Hi LOTHAR, we met you in SOCAL at the Cibbets Flat campground where we were with some other hikers and Legend. Glad to see you're hiking this year and look forward to following your adventures!

Many thanks, and Cibbets is one of those out of the beaten track places, but certainly a favorite. Are you hiking again this year ? I will see how far I can get, but certainly going to have to be flexible with the conditions.

@@lothar8194 No, we're not hiking again this year, unfortunately. Will do a little bit of backpacking this summer and be happy watching thru-hikers on TH-cam otherwise!

You may need the ice axe for Baiden Powel too. Good luck. Keep trekking. 😀

Very true - Am watching the weather, and the park closures - but if things reopen in March I may be carrying snow gear solidly from Paradise Valley Cafe, Big Bear and past Baden Powell and trying to see when its worth/safe to shipping forward - certainly going to have to be flexible this year.

Thanks so much for this! Really put my mind at rest and answered so many questions I’ve had lately. I’ve gone back to your 2022 videos and have been finding them super super helpful. Thanks! I’ll thruhiking this year :)

Nice video. Have been recommending to my friends.
Would like to make two comments.
    1. Your water filter can freeze as you hike not just at night. So be careful when it is cold. It can also be useful to invert you water bottles at night.
    2. Some power chargers vary their output depending on the ports in use. I think you 65w only outposts 24w if you use the 2nd usb-c with the usb-a. Any other combination of two or three ports outputs 65w.

Many thanks, and very good suggestions - forgot the filter freezing can also occur when you are hiking - especially in the current weather conditions. Agree, the different ports of power plugs and Watts can vary, depending on the specific circuitry and ports used at any given time, and so I spent time testing my fast charge devices from zero to max to see what worked best. All the best.

You could do the CDT instead.I have hiked both trails and live in Col.Our snow pack is about normal and should be passable by mid June .Most PCT hikers will not do a thru hike this year.

Awesome reviews. Do you consider the battery pack indispensable on the PCT?

Apologies for the delay in responding over the holidays. You will have periods away from towns that make a power bank indispensible. Look at the 10k Nitecore power banks. Some people carry one or two - and if you carry a camera in the Sierra you will certainly need one. All the best.

Lothar, for quilt drafts, the system that Katabatic uses has little cords that snug around your sleeping pad, and their quilts clip onto the cords and stay in place, even if you roll around. I like to keep the clips slightly under my torso so I have no drafts at all and it feels cozy to have the quilt next to me. The first night I used the quilt I didn't understand how to use the clip system correctly and I had drafts. Then I re-watched the video a few times until I got it down. Perhaps it is possible to fashion something similar for your quilt. Without drafts you can be more comfortable with a higher degree rating (and lighter quilt). th-cam.com/video/dOyAAvOez_U/w-d-xo.html

I had a similar learning pricess and the Enlightened Equipment quilts have a similar pad quilt clip system and it does work, but i have been told i play a full soccer match when i sleep - basically i move around A LOT, so I believe its the main reason i sometimes open up a draft. I think next time i get a quilt i will get the ‘wide’ option so i can toss and turn more easily.
