Sadly the anime is catered towards kids. No pretty much for toddlers now. Even some kids would find the anime's story pretty lame and too childish tbh. And don't at me kids love good stories. Well not a mature one like Attack on titan but that doesn't mean it should be stagnant and have lazy writing.

Which is why the manga is either up there or slightly better than the digimon anime in some aspects.
In ORAS Red is 20, and I think he is already 30 in SM XD (He and Green, Blue, and Yellow may appear in SM at any time.)

I learned to realize people won’t cover it, had the Adventure Manga 1-7 and occasionally got some of Johto (only made it to 11 before we couldn’t find any more). And since Lost Pause covered it, it’s gotten more of a boom and I’m happy :^)

I'm 2 years late, but my favorite arc is black/white. It's the only one without a happy ending, and it always tugged at my heartstrings. Yellow comes in second, I can't say why but it is just incredible.

The fact that Satoshi Tajiri said that the manga is the best and closest thing to his original idea makes me appreciate Pokémon Adventures more

I don’t think it’s fair to degrade the anime completely, as it was a huge part of Pokémon’s popularity (admittedly I’ve rewatched some seasons of it). I’d love to see this manga gets an anime adaptation but the actual Pokémon Anime isn’t that bad

The manga was so terribly underrated. It was the best manga I’ve ever read. Every story arc was amazing. So many good powerful moments. I loved characters like Yellow and Silver who never appeared in an anime.

I just remember this being SUPER BRUTAL. Like, the main character is nearly straight up murdered multiple times.
He was electroshock so many times and survived I cannot-
what about the times the main character actually dies, the ending of frlg did that but there was jirachi to revive in emerald chapter, red didn't seem to know what happened in the 3 months that passed, but silver did so its debatable.
Y she was almost killed by Shauna possessed by Celosia's Aegislash
And Zinnia got straight up impaled by Rayquaza
Note:in frlg they didn’t die,silver states himself that he had some consciousness in there.same could be said for the others

I remember when I was younger, going to my local library, constantly checking the release date for the next book in the series. It's incredible well written and really holds a special place in my heart.
Same, I remember see it as a kid and thinking “what is this knock off trash” started reading it and immediately took back what I said

I saw this book in a elementary school library. I never read it but now that I know what was in there I'm just worried of the trauma I could've gotten.
You definitely should have also mentioned how the original Elite Four were also an evil organization. They were true endgame boss material, and the fights against them were super cool

Seeing Red,Green,Blue and Yellow again in FRLG arc really make me happy for some reason. The same character that I've known during my childhood are all grown up and looking all well... it's like meeting an old best friend who we haven't saw in years

Probably the best part about it is that everyone has actual character and personality and their own interesting back stories. All of them have their own individual goals whether it be becoming the best pokemon trainer or becoming a famous comedian as well as their own struggles

My favorite by far would have to be the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum arcs. I've grown to love these character more than any of the other characters that came before. The fact that they weren't even trying to be pokemon trainere but did anyway is absolutely HILARIOUS to me. Like man, they're just comedians who thought they were getting a free bike ride and instead they saved the world. How fucking funny is that??? And Platina's just trying to climb this mountain while thinking she's got these two completely capable bodyguards, who in turn think SHE'S a tour guide! And somehow they get roped into the gym challenge but it's only her doing it instead of everyone, which is a pretty decent change of pace. And of course the character growth they all experience is phenominal. I love how they all progress in the story, and by the end, they're all completely different, yet still the same core characters. I literally want a Diamond/Pearl remake JUST so I can FINALLY see these characters again.
Also for that mining part of the game.

My favorite is D/P/Pt.
The part where they had to travel separately and they couldn't hear their Pokedexes in the morning made me realize how well written this trio is.
The d/p/pt arc does the group dynamic better than any season of the anime
The rush I felt when they reunited in Galactic HQ and could hear their Pokédex beeping again was crazy. That and when Diamond got sent to the Distortion World and Pearl presumed him literally dead.
Serious Diamond moments are the best.

Crystal is the best at catching. And retains this title while using pokeballs *WITH HER FEET*
Some of them get the shorter end of the stick as time goes on, but you get the distinct feeling that each character and arc is different in far more ways then new Pokemon and a new world. It's more like a new JoJo part.

