different between Draft and Sealed. Cheers!

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My advice for sealed is play fewer filler 2 drops than you think you might need to. Play all your premium ones, but don’t play stuff like dreg recycler unless you have fewer than 4 twos (this counts cheap interaction)

  • @rcglinski
    @rcglinski ปีที่แล้ว

    Although I mostly already agreed with everything you said, it was nice to have it all put in a package. Really key point is keep up, like, you just have to. A question I would have, though it's maybe not specific to this format, is say in your UB deck your hand is 3 swamp 4 blue cards, or 3 Island 4 black cards, said cards all being quite good. Play/draw probably matters? How much risk are you looking to take? Or as a Lord of Limited the shuffler never does you dirty? I've ran into what seem like really difficult mulligan decisions where a single correct land makes for a very strong hand and it's just confusing.

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually mulligan hands like that. If I’m on the draw and I have an exceptional number of sources to draw to (maybe 10 islands and a land cycler in an otherwise all swamp hand) I’ll mull.

    This is the first set where i hit diamond, diamond 3 even so far! Really surprised how well it plays even though you usually know you eont get far halfway into the draft - less than 3 bombs generally means you'll dry up around 2-3 wins.
    Fun fact : every single 7 trophy deck used blue.

  • @MLC-Gaming
    @MLC-Gaming ปีที่แล้ว

    Had my best draft 6-2, unfortunately that makes me 7-12 atm. A lot of game play mistakes on my part for sure and working on being loose in first round. Always afraid of counters and kill spells. Just uploading the replay now.

    Lol just had a game where I played skyclave aerialist turn 2, into xerex strobe knight turn 3, into preening champion and console zephyr singer, attack with strobe knight and tap to make a 2/2 turn 4 😂

    gloomfang mauler and converter beast are pretty high on 17 lands and they don't really do anything when you play them?

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Both have ETBs! Converter beast creates two bodies, one that’s resistant to sorcery speed removal and one that’s good to chump/sac. Mauler leaves counters around.

    Preening champion over Khenra spellspear pack 1 pick two? Say first pick black bomb

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! Khenra is solid, champ should be taken over everything but the best of the best bombs (especially if you started with a black bomb since UB is so good)

  • @Rhapsdos
    @Rhapsdos ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Assimilate Essence is definitely super slept on. Not even just for its effect but for the tilt factor when it's played.
    I had a draft today and twice when countering a bomb I got the instant concede, and holding 2 mana especially later in the game isn't too hard.

    15:07 I love how in this hypothetical you know you're playing blue.
    I like this format a lot, but it's difficult for me to understand how this could be someone's favorite format of all time (not to call anyone out, but just inviting discourse). The gameplay is really good, but the card and color imbalance is so pronounced compared to other sets with great gameplay. We just had BRO, which had a dynamic drafting process that rewarded creativity since every color had something to offer in a variety of different viable strategies. The gameplay was also amazing with so many meaningful micro decisions every turn. In MOM the draft feels way too on rails. There are two truths to the format: If you're not playing blue, you're doing it wrong, and if you're not playing blue black, you're probably doing it wrong. Red isn't a color outside of Ral's Reinforcements and its removal and bombs, which get snapped up too quickly because of how shallow the color is, and the white aggressive cards are usually ass because of how overtuned blue is (with the exception of some knights that play well in blue white). This isn't to say that MOM is a bad format, like I said I think its great, I just find there to be some glaring weaknesses that what I consider to be the goats noticeably don't have. It is possible that I am missing something, since I am a relatively new drafter who came in during SNC. These are just my thoughts.

    • @limitedlevel-ups
      @limitedlevel-ups  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with a lot of these thoughts, I this is a good format, but aggro being as bad as it is and blue being way deeper than it ought to be are stains on it imo.

      @@limitedlevel-ups I exaggerated a bit with some of my points, but hey, no one cares about cold takes right? Also, I would be interested in a coaching session -- I'm gansettsocks btw. What do would be the best way for me to approach that?

  • @ogolthorp
    @ogolthorp ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a deck with 5 preening champions and a bunch of convoke, that was an easy trophy

  • @daringtraveler
    @daringtraveler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm probably in the minority here, but I now consider atraxa's fall the best green common. My WR with hunger-37%, WR with fall-98%. I think the reason: consider what the limited content creators are calling the best commons and uncommons: tangled skyline, corruption of towashi, preening champion, invasion of amonkhet, xerox strobe knight, realmbreakers grasp, that black phyrexian enchantment, invasion of zendikar. Consider the best bombs: yorion, the black convoke flyer, the blue convoke flyer, chrome host seedshark.
    What one card hits literally every one of those and doesn't require a creature on board? Atraxas fall. The flyers are why arachnoid adaptation is the best WR right now, fall does the same and so much more.
