  • OK, so I am loving having a Pionus Parrot! He is easy-going, sounds wonderful not squawk he - and is semi-independent. That means that he likes being with me but isn’t demanding of a lot of my time and attention.

    I had a pr of white capped pionus. Bought them from a breeder. Totally feather picked. I built them a 6ft long by 5ft high, & 4ft deep cage. It was in my bird room. I put a bird box in there. They had babbies. Even the breeder never had them breed. They would let me pet them even though they were origionally breeders. A quieter voice. Were never agressive. They loved the sound of the vacume cleaner. Friendly but maybe not cuddly. Very cute.

      Thank you for posting (and watching). It sounds like you had a loving touch - and it is nice that you were able to give them such a big cage. They are very sweet birds.

    I can’t believe it’s been a year. Ale is a gem! I adore his little white cap. I really think Pionus parrots are the best kept secret. The blue headed I fostered was pretty quiet. He never went crazy. He was content being on my shoulder or on his play stand. Funny, the Pionus I had never showed any aggression toward my other birds. I had a very jealous Amazon and a jealous African Grey at the time. I’m curious about the tether. Everything I’ve read has advised to never put a tether on a parrot. Everything said a tether should only be used on a bird of prey as they have very strong legs. I guess if you have a bird that isn’t apt to take off it would be ok. I’d like to hear your take.💕💕💕

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll make a vid on the tether-
      Yes, time flies! Was your Pionus also not a squaker but more of a sweet-sound maker?

    • @1hawaii21
      @1hawaii21 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My Pionus. Was not a screamer and he wasn’t loud. I think he was a male. Never tested but he had a bright blue head . He was pretty quiet. The only way I can describe the majority of sounds he made would be sweet. He could be loud but it was when he wanted something like to be picked up. He said “hello”. The woman who finally adopted him, the mother of a friend, adored him. The husband converted an old child’s high chair into a bird stand so they could pull the bird up to the table while they ate. His name was Blueberry. Original, right?! He was a friendly, easily handled bird. 😁

    i have a white capped pionus, shes reaching 25 years old. still is going on very well. yes, they do tend to be independent and aren't too keen on being handled. they like taking showers with you though. they can be very over dramatic. i don't know how much longer she has, but i play with her and give her smooches every day.

      @@ParrotBliss oh yes, i love my little gonzo. the story of gonzo is sad but with a happy ending. she was a bit small and scruffy looking, the runt of the litter. she was in that pet shop for 2 years and no one wanted her. i would pop over on work break and she got used to seeing me and would come up and let me rub her head feathers through the cage bars. sometimes i would sneak in a peanut for her. one day, the pet shop changed the cages to glass cages. i still remember the day i went there and gonzo saw me and came to interact with me, but i couldn't touch her because she was behind glass now. she looked up at me with such sad eyes, it broke my heart. i went and bought her the very next day. she has been given love and attention ever since and i loved it, when i would come home, how she would fly to me. she is old now, her wings aren't in the best condition.....but she gets love and smooches every day and i tell her how beautiful she is.

    Enjoyed your video ❤ I’m a mom of a 7 yr old blue headed pionus. He was surrendered to a bird store which baffles me because he is amazing. He came with extensive vocab. “Give me kiss!” “Good morning” “human cough” and other antics sounds like talking to aliens 👽 lol Do you know pionus strut is a male behavior? Never DNA tested but i have s feeling he is a boy.

    This seems like a great bird. $3k is a lot of money, but maybe that's a good thing. They shouldn't be going home with owners who aren't serious about caring for them.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed - plus, you need an owner who is ok with spending money and time on fresh vegetables, pellets, nuts or seeds (when appropriate) and the avian vet...

  • @deborahhowe4595
    @deborahhowe4595 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a white cap, he has his chest feathers chewed, not plucked but just white fuzz looking chest feathers, he also has overgrown nails, can the vet fix his nails in one visit? Or is it gonna take several visits to correct him? We bought him anyways to give him a better life, I'll take any advice 😢

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pionus parrots are amazing. Give him plenty of time, they take time to forge a bond, which is then strong.
      Vet will take care of the nails. The feathers means something emotional, physical or such was wrong. Hopefully it will automatically be corrected by being with you. Keep me updated!

    My hair type and texture is similar to yours. Do you use any product in it. My bird likes to preen my hair but I had to stop allowing him unless I go without any mouse/gel etc. I’m scared he will ingest the chemicals. Is it just something we have to keep the, from doing.
