We still have a 467 haybine in the barn and it has less shields and doors and way more grease fittings. Somewhere around 25 to 30. Yours must be several years newer.
What we do is cut the reverse(outside) round after a few normal rounds. Makes it easier to gauge where to drive since your tractor wheel mark shows where the field edge is, and you can use the "second" round for guidance. Little idea for you!
Always cut the outside round last, that way if you hit something and tear something up the majority of the field is cut and you can get the hay up that you’ve cut .

@@boehmfarm4276 Well, that mower/tractor combination makes REALLY nice corners... for the rest of, particularly with 3 point mounted disk/drum mowers cutting at 6 mph (or more depending on how smooth the ground is) we usually have to go back and make a zip out from the center strip to the corners and back anyway... then make the last strip, do the corner opposite the gate, then back to the center and out to the corner at the gate, then do the last round... works like a champ. A disk bine has crop lifters on the turtle's. They spin so fast it will create a vacuum and lift the crop, even going in the same direction as the down crop.

Used to run one of those. Hated that damn thing. You have much better luck with yours. We pulled it with a 1466 Black Stripe (Long live the Black Stripe!) and we had to fix something on it all the time. Had one of the bar type balers too. That thing wasn't worth a crap either. Was so glad when the boss bought a Deere baler and a discbine...
It's all in maintenance. I keep the guard clearance tight, sharp knives in it and grease it. If I didn't do any of those things, it could be a real pain to mow with.

The yellow guide bar on my 472 is more bent than yours. Very tricky driving the haybine against obstacles like fences and power poles. It always looks like you have plenty of clearance . I hate backing up, but once or twice a season I have to. I learned early on to shut down the PTO and raise the head before hitting reverse.
@@boehmfarm4276 Have you changed your power steering pump internal filter?? Could be lack of flow or air bubbles... Otherwise probably the hydraulic assist valve fluttering-- maybe too much play in the steering mechanism (which moves the valve to send oil to the cylinders) causing the flutter... Is there an adjuster, setscrew and locknut on the housing anywhere?? Sometimes there's some mechanism to snug up the backlash and take extra play out of the steering gear. Might be worth a check. yeah looked like yellow nutsedge, but not quite... Yellow nutsedge has a triangular stem and is very waxy, with a yellow sprangled panicle like that... @@boehmfarm4276 Yeah they say that hay cut later in the afternoon has higher Brix (sugar content) because the plants have been photosynthesizing sugar all day and storing it, part of which will be used overnight for the plant's normal metabolism. So the lowest sugar content of the day is early in the morning right when the sun comes up. Course NOW I've heard some nutcase horse people wanting "low sugar" hay because they overfeed their horses and they get fat and start having blood sugar problems... Lord help you if you get THAT type of customer! LOL:) OL J R :)

Why you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS double-check and regularly CHANGE the gear oil in those FWA hubs and differential... otherwise they get real expensive real quick. Also he was doing heavy work with a full set of front end weights and no rear weights, and no fluid in the rear tires... NOT GOOD... throws too much load on the front end because of too much slippage on the rear end. That and what looked like low oil in the hub= hand grenade. Later! OL J R :)

No offence intended, but your mower is way too complicated. Disc mowers will cut wet or dry grass, obstacles like rocks do little damage. More horse power is needed to drive them, but you can travel a lot faster. High second in your tractor would the gear you would use all day, a dual power gear box gives you more options.
These little ford's roll. High 2 has some speed, like a little too much for field turns. I only have issues with short, thick hay, like mowing an overgrown lawn and wet second cut. This mower has found it's share of surprises. It helps that it has the stub guards.
Yeah I almost never cut less than 6 mph, which is 6th gear 1900 RPM on a Ford 5610S... handles it like a dream. I use a 7'-2" cut Zweegers CM 212 drum mower, but I've also run a 5610S for a friend with a 9 foot Kuhn 3 point disk mower, and again, ran at 6 mph all day long without any problems... only time I cut slower I run at 5 mph in super-thick short bahia, which is REALLY hard to cut and can overload the drive belts (bahia dulls blades fast too-- I HATE the stuff because it's not very palatable, doesn't yield that much, and even when cut and put up in prime condition STILL is about the last thing the cows want to eat...) That's a rare occurrence however. I can cut 8 foot tall haygrazer or waist deep dallisgrass almost too thick to walk through at 6 mph all day long. Later! OL J R :)

Damn, maybe had bad luck with it due to running 140 hp tractor on a mower that runs great with 70! Gotta run what you got though for sure

No, just after the rain that day, or in general after all the animal care and picking sweet corn. So it tends to not be early.

Cutter bars on disc mowers can be a headache. The haybine will save a day on drying the hay too. There’s good and bad to both machines.
