    Just got home from mine; had an MRI 2wks ago. The PET scanner is waaay less claustrophobic. The opening is bigger and it's not deep enough to cover the whole body at once. Plus, the big bonus for us claustrophobans😀: if at any time I actually lost it, like we all think we could someday(but never have), I knew I could scramble out of there in 2 seconds, no sweat. So it was no big deal after all. Don't worry. 😁

      And it makes no noise!
      I was waiting for it to start, but it just stays quiet.👍🏻

      Less claustrophobic but you took in 8 years of background radiation.

    • @abel3557
      @abel3557 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adrenalinejunkie3828 So it takes 25 transatlantic flights for 20 years straight to equal 2 PET scans. When one PET scan would give you 250 flights worth of radiation in the small time it takes to do the test.
      Pilots have been proven with studies to have double the chance of getting melanoma or other skin cancers. And while skin cancers are mostly survivable, the main danger is the cancer spreading.
      And the whole comparison you made had nothing to do with my comment. I mentioned that you get 8 years of radiation in minutes from a PET scan.

      I just don't like that they said after the scan you won't feel anything from the radioactive juice, the chose not to mention anything about before when it's being injected into you. What kind of curious about that.

    FDG - fluorodeoxyglucose, a sugar-based solution.
    The cells don't take up the radioactive tracers, they take up the sugar that is coupled with a radioactive marker.

    I did not realize that one is required to keep one's arms raised as shown in this video. I have dislocated my right shoulder several times, and even holding my left arm in this position was extremely stressful and uncomfortable. If they could have let me stretch my arms prior to entering the scanner, it would have been a lot more comfortable. My left arm was shaking for minutes after I exited.

      Because the tracer itself is radioactive, but before we give it to you, it's locked up behind lead. After we administer, then the patient becomes radioactive. If an accompanying family member that is pregnant comes along we urge them to stay away from the patient as a precaution for radiation exposure 😊
