    Been saying this since the days of $300 gen3 23s. I used to only get .40s exclusively because you can convert them. Great in a shtf scenario because your chance of being able to shoot found ammo goes up by a caliber.

  • @maxmccain8950
    @maxmccain8950 6 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    Let me see. With conversion barrels you can shoot 9mm, 40, 357 Sig and with a conversion kit you can shoot 22 lr. Four calibers for the same gun. It’s great, I know, that’s exactly what I did. I love it.

    A .40 s&w is not a necked down 10mm…it is a shortened 10mm…big difference

    @GunBigotHater 5 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    I have thought of this too. You can also put a 357 SIG barrel in it, making essentially, a 3 caliber kit, with which, you could compete AND hunt. The heavier barrel would take more to move, thus dampening felt recoil and muzzle flip.

    I agree with you. I have a g35, I am a competitive shooter, I use 40 cal for practice and 40-9 barrel 9mm cal in competition. It seems I got a better advantage on speed. Although the scoring is minimum, but still ok.

      Huh. I used to shoot a g22 many many moons ago so I was in high power open class with a comp. I've always been surprised that Glock never fielded a .38 super.

  • @mrrustygray

    I bought a used 23, popped in a threaded 9mm conversion with a long compensator for my MCK. Works great. Now I can run 9mm suppressed, compensated, or swap to my .40 barrel and run a bit hotter ammo.

  • @miduv82
    @miduv82 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    You stated was I was thinking. I also have the G35 and the benefit of having a thicker barrel for a 9mm swap is a no brainer as it helps with muzzle flip. If you're shooting subsonic 9mm loads get a tungsten recoil guide rod and a set of springs with different pound ratings. I had to play around with a few different options for cycling well for subsonic 9mm while using a muzzle compsinsator. I've almost eliminated any barrel flip. I don't understand why people buy the G34 when the G35 is basically a transformer and can do anything with it. 75% of the internals are swapped out and have it down to just switching springs and barrels for the different loads and calibers. I never tried using the 9mm rounds in the 40 magazines. Just bought a few 9mm magazines (couple of fun sticks). Not to mention 9mm is slightly cheaper to practice with than 40.

    • @briank3194

    .40 s&w will penetrate barriers that 9mm won’t. It’s all fine and dandy for putting holes in paper fast but... when someone is behind a car door shooting at you, the 180gr gold dot will defeat the car door.

      So will a 124gr 9mm gold dot. Not to mention other more efficient and capable rounds. Only with a 9, you can put more rounds on target. More rounds on target=more problems solved. Thank you for the interesting presentation. I would like to raise three points (concerns questions).
    How is the fitment of the 9mm barrel to the diameter of the barrel opening of a .40 caliber slide?
    For reliability when shooting 9mm, would you have to exchange the ejector from the ejector for .40 to the ejector for 9mm?
    Ditto for the extractor?

    • @brandomarley
      @brandomarley 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're basically going from -.005 10mm to 9mm so the barrel still fits Because the conversion is designed to but the point is that it weighs more to fill that almost 1mm of space. It means with a heavier barrel you get less muzzle flip

    • @calholli
      @calholli 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First.. the barrel diameter is perfect... Noted: you can't use a regular 9mm barrel, you have to specifically buy a "conversion barrel", so that the outer diameter fits the g35, while the inner is the 9mm. (hints why he likes it, because it makes the barrel thicker, basically being a bull barrel).... Next, a 9mm ejector is bent compared to the .40, which is straight... .. It should be fine, unless you are having reliability issues, then you should probably get the 9mm ejector.......... But if it was the other way around and you leave your 9mm ejector in there and swap back to .40, shooting .40 with a 'bent 9mm ejector, then it could possibly hit the primer--- so make sure you have the .40 (straight) ejector when shooting the .40... I'm not sure about the extractor, I think it's close enough that it should still work for both.

    Reason NOT to get a G35. Caliber conversions aren’t legal in USPSA, and the Glock is really only competitive in Production/Carry Optics which is a Minor only (9mm) division. If you’re going to compete in Limited/Open a Glock probably isn’t the right choice.

    I could just as easily buy my 34 (which I already have) and buy a Glock 35 barrel as well...?
    AND NO, it is NOT as easy as just swapping barrels in California, you have to have both serial numbers on record to have both barrels, good luck trying to explain to a California cop why you do not.

    The only reason to buy a G35 is to compete in USPSA Major division, personally, for me, the G34 is king plus widely used in competitive sports other calibers.

    • @brentfoto
      @brentfoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use the 35 to compete in USPSA as you stated, but that certainly is not the only reason to purchase one.
      .40 S&W has more of an initial energy 'punch' for defensive purposes. There's no doubt about it, though penetration and expansion may be similar among the major calibers. I'm thinking that it might pay in the long run to get a 35 over a 34 and go with the 35 for HD and go with conversion bbl for 9mm.
