NKP 190 Sits in Bison Yard

While winds blew across Western New York, and Bison Yard switcher C98 worked nearby, Norfolk Southern manifest 310 sat tied down at the east end of the yard in Cheektowaga, allowing DL/NKP Alco PA-1 #190 to take a break from its cross-country journey home to Scranton, PA, while Maintenance of Way crew placed new rails along the Southern Tier Line a few miles away!

Mighty nice of 190 to push those EMD and GE locos while she pulls the train. 😉 Going to be interesting to see what DL does with 190, and seeing what paint scheme they choose. EL inspired perchance?

That Alco PA should of have the correct war bonnet paint on it seeing it's ex SANTA FE , has it got a power plant yet ?? ( should be able pinch one out of a tug boat , they had them ) * Alco prime mover *

Here in the northeast, many railfans are also hoping for a war bonnet also but in D&H blue and yellow. After all, the D&H was the first to save these units from the scrapper's torch and raise the PA to celebrity status. Probably won't happen because I believe the stainless sides that made the war bonnets so attractive were destroyed in the wreck in Mexico. Doyle also removed the distinctive number boards, making an accurate restoration slightly more difficult. You may still get your wish because the second wrecked unit returned from Mexico is planned to be returned to Santa Fe livery. Great thing is that all four PA4s seem to have 9 lives.
The unit does have an Alco prime mover from a retired BC Rail road switcher along with trucks from a Fairbanks Morse Erie Built passenger unit. My understanding is that 190 just needs some TLC to be operational as there are many small issues that need to be addressed.

What a great shot of the old gal #190. But it looked kind of small next to the consist of 310. I really do like the lines of 190 and wish the makers would get a little more streamlined with newer models of engines. Just a personal preference.

Thank you! She does look tiny next to those GEs, then again the modern GE and EMD road power will make anything look small lol. I too love the look and design of the older streamlined passenger locomotives, as well as the brute ruggedness of the old freight power. Granted modern locomotives is still something to behold!

Thank you! Yep, he was the one who preserved and restored 190, but recently GVT bought it and now it's heading to the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton, PA.

JMO.....of all the paint schemes they could have applied, the NKP scheme is the least attractive
Warbonnet all the way.
