I admire you and Athletic Alchemy in the way both of you analyze not just the game but the psychology behind the players who are after all human. You don't just ask what, you ask why, and that is rare gift.
Yeah, i have to agree now that you mention it. I like the idea as part of another deal or two smaller ones to make the whole "in for outcoming" add up for the Dubs. But in that you're right, unless a bruiser who knows how to play came back in the other theoretic deal (s,) to make up for losing Looney, his anchor like presence and D and heady play....would be real tough to give that up for Johnson and end up not being able to cover the inside. Looney is a big reason why they're so small yet seem to defend and rebound well. And his O game is sneaky good too. And his again presence and knowledge of Kerr and the players around him, the system...... I'm gonna have to agree with you here.
Losing Looney’s rebounding for Cam Johnson could be catastrophic. Looney is a real asset this season, especially for a playoff team, and shouldn’t be viewed as just a throw-in piece for a trade, especially if it also involves Kuminga. I’d consider GP2/JK, but not Looney.

Good analysis. I would not pull the trigger on any of those trades. You got the pros and cons right, I'm thinking. But I would look elsewhere. Kuminga is expendable. He is not happy as a role player, but his shooting and decision-making don't justify more at this point in his career. Either he does not develop, in which case losing him won't sting if they get a good trade, or he improves and impresses, in which case the Dubs can't afford him. The salary cap situation is brutal. Melton's injury sucks bad. He fit brilliantly. Love his game. Now we have to guess if he'll ever return to what he was. I almost think it's worth letting his contract expire, let him test the free agent market to establish his price, try to sign him at a relative bargain and take the chance that he'll get back his mojo. Might not work out, but sometimes you just have to roll the dice. Looney is more valuable than some folks realize. He's not just a rebounder. He's truly great on screens and picks, knows the system, plays smart. Has a decent mid-range which we don't often see, because on a team with so many shooters, he's looking to pass. Most dependable Warrior ever, no drama. A keeper. I would not let him go unless the gain is transformational. And then I would regret losing him anyway. Schroeder plays like Lillard on offense, but is better on defense. Like Lillard, he doesn't move the needle for me. They are both ball-dominant. That's not the GSW system. The Dubs have dealt themselves a good hand, even with Melton out. I would not let my greed convince me to trade good enough for merely adequate. Look at possibilities, sure - but I'm prepared to stand pat unless something juicy is on offer. 😊
@Newportnews98 his shot isn't there. His decision-making is erratic, especially on defense. At times he does something brilliant. He's an absolute stud, athletically. But he just isn't someone you start unless you're tanking. Kerr tried. He gave Kuminga some starts. The guy just isn't ready for that level of responsibility on a team that wants to win. So he gets to develop in practice and in limited minutes. It's not true that more minutes always results in advancing skills, you know. And there are other guys more ready to contribute reliably. Like Moody. *Especially* Moody. I'd rather see more starts for Moody than for Kuminga at this point. Moses can shoot, knows how to fit into team defense. Kuminga will have to earn his minutes. That's not a bad thing.
No on DS. No on CJ. No on trading Looney. No CT. I like NC, just too expensive. No DFS. The best trade I like is for Jonas Valenciunas. He has a good contract and I don't think (hope) we would have to give up too much for him. We need a bruiser like him for specific situations. I think he would be great for us. We need a rebounding, finishing, and shot blocking big. Not many are going to be able to knock him over. Then if we go small we can go back to Draymond. Just my opinion, I don't want anything from the Nets because of what we would have to give up. Love the breakdown! ✌
I don’t see the massive upside everyone else does with kuminga. The kid is still getting lost on routine plays. Kuminga is a physical specimen but I don’t see how people think he is a going to be a perennial all star.
@@TalibanCTEI think people watch highlights but that’s just opinions I believe he is a future star is super young still and gets better each game I just be thinking some people don’t want kuminga to be a star
My input with jk being possible traded is I just can’t see it happening unless he ask for one , draymond steadily speaks highly of him the owner is on his side etc. it just sucks he’s not getting at least 25 minutes at the moment. I feel it may change and hopefully soon. He’s my favorite young player so with that being said the warriors are still doing great but I just would like to see our young players get a lil more PT.
The best way to keep melton for the dubs would be to keep him this year and re-sign him in the off season using his non bird rights on a long term deal or even another 1 year. Even if they do another one year, they can then use his early bird rights and offer him pretty much what any other team would offer him. It just depends on how much you value Melton
I REALLY don't want us to trade Kuminga or Looney. Especially not for a shooter, that would make us way too jumpshot reliant. Only JK trade Warriors should explore is for a center.
JK for that deal only if part of larger plan ending up with Johnson and player X, etc....will be tough to see, sad. The guy (JK) only ever had one true six week stretch (or so) of starting, and he was really solid, efficient scoring the ball if not the most traditional and steady of players (and yes, JK does lack D and "the small things" awareness too often.) But damn, i really wanted JK to show more signs and just take it....and to be fair to him most places that could have drafted him would have seen fit to give him WAY more run than he's ever got here (other than that six week or so stretch.)
I think rn the warriors are a conference finals/title contender, I think if they pull of a trade and get 1 more piece then I think they become heavy favorites
The way Kerr is using JK, the Warriors are going to lose him for nothing in the summer. I’m sure JK would take less money just to get out of Golden State
They not making it past the second round without a big behind Draymond. If Zubac can destroy you, what you think Jokic gonna do? Or any team with a solid big for that matter?
If we traded Melton for Donte divincenzo, Kuminga + Looney + GP2 for Myles Turner and M bennedict. Lastly Gui Santos for blazers D.Banton these trades would definitely put warriors at the top.
What do you think about trying to snag Jay Huff from Memphis? Hes a 7 footer, stretch 5, offers good rim protection, as well. I dont think he rebounds well, though. But a stretch 5 like that would allow Wiggins and Kuminga to be able to play on the floor together, with draymond at the 4.
I am not convinced that the Nets will want to trade their top players with GS for Melton who is known to be out for this season even if you are to throw in some draft picks. That seems more of a wishful thinking than reality to me.
I wouldn't do any of those trades except schroder and only because you're basically giving up nothing cuzz melton is injured the other players really don't move the needle enough to give up pieces
Melton is too brittle. He missed most of last year too. He has repetitive back issues. They should find somebody else. It was a mistake signing him this year. 6 games for $10 million. I was always worried he wouldn't be there when the playoffs start. Turned out to be a waste of cap space.
That makes major sense, it will give him a chance to rehab with no mental interference and NYC has quality ACL theropy, still make his $12.8M, and be a free agent to sign back with them next year. GET BEN SIMMONS!! And it get rid of PODS before LOONEY anyday
You cant trade an injured player on an inspiring contract and no team will fall for this. Also im not gi img more than Kamimga and more players for Cam Johnson. Hell na.... Kamimga has alot of upside and his trading value is higher than Cam's. Because of his age. Cam Thomas wont work here, and Kerr and front office wont do it. I like there center but we just lost a guy to injury. We cant trade for another injured probe and we need better free throws. I think we should wait, there will be better options in a few months. I just dont see any of these trades being great for the warriors. Loony’s value is under appreciated. And if GP2 hits that shot agents the clippers, he’s untouchable. Critics have look at JK as the scapegoat, they would have to sacrifice Moody & multiple draft picks for Cam, a counter trade would involve JK in it.