Emerald has the ability to put all pokémon to ease through his extensive knowledge + certain tools
Diamond, Pearl & Platinum reflect the spirits of the lake guardians respectively, making them Cyrus' greatest nightmare.
This one's more symbolic but Black and White titled as the "dreamers" are known for going any lengths to stop anything getting in the way of their dreams, being the antitheses of TPlasma's ideology.
Blake/Lack-Two is known as the Arrester being a Superintendent of the international police. Contrasting to the dreamers, he is driven by pure judicial policy rather than his own dreams/emotions & is willing to take down foes regardless of their ideologies.
Whitley/Whi-Two known as the Liberator is an Ex-TPlasma member who's driven by her dream for true liberation aiming to take down Neo-TPlasma for their abandonment of N's goals.
X has a natural affinity for mega evolution due to his pure soul which has been long left untouched by human society whilst Y being a talented Sky Trainer rules airborne battles.
Sun is a natural collector of currency which translates into his Z-crystal collecting.
Moon being a literal pharmacist knows all there is about poison types and potions.
Soudo(Sword) specialies in enhancing pokémon tools and using them to their fullest
Shilly(Shield) has a talent for technology even being responsible for creating the dynamax simulator.
Something that I loved about the manga is their use of the game characters and when to make them important to the plot. One of the many reasons why videogame adaptations fail is because they try to replicate everything through the player character, but in Pokemon Adventures, that's not the case. Even though the player characters are the protagonists, other characters get to do stuff that only you could do in the game, like in the Diamond and Pearl saga, where Cynthia is the one infiltrating Team Galactic's headquarters and fighting against Cyrus. Not only it gives us a break from watching the main character do literally everything, but we also get to experience parts of the games through the eyes of other characters, while also giving them more spotlight and development that they didn't have in the games. Cynthia IS aware of Team Galactic's schemes and she's actively trying to stop them cuz she's Sinnoh's champion, something that we hardly see in the games
That is a problem the games has in the first place. The champions fell flat as characters because of this weak storytelling choice: Telling not showing. They just straight up tell us "Ooh I'm the league champion and I'm strong" without any way of properly showcasing their strength until we battle them. Say all you want about Cynthia but what trait can you name from her other than her Garchomp that gives Vietnam flashbacks to players? Nothing. A great and challenging final boss sure, but she barely qualifies as a character. And so are the rest of the champions except maybe Blue, N, and US/UM Hau, but that's mainly because they're also rivals and them becoming a champion stems from your built up rivalry with them.

Not just named characters like Cynthia. Random trainers get a moment in the spotlight too. Youngster Joey and a fisherman have significant roles in the GSC arc. Interviewer Gabby and Ty, the recurring (optional) double battle in Gen 3 are secondary protagonists in their own right, investigating all of Team Magma and Aqua's terrorism.
The more new people talk about this manga, the more I am convinced that a anime adaptation is essential.
Yes although the anime adaptation needs to be done properly, not some rushjob by some studio that doesn't quite care. Seasons need to be no less than 26 episodes, although if they were stretched to say 39 episodes that would be ok. Season 1 based on Volumes 1-7 (RBG & Y) & Season 2 based on Volumes 8-14 (GSC) need a proper anime adaptation. It would be nice if we also got proper Seasons 3 (RS) & 4 (FRLG & E) as well.
Unfortunately I felt the manga's overall quality heavily dropped starting with the Gen4 stuff.

