    Yeah Kent makes a good point about dust in the prism/viewfinder: Dont let it bother you its only visual and it has no effect whatsoever on your photos. Everybody who is an active photographer will at some point get some small dust particles into the viewfinder. You can just imagine how much dust in the viewfinder there can be in a pro camera after several years of good professional use. And if you send it in to the service center they might be able to get the dust out but be prepared after a few months you will have dust again. Take care everyone, Michael

    Hi Kent, I thought I would drop a note here. I found this video you did when doing a TH-cam search for 'D850 eyepiece viewfinder cleaning'. Your explanation of where dust could be collected was informative but I was simply interested in the viewfinder eyepiece itself. The part that we put our eye up to repeatedly when taking pictures. Oil, sweat and dirt from our skin can collect on the viewfinder eyepiece itself. At the time I also wondered if there could be dirt on the inside of the viewfinder eyepiece by the way it looked just examining it with the camera in hand. I also noticed that my eyepiece lock switch area was dirty.
    What I ended up discovering was that on page 9 of the D850 user manual the viewfinder eyepiece is discussed along with how to remove it and the process is simple. The eyepiece lens removal process simply involves closing the eyepiece shutter and unscrewing (lefty loosey) the eyepiece lens. My eyepiece was dirty only on the outside, it was oily dirty and isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip handled it, the shutter lock switch track and the whole outer ring (with the eyepiece removed) very well. It was quick and easy.
    I thought also that maybe somebody else looking for the same info I was looking for might benefit from this comment.

    I used a blower to clean my 60D viewfinder and then I made a scratch on it. So, people, be careful.

    Spot on Kent.
    I have the same problem with my camera and as you say, it's more of an annoyance than anything else.
    The dust, or as it seems with my camera, a few very fine hairs can be seen but I just 'look past it' and it's fine.
    Keep up the great work Kent, it's always a pleasure to see your work and to watch your tutorials.

    I faced the issue and was hunting around for proper wisdom on the same. Did the steps you mentioned but the speck didt go away. Fortunately it s a tiny one on the corner of my canon dslr and not on the sensor. That's so much relief !! Thank you for the wonderful video.

    On a DSLR, the dust particle could also be on the focusing screen. The focusing screen can be removed to replace/clean on many DSLRs.

    I used a blower to try and get dust off the focus screen and ended up blowing more junk into the pentamirror. It’s so aggravating. I suppose I’ll deal with it since I have an inexpensive dslr. Thanks

    Thanks Kent - I was lost as to what to do, had cleaned the lens, filter, and mirror, even the sensor but could not move the dust particle, using the bulb blower on the view finder mirror did the trick - very useful and saved me a service fee

    I have dust in viewfinder of my new Canon 6D after 3 trips with it & no lens changes..
    So irritating..
    I had a Nikon D90 for nearly 8 years, used it loads, & it's still perfectly clean. :-/

  • @yerbolyespol
    @yerbolyespol 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Please do not touch your focusing screen with anything.
    2-3 small particles will never ever affect your image, just relax and keep taking pictures.
    I had an old Nikon D2Xs long ago with a lots of dust-particles on the focusing screen. I went to the local digital photography shop and asked the guy how to clean it. He took his Giotto rocket blower and blow to the focusing screen section. Much dust was removed but 2-3 left.
    Even professional cameras as D5 and D6 have dust, it is normal because dust is everywhere.
    Just keep your sensor clean and do not worry about particles in the viewfinder.

    I have this happened to me. After a week the little sometimes go away as the mirror flips up and moves. Tip put camera in CH mode ..continues . high at about 1/50 shutter speed and press shutter and just move the camera as you shoot
    The shutter flicking back and forwards will move the dust to the bottom of the box ..then repeat the cleaning from there with dust blower

    I was worried about doing anything inside the camera body but sure enough with a flashlight I could see a tiny speck of dust on the prism. It wouldn't just blow off but a small swap (in a camera kit) wiped it right off. Good as new! Thanks!

    There are 2 focusing screens in the 50d. I am aware and have already changed out the one lower focusing screen but I am unsure what the official name is of the screen with the focus points on it that is closest to the viewfinder. By chance do you know the part name? Thank you

    I used a blower but there was even more dust afterwards.. In the camera store they told me it's on the focusing screen.. How come you didn't mention that in your video?

    • @TimMer1981
      @TimMer1981 ปีที่แล้ว

      The focusing screen is at the bottom of the prism: it separates the prism from the mirror box. So both Kent and the store are correct.
      And if there was even more dust afterwards you either didn't keep the camera pointing downwards to allow the dust inside to fall out during the use of the blower or you did so in a room that was too dusty.
