    Thanks for watching. I have already changed my sprockets to 17/40. I think this the best change that can be made. I also lost 40 lbs. the weight loss has really improved the performance of my 250.

    Thanks for the post. It's a well made video. Right now I'm riding a Yamaha Road Star 1600 and I like it just fine. The thing is when I went to take the weekend MSF course to get my endorsement we road little Suzuki 125s. I'll tell you, I honestly had a blast on those little bikes. They're so much more flickable than the big beast I'm cruising around on now. I've been checking a ton of articles and videos like yours to research what I want to add to my stable. Thanks again for a quality and informative video.

    Daniel Delcruz, I installed the pipes by myself in the parking garage of my apartment building. It was very easy, with basic tools. The pipes sound great, after I experimented with different baffles. I used 9" by 1 3/4" in and out baffles wrapped with fiberglass cloth. Good luck and have fun.

    Hey! The Yamaharley sounds great! I bought the UM-C drag pipes from Webike. They were about $350 plus shipping and came with the 9” baffles. I’m really happy with them. Sounds very much like yours.

    I like the look and your set-up. Do you think your set-up reduced powered in any way? At 61, I am thinking of buying a VStar 250. Thanks!

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think it has little more power, but you know it is probably just my man reaction to noise. The baffles really improve the quality of the sound. With out the baffles the tone had a hollow echo effect. With the baffles, the individual pops have a more defined duration. On throttle close between shifts, the engine has very satisfying quality. Without the baffles deceleration was full of popping and backfiring. With the the baffles the deceleration is very controlled and pleasing.

    • @digitalcammo
      @digitalcammo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deceleration backfire is a result of improper jetting. Baffles just subdue the sound of it, dosnt mean it's not happening. More air in and/or out requires more fuel. A proper mixture will remove the decel popping and backfiring altogether, not subduing it with baffling.

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  11 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The stock exhaust was just too quiet. I love the sound it makes now. I am 5' 11" I don't think the bike is too small. I get around 80 mile to the gallon. The bike weighs around 350 lbs, so it easy to maneuver in traffic.

      Am thinking of doing baffled pipes, maybe west eagle on my 06 Virago 250, but wondering if it affects the power/torque at any part in the range. Would appreciate your feedback.

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need a good baffle to provide the proper back pressure. Experiment to get the right sound, and limit popping and back fire.

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perfect size for Panama. Not too much engine heat in traffic, and fits between the cars on the road, since it is legal to split the lanes there.

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The gases from the front cylinder go halfway done the pipe and are diverted into the catalytic converter which is tucked up under the bike and painted black to hide it. The gases exit the converter and renter the lower pipe and exit the rear. The gases from the rear cylinder enter ahi den pipe and travel down to the converter where they mix with the gases from the front cylinder then enter the top pipe and exit the rear.

    How much less does that exhaust weigh compared to stock? Also, was it really that loud with no baffle? I live in philidelphia and people are crazy drivers here and I want to make sure they see me on my bike (im paranoid about safety but I want a bike so damn bad) and the exhaust helps with that because the stock exhaust is nice and quiet but nobody here notices the people on small bikes.

    • @ford120tractor
      @ford120tractor  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea it was so loud it was setting off all the car alarms. Aloud bike is fun for sure on Saturday night, but it is difficult to live with too much noise on a daily basis. I think the quality of the sound is more important.

  • @ford120tractor
    @ford120tractor  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dan, on the stock V Star 250 exhaust system, the rear cylinder exhaust comes out and goes down to a catalytic converter, that is under the bike and painted black to hide it. The crome pipe that you see is just there for appearances. When you install the west eagle exhaust, you get rid of the converter and the fake pipe.

      I hope you speak some Spanish. There is a club. APM. Associon Panamisto Motocicyste. You should look them up and check them out. I joined the club. Very nice people and they go on nice rides on sundays. There is good place to get repairs and parts. It is MPH. It is on Via Brasíl in Panama City. Get an exhaust that makes you bike a little louder, but not uncomfortable for you to hear it all the time. Lock you bike all the time and don’t leave your helmet or anything you don’t want stolen when you park it. It is legal to split the lanes, but be carful as the adherence to driving laws is terrible. Don’t follow taxi cabs close. They stop for passengers in any lane, not just the one closest to the curb. Cary a fix a flat can in case you get a flat. There is a lot of stuff on the road surface. Never and I mean never ride across a man hole cover in the road. Day or night. People steal them for scrap iron. There is no way to tell if they are missing or not until you are too close, and you will crash if your whell falls into the hole.

      Do not make left turn into a business or a parking lot if there is a solid double line that you would have to cross. It cost me a hundred dollars to bribe my way out of a ticket.

      Get a good set of rain gear. Ride in the rain but remember the rule about the manhole covers, and be careful when riding through puddles. Riding on the toll roads is easy and you can buy a pass that works for a bike. I have ridden my motorcycle everywhere in Panama. I wish I had time to tell you everything but it would take hours.
      Mostly, enjoy your motorcycle and the experience of riding it in Central America. It is one of my most cherished memories. Every day is motorcycle day.
