From a VJ/Visual Musician's stand point, I found this video to be very informative and help bring awareness to what it is that VJ's do behind the scenes. I also would love to see more DJ B2B VJ performances on stage. I've done it myself at a few local shows and it makes for a completely new experience!
1:14 "The comments are such handy info for me"
**top comment: Luke's room is bigger than my house**
Some comments may not be as helpful as he thinks it is.
Ya know I’ve always thought the visuals were preprogrammed. That is absolutely amazing he’s free styling with you.
Lighting is the same way.
Dude! Thank you so much for always dropping knowledge on us! It's an inspiration to see someone who is still so stoked on learning new things and excited to share them. Legends walk among us.
I always thought that Visuals were pre-programmed to fit the DJ's set but it's not that simple sometimes and things go wrong too! I personally when listening to music imagine the visuals playing in perfect sync and harmony with the beat of the music, it's great to hear that there's a whole thing of it's own called VJ'ing. This was informative, cheers Luke!
So much value in this content. We appreciate your work Luke!
As a VJ, this is accurate. Also a lot goes into what we do before shows. Those of us who really take it serious create our content that is show specific or use creative code to create beautiful generative animations. With the amount of tools we have these days, the possibilities are endless!
I was at the strictly techno set at Audio SF. It’s crazy how calm LBL is when mixing. He just kinda gets into the zone and just goes. There’s the odd moments where he actually looks up and the crowd goes wild. Loved the set!
I have never been so anxious as I was this last week waiting for your next blog.
excision's AJ is one of the best in world, and you can see that, his shows are worth going even if youre not into heavy hitting dubstep, just the visuals.... theyre record breaking. well theres price on awesome visuals: big stages crashes.
The VJing part is the easy part. The people who create the visuals are the actual geniuses.
Yes!!! After meeting you when you came to SF and asked you about it, you didnt really feel the need for one. But now I love how appreciate it a lot now!
Yeaaaah finally on vinyl!!!
Collab with Hardwell ??????
Prima Fasha another one?
Oh, you mean Dynamo? Yeah that has already been made
Prima Fasha yeah I'd love to see that
Very good point from Simon - there should be DJs and VJs playing side-by-side, especially if the VJ made the visuals themselves
A VLogger LD that I do enjoy following is Christian Jackson. I know very little about Pro Lighting but his videos are very addicting and the shows he produces are spectacular.
Great catching up with you Luke! 🙏🏾
Im a colorist in Hollywood and also a big fan. I have 3 questions. 1. What monitored do you use for color correction. 2. What software do you use to color correct? 3. Do you color correct in a room with a lot of sunlight? let me Know I would love to help.
The Exchange looks very different from when I DJed there in 1989 (It was The Stock Exchange back then). Way better light show now.
vlog late today, no worries i got always time for laidbackluke vlog!!!
If you’re exporting directly from Premiere with colors it does that sometimes. Export the sequence as a pro res 444 at full quality after color correcting and grading, then import it into Davinci, then export as your mp4. Make sure to adjust the bitrate settings so you get the best results! That should help fix your problem!!
video starts at 3:14
Can you make a video about your view on lighting and production and what it adds to your show? Maybe a video with your lighting designer?
Always wanted to learn about how visuals worked! Its so important to give people the deeper experience if possible.
I was performing with a classical pianist at a concert hall and some of the people who saw the concert, thought the pianist controlled the visuals with her thoughts since they matched so well! I guess they didn't really understand what a VJ does and how audio reactivity and live mixing work. 😁
Honestly so insightful. Thanks for putting in the hard work to bring us this info Luke. Would love to see an In My Mind collab with Simon... In "OUR" Minds. lol. And maybe a collab with Phil Morse from Digital DJ Tips
Can't wait for next week's vlog dj mix on vinyl yaaaa
Hey Luke to fix the orange face thing you can just apply a thin layer of blue face paint. Should even out
Hitting like button even before watching. Who's with me?
Looking forward to watch your in my mind vinyl set next week.
two thumbs up for sure . this is literally one of my favorite aspects within livesets
A question everyone would like to know. Can you make a video about tthe financial aspect of being a DJ. How is the contract is set out? Not your personal information of course but generally. How is the payment structure for music releases under a label for a medium international DJ, tour gigs, festivals vs clubs, travel accommodations etc. What is paid out of pocket and what isn't. The financal aspect of the business
I really enjoy your Vlogs , although not a fan of the EDM Bass wobble sound ( I love your techno sets)
As a working DJ myself your info and attitude is FANTASTIC.
I recently started working with a young VJ ...we are both working for what the club will pay and then splitting, but I think the added level of performance and the co working together to create a great night is worth the push for bigger and greater things....it's amazing what can be done with 3 projectors and and some white boards.
How do you make custom video edits?
Im in love with your next vlog! Vinyl love
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Lol.
If you are using primiar pro than try colour grading with addjestment layer or you can also use lut persates in lumetri colour or if u want to go higher colour grading then you can use DaVinci Resolve 14 Film Editor for nice colour grading all Hollywood industry people use this.
How about a like for the most down to earth Producer/DJ in the world who takes time out of his busy schedule to share good content for the new generation of producers/Djs #thankyouLuke
Always gets us the best out there. A real Shifu
Hey Luke! Love that you not only do music but youtube also! What's some advice you can give when it comes to getting other DJs to play your tracks? I just moved to a new city and am not sure how to approach this without being annoying! Tips?
Big fan, what aspect of DJ do you enjoy the most? Least?
Hey, it's to do with the compression settings when you export your video and TH-cam's compression algorithm when they downsample the video for storage on their servers, what do use, FCPX or Premier pro? You'll find export presets for both that optimise the video for TH-cam online. Use these and tweak them to your preference and go easy on the colour correction as much as you can, shoot with LUT profiles if you can 👌
hey hey hey! 2:38 i am there with my friend and brother! Such a good show !!! Excited to see you DJ on vinyl. Show me the path to true DJing .
I waited so long for this video! Thanks!!!!!! a lot!!!
So do you just bring around a personal VJ to every gig you do or do some venues provide their own? I would assume a VJ has to know the DJ pretty well to know when to transition, hit the lights, fire the Co2, etc. I'll actually sit behind or next to the VJ booth that's usually in the center of the venue and watch the VJ more than the DJ just to see how all the visuals work.
And how do you go about creating the visuals? Is it easy to learn how to do them yourself or is it better to contract a company to do everything with a theme you have in mind?
Why is no one talking about the frist song!!! Ashton- One's We Hate. I can't find it anywhere!! Help!!
Is it out yet!?!?!
It's still unreleased
unreleased :(

