    T6 was a big moment for me when stepping up through ships as a new player. I remember being joyous that I could finally haul so much cargo with a decent jump range and how well it handled despite all that extra weight. It was the first ship I owned that felt truely purpose-built without compromising for the sake of compromise. The Type-6 is nothing special on the surface, but I like to think that those people sick and dying saw it as nothing less than an angel of mercy delivering life-saving medical supplies when everything else was too self-important to bother. It might be a cardboard box, but maybe that's all it needed to be.

      It's the first all round vessel that isn't just a fighter being repurposed for something that isn't fighting. It doesn't look glamourous but that's the savings you make for just 1 million credits

      Exactly how I feel. The Type 6 is what brought me into the game. I felt like I was influencing things, it was spritely enough to enjoy flying around, had big windows to see things. Perfection for where and when you get it. It's not a Python, but it'll always be my first love.

    Type 6 is an amazing low cost explorer. She's a fine tool, and the ugliness is part of the charm. I have several T6s, one's a Fuel Rat ship and it's good enough to keep up with the Asps and other rescue ships. And for a tiny fraction of the cost.

    you do a great job making these ships all seem more different than they really are. in reality i wouldnt put it past some cmdrs to actually forget which ship theyre flying from time to time. presenting each ship like they have a unique personality takes good writing skills and it makes me enjoy these videos more than playing the actual game lately. 👍🏻

    The T6 is an ugly old workhorse with a heart of gold. She's ideal for smaller Allied tier cargo missions and the annoying cargo runs most engineers want to unlock them. Best of all, she dances through interdiction compared to other cargo haulers and costs peanuts. I've got nearly every ship in game but I still pull out my T6 and fly her because I just enjoy her practicality and flight characteristics. Mine's engineered up to 50LY jumps and feels like a Ford Transit that got rebuilt and tuned by Ferrari.

    I doubt my story is that much different, but I primarily played as a cargo hauler and after getting the hang of things with the Cobra was saving up for the Python, since as a newb, I hadn't done enough research into the various ships. I by accident found a post and found some of the core websites, and after doing research realized I not only had well beyond enough for the Type-6, but to A-rate virtually all of the key hardware already and afford rebuy. So stopping in, I bought one with no trade in, figuring I could always sell it back and keep going in my Cobra. I don't recall exactly, but I think at the end of the next play session, I had made back all that I had spent on the Type-6 and then some. But I was making good money, having fun, and really enjoying "Astrotrain", though laughably one of the few instances I failed an interdiction resulted in me getting the bounty on the interceptors; I was in a system I regularly visited for contracts and the system authorities were really johnny on the spots, so they nailed them as I just ran for it, but since I tagged them with my tiny little pulse lasers when I did my turn and scoot, that was enough, I got a share of the bounty when the Authorities killed them before I jumped away. Before I had raised all the funds to purchase and upgrade, I met other players/friends and was convinced to buy a Krait mk II (which was pretty much brand new at that point) and that became the ship I loved, but the Type-6 to me will always be a good workhorse.

    I love my T6. I saw a cargo mission that would require 4 or 5 runs to deliver with my Cobra, and thought to myself "I think it's time I buy something with a bigger cargo hold". I bought my T6 (third ship ever, at this point), and was absolutely blown away. I play in VR, and I couldn't stop giggling about how big and beautiful and open the inside was. I was finally back in the middle of the cockpit (curse ships with two front seats, let me sit in the middle!), and there was a MASSIVE dome in front of me to look around out of. Everything felt spectacular from inside there.
    I'm sure I have other amazing ships to see out of on my journey, but I thought I'd share my utter joy with the T6.