WaterKirby1994 In my opinion it got better after gen 4. I liked everything before that (except Fire red and Leaf green) but it was very repetitive. The later arcs are a breath of fresh air
@@justatoaster7476 I haven't really followed the manga for Gens 5-7 that much because of how the Gen 5 & Gen7 manga haven't finished yet, while the Gen6 manga just felt weird.
Gens 1-3 were when the Manga was at its best. I greatly prefer FireRed & LeafGreen saga over everything I've read from Gen 4 onward. DPP manga while fun felt awkward because of how disconnected it was from everything that came before with the exception of Sird.
Gen 1 manga was by no means repetitive, it was revolutionary. Gen 2's manga I admit had a slow start, although once you get to the 2nd Volume it becomes epic. I admit Gen3 was a step down from the 1st 2 Gens although it was still better than Gen 4's manga.
Also what didn't you like about FRLG? A lot of the manga arcs started feeling rushed or halfbaked starting in Gen4. Gen 5 avoids this by actually being its own series continuing to this day. Still you can't ignore the way Gen 6's manga feels or how jumbled up the timeline got.
If you like the newer manga arcs good for you, although I just couldn't find them as good as the Gens 1-3 manga. I don't think I can properly judge the manga for Gens 5 or 7 yet as they are ongoing.
WaterKirby1994 In my opinion the first 2 were the weakest. Gen 3 is when it started to get good. A lot of the writing is very inconsistent in earlier chapters. Gen 4 was really the first time it had a chapter focused mostly one the characters and Gen 5 had a great story.
The Gold and Silver Arc was THE BEST, if was literally Avengers Endgame in middle school for me and I have cherished this series and i cannot be more grateful to my friend who introduced it to me. I literally pulled all nighters when I was little to read this.

The Adventures manga is clearly the cream of the crop when it comes to the Pokemon franchise. It has the most depth and growth, the most beloved characters, the best plots, great humor, and has the most love, time, and effort put into it. The games fluctuate in quality like crazy, with many of the more recent games having plummeted in quality after Gen 5. The anime also fluctuates like mad, ranging from good to bad to unwatchable, but is nevertheless inferior to Adventures even at its peak. The Adventures manga is a beautiful diamond that must always be preserved and explored by both new and old fans, as you can't go wrong with it. My personal favorite "series" in the manga is the DPPt segment, as I love the dynamic between Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, along with the fact that while Platinum is the face of the trio, it's Diamond who's the main hero of their arcs. But, in any case, the Adventures manga is the best that the franchise can offer, hands down.

I spent the entirity of 2019 reading the manga, and now I have a collection of the manga, from Red and Blue to the now ongoing Sun and Moon. I also habe the official Adventures art book, which contains art from the gen 1 manga all the way up to the gen 6 manga! Once I get some money, I'm gonna buy the next book and read it. Spending a few months without the manga has been incredibly difficult! In other words: I love this manga so much. Specially the earlier chapters means so much to me, and to this date, it's still pretty fun to read, specially when they add little easter eggs to earlier chapters in the series!
This is what pokemon anime should be, characters with personalities, character arcs, not being scared to age their characters.
As a fan of the manga since 2013, that has been something I’ve been wishing for.
I only have the first 3 volumes of Red, Blue, and Yellow, and the 7 box set of Gold, Silver, and Crystal. I haven't read the Yellow chapters or moved on to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Should I keep going?

I loved the Ruby and Sapphire arc it was so well done and had a brilliant balance of character development, humor and exploration accompanied by an epic adventure

i really love how the trainer interacts in the battle, not just standing still and give command the pokemon, they have to dodge with the pokemon, fly with the pokemon in battles, i just really LOVE that feature! it feels so real and it's like you're actually in the battle!
Personally think Pokemon Adventures is a better representation of the pokemon universe than the games.
The games themselves are held back by just that - they're games. You can only tell so much of a story through them. Adventures goes out of its way to embody the image the player is essentially supposed to feel while playing the game, and adds to it by adding thrilling moments and a sense of stakes that the games can't fully produce other than through challenging mechanics.
It feels like less like the game, and more like when me and my childhood friend walked out back and would pretend we were in the world of pokemon, imagining how the fights would go and the interctions would look as we walked around the backyard... a world of true imagination over a world with strick boundaries and rules bounded by an actual competitive title.
Tl;dr Manga makes things more detailed if it tells a more differwnt story

One thing i like about this manga is that most of the arc are pretty much interconnected. It actually makes you feel that the Pokemon World are really huge. The thing I like about adventures is that they build an almost "semi realistic" pokemon world.
Since the games are well, games they have to sacrifice some elements for game play because well they are games and that doesn't make them any less cool.
However the adventure manga is able to build on that since it's supposed to be read like a story and not played as well. Small things like dynamic battles, violent stakes that aren't for the sake of edginess or even little cool details like for example N not using pokeballs for his pokemon because of his character make all the difference.
I think it's the adaptation of the mechanics the games already had, as well as fleshing out the characters the games already had even more is what make this series awesome.
I find it funny when I told one of my friends that pokemon kill each other for food and survival and he didn't like it. I know he would probably like the story but he is not used to the semi realism of the manga
Dex entries also get a lot of recognition in strategy. There was one fight where the villain exploits the Houndoom dex entry and call dozens of its own kind to assist them.
The manga fleshed out the game protagonists and made them into characters and not movable bots with only happy for an emotion.

