This is the most clear and concise explanation of Boss monster I've ever seen. I've played the game many different ways due to ambiguity in the instruction manual. Even Boss Monster 2 still has a lot of ambiguity in the instructions.

+Watch It Played I do have some questions on some things about the game, if you would be so kind as to help me out here: 1. Are you, at any time, allowed to search the Discard Pile? Due to some cards having effects that have you search the Room Deck OR the Discard Pile for whatever reason, it's led me to believe that the Discard Pile should only be searched when stated too, or if its an option. I'm in the middle of someone else's video trying to explain how the game works, and both players have been going through that thing without anything saying otherwise, just to see what's there. 2. Can Normal Rooms be played overtop of Advanced Rooms in an attempt to change the rooms treasure type to something else for another card to be played in a later turn? I think I have more, but these are two I've got fresh in my head. lol.
+Watch It Played I have one more question: Is this the strongest room you've ever seen?: i.imgur.com/fwhgC9y.jpg Me and my brother just played this match, and the way this room ended up, he had a potential 32 damage. His Goblin Nursery had the level up from Eclipse, he had one spell card in hand and was planning on using Warp Tube as a just-in-case. However, the cleric went to me and died on a room that allowed me to draw a spell card, which I drew the one that makes a hero in his dungeon skip a room - and because he had a full dungeon it made him skip two rooms. After that, he got one more epic and only had 8 damage from 32(would of been 9 but I had a trap that allowed me to lower the Goblin Nursery by one damage point). The epic he lured had 12 health and he lost because of it. It was a win or lose two round situation and I was just wondering if that would of been the highest damage counter you've seen? xD
Thank you so much for the help. I saw the front cover of this and immediately bought it with no hesitation. Played (the wrong way) for hours with my friends, but it was still fun!
Hi Rodney. Thank you for that video. It was a great help to learning the game. There are 2 things (and maybe more later) that I am not clear on. 1) You cannot introduce Epic Heroes until the Ordinary Heroes are all gone. Does this include heroes that are in town? If they are not yet claimed do you keep building rooms until they are claimed by someone, with no new heroes coming to town? This could lead to an impasse if everyone refuses to build rooms so as not to attract a strong hero... 2) If all other opponents are eliminated, do you automatically win as the sole survivor even if you do not have 10 souls? The rules say you need 10 souls to win. So, if everyone else is eliminated do you need to keep playing alone to see if you die or get 10 souls?
I'm glad the video was helpful! Revealing Epic Heroes happens as soon as the regular hero deck runs out, so you don't have to clear the regular heroes out of town before the more powerful ones start rolling in. Players could choose to work together to avoid new heroes coming into town by keeping their treasure types tied with each other, but it's likely someone will want to try to grab more points eventually. As for being the last player remaining, you can indeed win that way! No need to have 10 souls in that case.
Watch It Played Thanks Rodney! That’s a great help. Your tutorials are very clear and easy to follow - thank you for that. I am currently trying to figure out the monster that is Gloomhaven! If you get a chance to do a tutorial on that it would be awesome!
I backed the Boss Monster for PC Kickstarter, and have extra cards from the PC version for my physical game. I also backed Boss Monster 2. So much replay.
You probably won't see this as its a 10 year old vid but Rodney's videos are my go to for learning board games. He sets everything out so well and is so easy to follow. I do a piss poor imitation of him when teaching my friends; like a cheap knock off version.
I try to keep up with all the comments, no matter how old the video, so thank you kindly for the very nice works about the work. Don't be too hard on yourself, I have the benefit of a script and editing!
Your videos are absolutely amazing, so informative and clear. I was wondering: if two boss monsters have the same xp, how do you decide who goes first?
Thanks so much for this (as always)! One question though: Can the non-active players play spell cards during the adventure phase? If so, then I guess the active player has a chance to respond with spell cards as well? For example: Can the non-active player play two Assassin cards when a hero enters a room on the active player's dungeon?
Here's how the rule book describes it: "Priority: You are the active player while you are placing a room face-down during the Build phase, or while you are “processing” Heroes in your dungeon. If another player plays a Spell while you are the active player, you may play any number of Spells or abilities and they resolve before opponents’ Spells or abilities."
@@WatchItPlayed might I suggest a few that I've my eye on and would prefer you to better explain them.... talisam kingdom hearts and wizards wanted. Thanks
I’m wayyyy to late to this but I had a question. How long does it take to move a hero through your dungeon? You said if a hero is in a room when it gets destroyed he moves on, but how long does he stay there. It just had me confused. Does he move one room every turn? Please help if you can. Thanks!
It's been awhile since I shot this one, but you may find it helpful to check out our game play to see the game in action: th-cam.com/video/u1-WkdHu8Cg/w-d-xo.html
I'm back with a question...the trap room "the crushinator" if you use the effect on a room that says "you may destroy this room...." does it gain that effect as well?
Hey Iris, I avoid getting into individual card effects, as I cover so many games, that it would be impossible for me to stay on top of that much detail. You may find this helpful though: bossmonster.fandom.com/wiki/The_Crushinator
Thanks, you inspired me to get this game. I've seen your logo on the back of a couple of board games I bought so you must be doing well. And deservedly so.
The rules put it this way: "Before a Hero enters the dungeon, after a Hero has been damaged by a Room, or before a Hero enters the next room, players can play Adventure Spells or activate abilities. The active player’s Spells/abilities will always take priority and resolve first, followed by other players in XP order." Hope that helps!
