i think billy was about 31 years old here and in the prime of his life. martial artists can go on for years if they look after themselves. my tkd instructor was still competing at age 47 and still winning championship fights...billy blanks rocks hard.
That's exactly how I felt. That's a big part of the reason I left my last Jiu Jitsu instructor. He was afraid of competing and to me, that sent shivers down my spine. Why would you want to learn something if you can't even test it in as close to real life situations against people equally as skilled?
Billy Blanks is a 7th Degree BB in Tae Kwon Do. Just go to a local TKD school in your area and ask if they have a Black belt within 3 years of your age and 5 pounds of your weight that you could face in a challenge match.
African American Shadow Boxing (School of Mixed Martial Arts) Is proud to have 15 male and female competitors participating in muay thai, no gi grappling & sport kickboxing at the Long Beach International Karate Championships Aug 9th
I know times change and MMA is now huge but back in 1986 none of the haters on here would fuck with Billy Blanks and there wasn't a lot BJJ schools for you to get your jits on.
The thing is combat sports have a high risk of short and long term injury. That's why they created point fighting in the first place. For safety. The best fighters are those that train for the fullest of contact, my sensei who fought Billy Blanks acknowledged this. But a Martial Artist trains for self defense not to compete in a sport.
"The best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt on any style. He kicks too good for a Boxer, throws too good for a Karate man, and punches too good for a Judo man." - Bruce Lee -- That is the point I am making. Stop focusing on styles. Learn every useful technique you can. Watch my Complete Martial Artist video. A real Martial Artist focuses on how he can better himself not putting down someone else.
It's a point fighting Karate match (i.e. a combat SPORT). Who said it was a real fight? A real fight is when you are on the street without rules, refs or pads using your skills to defend yourself from someone trying to injure, maim or even kill you. No combat sport, not even MMA, is an equivalent to a "real fight". They allow only the skills within the rules of the sport. Billy Blanks is a Martial Artist. This match is a mere sample of the skill he trains in for REAL combat.
keeping your energy level extremely high so you can pounce, leg block, kick, dodge, etc... ready to counter or attack at any time. It also makes it harder for your enemy to know when an attack is coming if you stay in constant motion.
i remember this. everybody who was anybody was there. only a few "attitudes". mostly everybody was cool. famous actors also into martial arts were there too.
bill wallace was was one of the best point fighters in the late 60s early 70s,and the first middleweight full contact karate champion.he is on youtube.like u said its a game.i have had a hard time explaining the rules to people.continous will be better for the sport. i think it should be done as a excercise in the dojo.
ahh yeah kickboxing pioneer thought i recognised the name. i just got point stop possibly added to our tournements (PUMA taekwon-do) as a seperate event, i like it and all the guys who are good at continuous will have to learn a completeky new ballgame
lol i was looking for this first time ive seen him in combat, my parents when i was a kid told me he was a beast but damn. he came out with an axe kick wtf is that shit..dude was hard af go taebo. oh bty an axe kick is HARD AF.
All the Gracie challenge showed was that ground fighting is an important aspect of combat and that a striker is defenseless on the ground against a grappler. How would a BJJ purist do against a Karate master only standing up? Which art is more useful against 2 or more opponents? CROSS-TRAINING in all useful skills is important. MMA keyboard warriors forget that when they go around bashing TMA styles. Who is the better MMArtist, Royce Gracie or George St. Pierre? You miss my point entirely.
Just for the record, Billy only beat Steve "Nasty" Anderson in competition over the years a very few times...Steve was better. I was there for many of those fights. My instructor fought Steve, and lost by one point...that was pretty darn impressive. Both Billy and Steve were really nice guys on the point fighting circuit.
I beat both of them in an underground no rules kumite in Mongolia. The movie "bloodsport" was based on me as well as "no holds barred" & "under siege".
I enjoy the Tv series Human Weapon. It shows the redeemable qualities of TMA styles. Jason Chambers and Bill Duff have been getting their asses kicked handily in various styles. Chambers is an MMArtist, it's always nice to see him fight. In the Tae Kwon Do episode Duff got KTFO and Chambers hurt his knee trying to take on the TKD master under their rules. Some of the best MMArtists have a TMA base. Cross-training is essential to MMA success, but you do a disservice to MMA with your ignorance.
I'm not simply telling you what I believe. I am giving you an opinion based on what I KNOW. There's a difference. You're judging Blank's skill based on a point karate match on TH-cam dated to 1986. You think he punches from the hip when he has cross-trained in Boxing for years. Do I think a prime Blanks from that era could beat a world class modern MMArtist in MMA? No. But what you don't seem to comprehend is that a combat sport and a real fight are not the same thing....
You can beat Billy? Wow! Go challenge the nearest equivalent to Blanks, from his style, in your weight class and age group (+or- 3 years) to a fight and upload the result to TH-cam. Keyboard Warrorism doesn't mean shit. Anyone whose ever seen a Tae Bo infomercial knows that Blanks doesn't just punch from his hips. A 5 yo White belt knows you don't do that in real Karate and TKD training. Under the rules of this fight a hit to the head is a point. That's the reason for the stance....
This format of fighting is so tedious. I agree there;s excellent speed and skill but the constant stop/starting will always hold it back in terms of mainstream popularity.
you are taekwon-do yes? then you do a korean art, dojo is japanese, in korean and in taekwon-do the training hall is a dojang ... sorry but that has to be right. i dont know if you were talking karate but if you're talking tkd then its a dojang
point stop banned? who's bill wallace? rings a bell but i cabt put my finger on it. either way i think pro point stop is quite an interesting and fun game. recently ive been doing a bit more point stop and i think its just sorta fun. but it shou;d be done along side continuous in my oppinion
That's not true. But go ahead. Prove it. Don't just talk shit. Fight a TKD expert and see what they're made of. Post the result on TH-cam. MMA is a sport. It's the ultimate combat sport but it is still a sport. David Loiseau is a TKD BB and he did pretty well in the UFC. TMArtists train for real combat. Their skills are not limited to what is allowed in point fighting and other limited combat sports.
Billy Blanks was an very extremely fast to be honest maybe don't have so big muscles how Van Dame has ,but have another technics with his harisma.Who doesn't like Blanks ? I have his program lesson Is his own program Taebo which mean boxing and dancing for every ages even more mature as well for men and womens
You're training the way they teach you to train. Does that mean that your training is superior to everyone elses? If you were a student of Frank Shamrock you would know that Frank frowns upon ridiculing Martial Arts masters, because their dedication is the reason Martial Arts have advanced to the stage they are at today. What separates a true Martial Artist from some cocky gym rat is their mindset, their willingness to focus on how they can improve not how much they think they are above others.
Why not? Boxing and Kickboxing are not fights? MMA is not a "real fight". It has always had rules. And don't give me this crap about you don't all out diss styles because you already did. My point about Karate against 2 or more opponents is that you have a better chance of success with it than you do Jiu-jitsu. If you go to the ground the other guys can stomp you. Either one is screwed on the ground but who has the better chance standing? Karate. The one who knows BOTH is superior to either.
2nd dan ITF tkd and 1st dan WKA kickboxing, 2 times british kb champ and tkd britsh champ: Kickboxing, TAUGHT ME NOTHING except how not to spar. its as simple as that. oh and this im watching, is tha point stop? isnt that what we give to the junior grades?
Didn't I tell you from the beginning that Billy Blanks cross-trains in other combat disciplines? You'd probably think you could beat Loiseau if you saw him in a point TKD match and didn't know he was an MMArtist. Tae Kwon Do artists train leg kicks, so stop making up stupid shit. These arts were designed to be used in real combat. Yes, their pure forms have holes and yes MMA is a superior combat sport to point fighting, as it is Boxing and any other. That doesn't justify ridiculing TMA masters.
Why would anyone stand up? 100% of fights begin standing up. Get off the computer for awhile and stop putting yourself in a box where you think the only effective way to fight is what you see on televised sport.
boring! karate tae bo and TKD competitions are almost always like this. GO GET EM!!! knock em down break legs do something stop running to him to kiss him thats totally gay!
Point Karate is a lot of running around with your hands down and your chin way up in the air. These guys are grossly out of position as they throw their kicks and punches. This is why they fall down so much. This sport encourages just about every bad habit a fighter can have. Point Karate should be outlawed...
Hey guys how bout we try some of this flailing, sloppy, nonsense slap sparring with real fighters hmmm(Boxers,Wrestlers,or Muaythaikickboxers)let me know how things went from ur hospital bed seriously
Thanks 4 showing B.B. He was one of my favourites, during the ' 80's. ❤

