i am currently creating a piece of art work about our fight or flight response and how this is activated in traumatic experiences for us, in order to keep us alive. i am trying to visualise dissociation & immobilisation along side my installation by creating a video piece - i'm sampling this song as part of my work as i simply adore it as a piece of music. just crazy to me that your comment came up and that this triggers that response for you. so fckin cool. thank u for commenting
You only say that because you equate the song with the events in the movie. If you had discovered the song completely independent of the film, I doubt it would "activate your fight or flight instinct."
This movie is incredible! Kind of a bummer so few people seem to appreciate this masterpiece for what it is. The music, the storytelling, the visual effects and just the overal story. It's breathtaking. It's like watching a very strange dream. As someone who studied storytelling I can obsess over this movie endlessly. I suppose it's a bit too bizarre for most people, though. This song has got to be my favourite. It's so serene yet terrifying. It really captures that alien feeling in a way that hasn't been done before.
All the little details, all subtle elements, it's a movie that make you look and think "what is really going on?". I highly suspect that the biologist (Lena) was subjected to change/influence from the moment she encountered the returning soldier (Kane), but that's my theory.

When I first saw this I couldnt stop rewatching it over and over! Like you said, the writing, visuals, music, etc., makes the whole thing feel so serene yet terrifying! I started getting into cosmic horror, though not the same but they exude the feeling of helplessness against a higher being beyond our understanding. This really gives me the fear I cannot even explain, Love it!
Absolutely, seeing it in theatres when it came out was an unforgettable experience. I've seen the movie at least 2 more times since then and I'd watch it again

Is there really a being beyond our understanding, so powerful that it can whatever it wants to us, and we can't do anything about it but make futile attemps to either shield ourselves from the truth or destroy it? Are we to deny the harsh reality that we are just nothing in the grand scheme of things? Potentially a by-product of their celestial greatness? Scary stuff!