Hi luke great videos, great material, and cool edit
Hi Luke Regarding colour correction, There are so many reasons can be:
•Depends on your camera’s settings first,
•Are you shooting on flat-log video profile, if you do should be easier to fix ( what camera are you using btw?)
•It can be because of the wrong white balance.
•if you are doing your own colour correction, check your screens calibration to your room. There are some small devices can change your screen colour calibration according to your room lighting. like www.jessops.com/p/x-rite/i1-display-pro-123958
if you tell me about your equipments and things you do while you are editing maybe I can help.
By the way you are an inspiration!!! Keep going forward with your music👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome. Any idea how to get started vjing? Always thought it would be really cool to try
Any chance of a video on how you expand your knowledge on different backgrounds, genres, and styles of music, and how you find new tracks
Finnaly, more in my mind! you rock LL!
Hey man, ever thought of doing an in my mind of a vinyl only set? I think it would be pretty interesting to see you work some wax 👌👌👌
SATA Watch at the end
Thanks for the info!
Hey luke I'm your fun from PH, I'm just curious what software is used for Party Visualizer?
What do think about DJ SNAKE? Is he a good music producer and as a DJ?
Hey Luke
I'm a beginner DJ that just got out his bedroom. I don't produce and that's why I wanted to ask you this: when I go to a festival or a club that has other djs before and after me, how can I make sure my set is unique?
You rule man
Color correction + monitor calibration ( for no more umpa lumpa saturation )
Hey Luke. The color correction issue may come down to how it is being shot and possibly the white balance if you are shooting in AWB. Would love to come along and help shoot a vlog for you.
Been Vjing For 3 years now, using the same software they are. Its a lot of fun! Just did a show last night all live
What program and controller do you use ?
i like all the light shows and all the buttons ;-)
. Vjing is so interesting. Keep on with the DJ related interviews. Salute. You have My respects. Hard work and positive flow.
Luke have you ever done a Vlog about Video editing your Vlog? Who does the edits & what happens after you collect the content?
great blog
Just ordered a massive led panel for our club! Couldn't have come at a better time
Wow awesome stuff. I Just missed seen you play at EXLA due to a prior gig. It would of been great to see Simon and hang out with him since Im one of the Vj's at EXLA.
As far as color correction it could be do to the laptop screen not been color corrected. I run into this problem when i switch from pc to mac. Another issues could be mixed lights when recording. they may look white to our eye but they are different color temperature. Also if the light gets bounce off a wall thats not white or a grey wall with a color tint it will trow off your color correction.
Other thing will be to get a photo grey card to color balance your camera every-time to get the best correction possible.
Check this out.

Me likes dj vs vj battle one day demo by you and Simon soon. . Seamless mixing on the fly sounds like lots of fun! Besides just at a festivak.
My company has been doing a VJ concert (That's pre-record believe it or not. No doubt I'm not going to lie about it but) for a few years now and I haven't been used to doing graphics all the time.
Of course! If anyone was going to teach about vj irl was going to be the incredible Laidback Luke! Dj and producer, kung fu athlete and dedicated dad!
Are you planning on doing a similar video about the lighting shows?
Awsome Jobb This Weekend at Garden Stage Cruise Luke!!!! I'm so glad that i met you and I'm looking forward to see youre next Vlog from the gig at the Cruis!! And I will send my music to you as i promised!!! :D #WIIZE

YO how did you feel playing on the denon dj equipment vs cdjs??
FREESTYLIN’ is the WAY. 20+ yrs gratitude for the progressive fusion, r&b jazz, fOnk, central jungle born Rock & Soul that built my still evolving vocabulary on both analog & digitized percussive controllers, humbly looking forward to contributing more to this incredibly important professional underground & rebelliously driven artform 👊🏼🔥❤️🔥🔥👊🏼
