- What if we actually pulled off a Green New Deal? What would the future look like? The Intercept presents a film narrated by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and illustrated by Molly Crabapple.
Set a couple of decades from now, the film is a flat-out rejection of the idea that a dystopian future is a forgone conclusion. Instead, it offers a thought experiment: What if we decided not to drive off the climate cliff? What if we chose to radically change course and save both our habitat and ourselves?
We realized that the biggest obstacle to the kind of transformative change the Green New Deal envisions is overcoming the skepticism that humanity could ever pull off something at this scale and speed. That’s the message we’ve been hearing from the “serious” center for four months straight: that it’s too big, too ambitious, that our Twitter-addled brains are incapable of it, and that we are destined to just watch walruses fall to their deaths on Netflix until it’s too late.
This film flips the script. It’s about how, in the nick of time, a critical mass of humanity in the largest economy on earth came to believe that we were actually worth saving. Because, as Ocasio-Cortez says in the film, our future has not been written yet and “we can be whatever we have the courage to see.”

As well how are the costs for the precious metals involved in lithium battery construction going to not only be had for such a huge battery bank facilities but also absorbed?
There are a multitude of variables that are not being discussed with concerns to alternative energy sources and what it will take, if we were to do away with the use of fossil fuels for energy and transportation, to keep every house and building electrified as well as providing the demand of electric cars and high speed rail going.

I agree that some of her goals seem unrealistic, but the fact is we have 12 years to radically change the way our economy works. Climate change takes more than just individuals recycling more, it is an institutionalized issue that requires radical national change. She is one of the only politicians I have seen that is taking this issue seriously and is actually trying to come up with a solution that could fix the issue. You are all criticizing her ideas, and some of you have valid points, but none of you are suggesting alternative solutions that could actually save the climate.
Okay, how about nuclear energy? It already provides a lot of power to the US, more than any other non-fossil fuel energy source. It's been around for awhile, so we know how to integrate it into the grid and can do so quickly. Aince this country puts so much money into the military anyway and nuclear power plants can technically be seen as a homeland security hazard if any other country targeted them with a missle, we could justify using military funds to solve that initial problem and fund a bunch of other research into nuclear safety. We can also put money we currently use on energy into figuring out how to neutralize the radioactive waste. I believe this could be done quickly. Not in 10 years, but maybe 20. I don't believe the GND can be done in even 20 years, personally, but nuclear should be faster. There's my other solution. Love it or hate it (or just have reasonable criticisms), you can't say I don't have plans that I think or more realistic and would work better than Cortez's resolution.

And any of the Civil Conversations interviews conducted by Krista Tippett. And "YES" magazine. Nourish yourself and build your strength. We need to be there for this movement in any way we can.

That'll pay for maybe one year of this ambitious project. What next? Well then, they say, let's tax their businesses instead! Forgetting entirely of course that the only reason those businesses run at all is because they're profitable. Take away the profitability and you take away the reason the rich have to run said companies. They'll buy out or close shop. They don't NEED the money those businesses provide, they're already rich enough to stop making a single dollar today and still have their family and descendants taken care of for generations.
Know who does need those businesses? The public. The working class. The government. US.

Have you looked around? There are preciously few people like that around. I'm glad you found someone to inspire you, just remember though that every politician has an agenda. I would encourage you to look more into some of the cons of the "green energy". For example, no one (including AOC) really talks about how the wind turbines and solar panels take tons of resources to make (some of with are rare earth metals like lythium for the batteries) and also tend to have shorter use lives than more traditional energy sources. To get those materials we would need to mine more in more remote locations, and then clear more room for them in/around cities. Not to mention that because you can't store the energy made very efficiently, some places will have excess energy while others are in blackouts because the wind did not blow that day or it was cloudy. I think no rational person would argue against trying to make the world cleaner, but the ways proposed by people like AOC have many more cons and complications than they let on when you actually look at what it would take to put their "plans" in place.