    I like the T6 for exactly the reasons you said you don't. It does feel like driving a forklift, or a truck, something industrial anyway. I have fond memories of running the Lave/Witchaul rares circuit and lots of smuggling too. Mine had A rated thrusters and power distributor. It had bigger shields than standard too, it served me well as a blockade runner. I sold it to buy an AspX, which is a ship I like as well, but I regretted selling my T6. I have a new one now, built more or less the same way as my old one, just waiting on engineering. Once it's properly engineered I'll stuff it full of drugs and guns and fly it like I stole it to make a mediocre profit.
    Side note about the T6, if you see some CMDRs racing Eagles and Vipers around a station and you feel like you have to join in. Don't follow them under the rings that go around the hangar part of Orbis and Occelus stations, it doesn't fit.

    Adore my T6. It's not my most regularly used hull (that's the Cutter) but for quick flyaround or courier jobs, I go to that rather than the AspX, Eagle or Cobra Mk III. Thrusters are so responsive, it's like Bambi on ice trying to swat a fly. But it's just great fun. Can carry a reasonable cargo load. Has the slots and the ability to do other stuff too. It's a hauler but its more. It's just like the old Ford Transit van. Multipurpose and you'll use it till it falls apart but then you'll lovingly try and rebuild it from spares.

    Really loving this ship so far. Had it for almost 4 days now. Exploring and hauling missions are what I am enjoying so far, and this ship does both wonderfully. Even the high value hauls where I get interdicted 2-4 times on the way to the stations. Agile enough to escape all of them so far, and I'm doing the 5-7mil value hauls that sometimes take 2 trips or more. Jump range is great for beginner exploring and Road to Riches. Made 60 mil+ in the last 3 days while doing the slow version of Road to Riches(Scanning EVERYTHING and learning as much about exploration as I can in the process) and hauling when I need a break from that. And that's with not that much play time(I work 12-14 hour days). When I started this game I was afraid my little play time would hurt me. Not so far lol. Especially thanks to this ship. Trying to talk myself into a Keelback right now so I can start learning combat a little more.

    I started playing Elite: Dangerous in the last week or two and I was so overjoyed when I upgraded to a Type 6. I feel like I'm actually living the space truck life and it's got the versatility to do courier and boom time deliveries to small outposts. It's maneuverable enough that I've been interdicted just once by NPC pirates. It's a bit dull and straightforward but I *love* my Type 6. I'm really torn on upgrading to a Type 7 right now. I know that a Type 7 would mean a proper trade ship and a lot more income... but I love my Type-6 so much that changing out before I manage to grind up to the Imperial Clipper seems like a *downgrade* for some reason.
    I love my baby. Thick With Two Cees has delivered food to a famine wracked system, hauled 100 tons of silver into Cubeo, run away from pirates, delivered medicine, and everything in between. Leaving her behind feels like it would be *mean*.

    The thing to remember about large jump range ships is that these ships make short jumps using a lot less fuel... so flying economically with a ship with a huge jump range means more jumps per fuel tank load. :)

  • @DEFkon001
    @DEFkon001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own a number of ships in Elite, but the T6 isn't one of them. But I do agree with your assessment of exploration.
    I recently took a trip out to Sag A* for the first time and while I did it in DBX, I set my route to economical rather than longest. It was a multi-month trip and purely by range not a single record was in danger of being broken.. but what surprised me was that on such a well traveled path by many an explorer before me.. I encountered only 7 systems in total that had another commanders name on them and they were mostly at the center. Good for me too. About half way out I found a delicious patch of unexplored systems filled with Earth likes, water balls and terraformables.
    I'm now convinced the best way to explore is ride the highway out of the bubble pick a spot and just start mapping all the locals in some sector. When your done you can just ride the highway back and be home without spending 50% of your trip on the return.

    Great review as always, I had the same problem with the T6, couldn't find a reason to like it, and eventually traded it in for a Keelback that I still have to this day.

    • @foldionepapyrus3441
      @foldionepapyrus3441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I do very much love the Keelback (its actually my favorite ship in the game I think (just don't let the Gunship, Couriour and Cutter hear me say that)) the T6 is a really pretty neat little box, that is dirt cheap and if you want it to can fly more like a SLF than a trader. I can't find any reason to dislike it, you can just outgrow it quickly, or want to be a serious combat or race pilot in which case why did you pick a T6 in the first place? Still have mine, first ship I took significantly beyond the bubble - ran long range passenger missions on one with no shields, and undersized thrusters for that max jump range. Made landing on all the interesting planets huge fun only did a few % hull damage on the whole trip but it makes you nervous having even a tiny bump be meaningful damage (before AMFU and repair limits existed - so careful was the order of all long range trips)!

