I got my Duncan MacRae bagpipes from McCullum this week. Another brand new and rot in hell they are a little bit bright because they're brand new and not been broken in yet . And I got them from Henderson Imports professionally set up and everything needed. They have selbie drone reeds in . they play sweet easy to tune. love there sound I have a McCallum solo chanter

I would just wish to hear any of the modern greats play in person. I'm a "TH-cam" fan of Angus MacColl's playing. The economy of his hands is something to learn from.

Oops sorry I meant to say the wrong thing on here sorry. But I am going to enjoy my Duncan MacRae bagpipes by McCallum I've been playing bagpipes 20 years my first thought that I have learned on our retired them they're here at home they are Gillander& McLeod they have a great sound but with the big bore the required lots of air to keep the pressure and Pitch up.

Suffice to say Angus would never play these ever again. Typical mass produced garbage.

So are MacRae's a more mellow sounding pipe,or are they say, louder,or richer like a Henderson or Robertson...

+Mark Lamont I, for one, would not, and could not give a definitive answer to that: there are so many variables. Take into account the strength of each player's (of each make of pipes) chanter reed (which determines pressure), combined with the various types and makes of each of the drone reeds (many players will have two or even three different ones) - you'd need a scientific study utilising accurate machines to measure and record volume and tone: one could not depend on the human ear - one man's 'mellow' would be another's 'rich' etc. ! Added to that, there'll be pipers reading this, saying "He knows nothing !" !