The black and white 2 manga has got to be my favorite. I really feel like I appreciate the protags in bw2 a lot more after reading it, and made me realize that my favorite Pokémon is Genesect. Such a good manga, shame it can’t be animated and we have to watch an immortal 10 year old lose half his battles, and win the other half using plot armor and a gameshark
BW2 has the most interesting backstory for the characters one being a fed and the other being a former terrorist though they should’ve done more with Whitley

Even if this were true, it still wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing as losing leaves room for development and improvement, something Ash has been getting as a Trainer since his last and only "reset" (Black & White).

Actually I wish both anime and game were more like this. Even when I was like 12-14 I found out how deep manga is rather than Ash who never aged, was always the same character and never had any development as well as he fucking left all his powerful pokemons he made deep bonds with just to catch some new in other region. I watched first season, I remember how deeply invested I was when Ash was fighting to become Pokemon Champion and how crushed I was when he lost to his friend, one of guys I don't know even appeared in Pokemon again. I remember Mewtwo escaping from Team Rocket HQ, Giovanni wiping floor with Ash, Ash fighting Blaine using Charizard vs his Magmar, Ash beating Lt Surges Raichu using Pikachu. A lot of battles and moments were memorable, same as Ho-Oh being seen by Ash. I wanted anime to expand on this but never forget about moments, characters and make Ash relatable protagonist who will one day conquer Kanto's Pokemon League. Well, Pokemon went in other direction. Ash is never aging, having any character growth, training to actually become a champion or whatever. Imagine One Piece where you have more parts of Grand Line and after each part, Luffy swaps his crew for new people he meets along the way. This is how Pokemon treats companions, both pokemons and trainers. It's just walking advertise for merchandise and games which are extra by the way, main income comes from merchandise, toys, accesories and stuff. Pokemon Adventures is the best storytelling Pokemon franchise has to offer. It beats anime, beats games, beats movies. I wish I could watch anime based on Pokemon Adventures.
Honestly Pokémon would benefit from getting rid of the “bad guy team storylines”. It would just be cool to have a non-linear Pokémon game where you can explore the world and find Pokémon.
Yea, I first read this when I was 12 and it was great, I liked it way more than the anime. Even as I grew older I still liked the manga, although I didnt and dont remember much of it because I dont own any copies. Imo its amazing that someone is able to create something both children/preteens and adults can enjoy. The manga is mature but it was never too mature for a 12yo me.

I really love how much the characters grow throughout their journeys across all the chapters. You feel like you’re growing with them and seeing all they’ve been through, like a friend you’ve known forever.
Plus I love how all the protagonists have nicknaming schemes with their Pokémon. It’s just a really cute touch and adds to the character of each of their teams

Pokemon adventures red is good too. It's a GBA hack based on fire red but it follows this manga with Pokemon from newer gen as well but I think manga worth a shot as well.

I said it once and I'll say it again. The Pokemon TV show we have now sucks. The characters dialogues are painfully bland they always state out the obvious. Ash and Natsu are tied in being sh*tty bland protagonists with the same lame "power of friendship" ideals. Every arc is basically a rehash from the last. Instead of expanding the lore of the games it just acts as a glorified commercial. It's just uninspired beyond belief.

AsianWithHat Pokemon adventures manga isn’t that dark imo. Yes it can get just as serious as the MCU or Star Wars but it’s still not necessarily “adult” Pokémon. Either way though, it does have a more mature tone so that’s what matters regardless of how dark it is.

The Arbok that gets cut in half survives. It says in one of the volumes that it can regenerate as long as its head doesn't get cut off. What got cut was its neck.

Pokémon Special is just a masterpiece. I love the Ruby/Sapphire arc.
I still remember reading the R&S arc as a kid. I actually went and reread it recently and I was surprised by just how fantastic the characters were, especially Ruby.
And brings it further in omega ruby alpha sapphire.

