  • Today's breakout hit console and PC video games require massive fleets of game servers to reach a worldwide audience. Google Compute Engine provides the scalability, performance, and low latency required to meet the demanding requirements of game servers for today's hit games. Based on experience performance-tuning multiplayer games at scale, Google has designed new instance types specifically for gaming workloads. This talk will focus on leveraging these new high-speed CPU types to power the most demanding physics-intensive game experiences. Combined with Google's open-source gaming technology, these new instance types provide a foundation for scaling massive global multiplayer experiences. Real-world examples will be provided from customer / partner participation in the discussion.

Most of time they deploy servers on west and east coast only. Usually they don't have server in the middle of the US, you will get about 50ping trying to connect to either east or west server. Cross coast connection is usually about 85 ping.

38:36 Sorry what? Stadia and game servers on the same network doesn't decrease latency... You're still transiting the internet to send inputs out and get that video signal back from the stadia service. In fact I'd say the perceived latency would be even larger since you'll have a minimum latency of input traversal to the server, and then video traversal to the player, before you'd get feedback on what your input just did. Not to mention you go from 20-200kbps for a typical game's bandwidth, to 2-10Mbps for high fidelity video feedback from the service. The only benefit to stadia is the low upfront cost to the user and not having to worry about upgrading hardware. Not worth it imo.
