      I absolutely love variegated plants but a thai constellation is one that i will probably never get lol.
      I saw a video and apparently they all have some kind of rot disease, which would explain why they just randomly decide to die.

      Okay, IF this fails... please stop being so fussy. Try ignoring "the experts". Look at how how well it does in straight moss. So, why not try leaving the original moss alone? Instead, simply getting a larger pot with more moss until it is way bigger & _much more_ established?
      Remember, all the experts in the world do NOT have your exact location, humidity, lighting, caring time etc..
      Your plants are beautiful. You see for yourself the results with straight moss, right? Why are you "fixing" what ain't broken?
      Okay, okay, if you just can't grow it in moss alone & just add your other media in on top of it. The moss helps protect the roots from drying out too. I'm preaching to the choir saying this to you. You know this already, LOL. Just stop listening to the others, follow your heart & your head full of decades of growing. Woman, YOU DO YOU. And, I _betcha_ it'll work far better than all of theirs! 🤗💕💕

    I've found that monstera really don't like to be wet when they're not thirsty and they're never fckn thirsty. I hardly ever lose plants (and now have about 4 monstera) but my first one also died after a single watering that it never drank.
    I pretty much use orchid mix for monstera and begonias now, mostly Lyca, perlite and mulch and I just liquid fertilize to compensate. I think they're used to heavily mulched jungle soil that never completely dries but doesn't really hold any water either.
    PS. Root rot can be contagious, just a PSA.

      @@JessicaSugarTankLarson I do not see a downside to being more conservative, though, I’ve never experienced any negative effects using this ratio. Yep. As a result this is why they have issues. They're all descendants from the same tissue of that plant, resulting in all of them being prone to rot. They basically already are infected. The process to restart and recreate Thai cons with a healthy plant would be extremely tedious and costly though, and if that successfully happened the subsequent plants sold would be priced way higher because of their health compared to this version. I want one so bad but am not willing to eat the loss if it rots on me

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So MOST of the time I try not to disturb the root ball. Some plants are more sensitive than others when doing that. Unless the soil or substrate is bad or there’s pests, I just plop the thing into a bigger pot.

    When you live somewhere tropical and hate water 😅

  • @BearMarie96
    @BearMarie96 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When growing in moss do you left it completely dry out before watering again? All the Tropical plants I’ve grown in soil have had serious root rot cause it’s not draining well enough so to save them I’ve transferred to leca and moss, the leca I keep a little water in the bottom under the roots but the moss I’ve been experimenting when to water but I’d like to know what you do!

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I don’t use moss a lot when propagating. When I do, I generally keep it moist. HOWEVER, for this TC, I did let it dry out a bit just because I know these are so prone to rot. However, all other plants propagating in moss, I always keep it damp/moist.