    T6 is the first ship I bought after doing hundreds of courier missions in my Sidewinder. Getting the T6 and looking under the hood I suddenly realised it was a key to almost all of the games content at an incredibly low price. Exploring: Yes you can get this brick up to 50lys and the cockpit is very open making those views much better, Mining and Trade: I've gotten this ship up to 90 tonnes if I remember right, sure there's no shields or armour but you could carry every gun in America.

  • @thaddeushamlet

    Taking on wing delivery missions in a t6 for the fed rep so I can visit Sol, realising the mistake I've made and debating taking the shields off for the extra tonnage.
    Not nearly as long ago as it feels, but fond memories all the same.
    Maybe I should take mine out for a tour of the cradle, she never did get to see it since I immediately hopped in my dbx when I got the permit.

    The Type 6 is the best exploring ship i will ever have. I'm a noob in ED because i started playing in October 2023. Since then i have 640+ hours playtime and i can assure you that roundabout 150+h are in the Type 6 now. My "Jumpin' Jack Flash" is painted in bright orange and i love it to go exploring and do exobiology. He is small enough to land practically everywhere, jumps about 53+ ly and with my new engineered thrusters (338/528m/s) i can easily outrun thargoids when i accidently step over them. I also made my first billion in exobiology with him a few days ago.

    • @ThePilot_
      @ThePilot_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly? I still prefer the Type-7 for evacs. Not just for the larger space, but because the pitch and yaw are identical, and it makes landing the thing in a fiery hellstorm a lot easier.

    Before I knew anything I decided to take my type-6 and go visit one of my favorite nebula, the crab. Without optimizing, without planning I just did it...in a type 6...and it was amazing. Could I have some it faster or better in another ship? Of course...but now that I have better from all my exploration data...I keep going back to my type 6, the Forlorn Renegade...because it's my best ship without trying. Like you said...the type 6 just does.

    the type 6 was the frist ship i got out of the starting area, it was cheep and made me a LOT of money. the T6 is the "learn to fly a larger ship" before you eventually hit the T7 for the large ships. the view you get while flying is amazing and i used the T6 for a LOT of cargo runs then i got the keelback as my first miner. you cant hate the T6, sure its ugly and missing a couple side panels, but it is a great ship for early game.

    The T-6 is great for what it is. Sure, for those of us who have been out long enough and have stacks of money to burn, a Python will do everything a T-6 can do and more. But for someone just starting out, the T-6 is the first ship to get you moving serious amounts of cargo. Many would-be space truckers have cut their teeth on the T-6, and that's what it excels at: being the gateway to opening up trading for the relatively new pilot.

    I liked that ship as a new player.. I could barely afford it and was so tired of the hauler being able to hold so little cargo.. When I got this, it's where I learned the basics of this game. First time flying with flight assist off, learning and getting better at docking on my own! Making decent money to buy all the ships that helped me step up my game! Meeting the first engineers and learning to land on planets.
    It's not a good ship for an experienced player, but for a new player, it's an excellent cheap ship allowing you to make good money for unlocking a bunch of other ships!

    Not a bad ship to "rent" as a U-Haul when you need to do some reputation grinding and don't feel like going all the way back to your home port to fetch your Python or Conda or Type-10. Nice that it's cheap. I sold mine as soon as I was done with the grind, and I don't think I've thought about it since.

    I went from a Cobra MK3 to the T6 when I started doing the original rare trade routes. It had three major pluses (all prior to engineering, which was not a thing in early 2015): jump range was decent, speed / boost speed was very good, and it carried way more rares than the Cobra. I absolutely loved that ship, but sold it to buy an AspEx eventually. Might have to grab one again for old time's sake.