In my opinion, it's not really underrated. It's held in high regard by almost everyone who's read it and for good reason. The fact that it's not well known is because it doesn't have as much exposure as the anime, but that doesn't it's underrated, just under-exposed. I just made up a new word, didn't I? But anyways, I love the manga, but I can't help but feel that the anime is underappreciated by the people who read the manga just because the manga is better objectively. Maybe even subjectively. OK, the manga is better at storytelling than the anime even at its peak. But still, the anime is fun to watch and has some good moments and is the catalyst of why Pokemon is so popular in the first place. Is it overdone? Yes. Does it deserve to be? No. But it's still something special that I feel like most people don't get. Overall, Manga=Under-exposed(yes, I'm gonna use this word from now on), but greatly appreciated, Anime=Underappreciated, but still overexposed.

So basically Ash when he first started out, but if the writers didn't want to drag on his journey forever and didn't fuck over his progress? I also really appreciate how they manage to have actually menacing antagonistic forces from the very beginning, something the anime only has in the movies and only managed to really get right for the first time with Hunter J and Team Galactic who were, again, actually threatening and could get shit done, not to mention that Hunter J and Cyrus actually died. Of course, Lysandre and Team Flare were also fucking amazing, but they were mostly just for the XYZ arc and not the whole XY Series, which is ok because they worked extremely well inside that one arc.
The thing is: I sure as hell don't want the anime to end, and I sure as hell don't want Ash gone, because I'm one of the few people who love his character and all he's been through to this day. But it's undeniable that the anime would be better if it had that same darker but still kid friendly tone that Adventures nails so well, and again, it's leaned into darker stuff before, Ash and Greninja literally got tortured by Lysander before managing to break out. Let's have more of that, lean more into Ash's darker experiences and how they've affected him and everyone around him. Use all his experiences as a background instead of mostly ignoring them- which Journeys is doing well, but still not perfectly. I swear, I've seen several fanfics who do a much better job at characterizing Ash than the anime does, without it feeling like a stretch or changing his experiences much at all. Not those stupid "Ash Betrayed" fanfics, or fanfics where he's just magically invincible since the start or that tries to recreate his journey from the beginning. It just dives deeper than the surface and looks into the more interesting parts of his character and the shit ton of crazy adventures he's been through. Let's have that in the anime. Make Ash a little older, like, sixteen and use those darker and more interesting experiences to make his character more interesting and tell a more interesting story. I've seen it done, I hope someday it gets turned into more than just fanfic.

The manga is honestly one of my favorite things of all time. I wish they'd make an anime adaption of the series (and remain faithful to it). Yes, Pokemon's creator did say the manga was the closest to his vision than the games & anime. My favorite arc in the series is the original Red/Blue/Green arc; the X/Y arc, and the Ruby/Sapphire Arc. With my favorite characters being Ruby, Blake (Lack-Two), Yellow, and X. My only gripe with the series is that they still haven't printed the last few chapters of the Black2/White2 arc which is STILL going on. Another fun fact is that there are only 2-4 pokedexs per region (only enough for the protagonists) and they're part of a group called the Pokedex holders (these are the main characters), and they'll all named after the game titles (Red, Blue, Ruby, Black, Emerald X, Sun, you get the idea)

And the Pokedex Holders each have a seperate title relating to their talents, which doesn't hold up after a few generations when the good ones have all been used. Heck, cracks start to form when you get to Gold,'s title in the 2nd gen. Red the Battler, Blue the Trainer, Crystal the Capturer... Gold the Breeder.
Actually, if the title system gets applied to the games, Breeder will definitely be the one that is most used. Imagine instead of having to constantly rely to RNG you can actually control what is the Nature, IV and EV of your pokemon when they hatch. Not only it will save a lot of time but it will pretty much allow you to assemble the best team ever.
I’m so happy I’m not the only one who gets that “gen 1 feel”. I love it so much, I remember reading Pokémon adventures as a kid and having the same vibe as the game. I also replayed the RB a ton during the years for that unique “90s Japan” “Kaiju monster” “rougher” feel. I obviously loved the anime too but it felt way different. Btw great vid, instantly subscribed.

I like how they make Koga a part of team rocket because he’s a poison type trainer, and most of the pokemon that team rocket have are poison and dark types.
Finally someone who knows that this manga exists, I have the whole “first series” if you will, and most of the “second season” it’s pretty great