Respect to Billy Blanks.
RESPECT.... his reaction time in his prime was insane
LMAO. He used to have a Jerry Curl . . .from Jerry Curl to no curl. BTW I love Billy Blanks. He's an inspiration with all his TaeBo videos.
Billy Blanks is a 7th Degree BB in Tae Kwon Do. Just go to a local TKD school in your area and ask if they have a Black belt within 3 years of your age and 5 pounds of your weight that you could face in a challenge match.
THE GREATEST POINT FIGHTER EVER

Can someone explain the reason they bounce like they do? I don't fully understand that.
TAE BO FOREVER!

Steve was full on in competition, billy was already dipping his toes into the movie world.
Nobody believes you just because u say you were there #Facts
I beat both of them in an underground no rules kumite in Mongolia. The movie "bloodsport" was based on me as well as "no holds barred" & "under siege".
I installed billy's cable and internet a few days ago... haha.. He's still ripped.
I'M A BILLY BLANKS FAN & ONE HIS TAE-BO PRACTITIONERS!
@z28ace - What makes you think they aren't going to chase you down? What are you going to do when you're tired?..
How did you guys make out?
Yes, that is also like the stop/starting of American Football compared to Rugby.
what sport is that ?
Blanks kicks ass.

When someone attack you in the street, the only important thing is to survive.
Great pointfights
wow all types of jumping reverse punches..lottsa techinque huh.....
Billy had all the kicking the ability in the world and all he wanted to do was punch, punch, punch.
This format of fighting is so tedious. I agree there;s excellent speed and skill but the constant stop/starting will always hold it back in terms of mainstream popularity.
He just pulled that flip-kick out of nowhere. I would of got hit with that i think. It was so fast
I would've countered it with an inverted helicopter kick
More proven than Bruce Lee who has no fights to be analyzed. Fact

good. match. wit. flip. kick
After 3 jump in punch I would have thrown a front kick
Depends how much they could get out of it.

Neither that is martial art nor that karate, 😂 what it is is of unknown origin.
boring! karate tae bo and TKD competitions are almost always like this. GO GET EM!!! knock em down break legs do something stop running to him to kiss him thats totally gay!
I see zero Taek won do kicks here , this is really rubbish as a competition, they
Just throw a few punches , what the hell is this ?