You might have said this but when the hero is placed in someone’s dungeon does it only move once every turn or does it go all the way through the dungeon in one turn
You said at the 1:00 mark, remove all cards higher than the number of people playing. In your example you had a 2 player game so 3 and 4 player cards were removed. If you had played with 4 people, does that mean the 2 and 3 player card were left in the game or removed?
It says to remove all of them with counts higher than the number of players (not other than that number, which is what your suggestion is doing). So in a 2-player game you’d remove the 3 and 4 cards, with 3 players you’d remove the 4 cards (leaving the 2 and 3), and with 4 players you’d keep all of them. Think of the player count as being for that many or more, so a 3 card is used then there are 3 or more players.
I don't know if I miss this part but what happen when a hero enter in a dungeon room and there are other dungeon rooms under it? Will the hero take multiple damages or just the damage of the top room? For example: [1]]] [2] [3] [4] [5] [Boss], the Hero reach the room [1], the card's damage at the top is 1, the 2 cards under deals 1 and 2 (total of 3), will hero get 1 damage or 4 damage? o.o
We played this game last night and it was awesome. Had to check out your video so we could get a couple things straight. Great video by the way, very informative. Just a couple questions though.. How is a room destroyed? Are you talking about a spell card or what the card says to do, or do certain rooms get destroyed when a hero goes through them?
Hello I have a question, I bought it and I do not have much idea of two things: how do the magic cards work in order? Specifically, how does the counterspell card apply to another? Type if the active player uses a magic and another player uses the counterspell is it deactivated? Or it doesn't work because the active player's card has priority? Or let's say that order doesn't matter, what happens if the active player uses a magic, another activates a counterspell and another activates another magic and has higher priority (XP) than the counterspell player? Deny the card of the other player with higher XP? Or that of the active player?
Hey there Gaming in the Time, I usually do my best to answer all rules questions on my videos, but I lent my copy of this game out, so I can't easily look up the rules for you on this one, I'm afraid.
Hi Rodney! I love your channel and videos, they help me so much! I wanted to ask what happens if you destroy a room with rooms to the left of it, such as if I destroy the room next to my boss monster. Do I move all of my other rooms to the right or do I keep that open and build my next room there?
Thanks for checking out the video! I shot this long enough ago I don't recall from memory, and don't have a copy to be able to check the rules for you, sorry!
So can advanced rooms be played at anytime such as during the first five rooms or only on top of the matching treasure cards? Also when do you draw spell cards?
+Kacie Glass Advanced Rooms are “upgrades” that can only be built on existing Rooms with which they share at least one Treasure type. After the beginning of the game, you may only draw new Spell cards when a card specifically tells you to do so.
Well I've had this game for about 6 years.... great to learn how to play it. But in the instance you showed, you destroyed an advanced dungeon and the dungeon underneath said give +1 to adjacent rooms. Would it give the +1 to the next room after the advanced room was destroyed?
@@mikehobbs4280 Hi Mike, I shot this video long enough ago, I don’t recall the rule right now and I’m traveling, so I can’t easily look up that rule for you. I might suggest checking the BoardGameGeek rules forums for that game if you’re looking for a timely assist. Thanks for checking out the video and have a great time playing!
Hello! I loved this video. I just have some doubts about destroying rooms: do you destroy them during the construction phase or during the adventure phase? And now I understood that it may be done during the adventure phase, but my other question is, is the room below a destroyed room valid for that round? Or until the next round? Thank you so much!
It's been awhile since I shot this video, but I feel the answer must be yes. Any hero entering the room under the one that was destroyed would still suffer its affects rather than skip over that spot.
When you have rooms with abilities that must be declared by the player in order to activate, can you declare the room abilities on either player’s build or adventure phase? Ex: Destroy this room to gain one spell card.
Sorry, I’m traveling for a few days, and don’t have the game handy to check for you. You may want to check the BoardGameGeek rules forum for Boss Monster to see if there is already an answer there or to ask.
Question. If I freeze a dungeon room in someone’s action or build faze and they have multiple heroes going through their dungeon does the freeze spell only apply to first hero that goes through or does it stay on there and apply for all the heroes that go through the dungeon for that turn?
Unfortunately, I shot this long enough ago, that I don't recall, and I don't have a copy handy that I can check this for you. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
I understand the difference between an ordinary room and an advanced room but are there any mechanical differences between a trap room and a monster room? Or is that just for extra flavor on the card?
Cameron Yu I lent out my copy of the game, and am having trouble remembering if there is a distinct difference, though our game play episodes will likely clear this question up, if you get a chance to watch them.
Ok I will watch them, but my guess is that the trap room and monster room key words were there just for extra flavor and you don't really have to worry about that. I was just asking for a second opinion and thanks for responding.
***** Oh I found the answer in the gameplay video as you said. I don't think there aren't general rules about trap rooms vs monster rooms but individual cards have interactions with them. The example was the Dizzy gas Hallway trap room. Its ability reads "If the next room in your dungeon is a trap room it has +2 damage. So you were right, it did answer my question. Thank you.
Hi Rodney :) I just want to ask if I can put an advance monster or trapcard next to my boss monster? and if I can use it as a normal room to add in my dungeon and not by just adding it on top on the existing room card. Thank you for this tutorial it help me clear lots of things ! thumbs up👍
+Nelly Ann Velasquez Hey Nelly, glad you liked the video! Advanced rooms must be built on top of ordinary rooms, but they can be placed next to your Boss Monster.
First play through with a buddy. She loved it as did I and therefore that's a win. A few scenarios came up and I didn't know the right answer to them so I ask for your assistance: Does the Monster's BallRoom card equal the amount of cards in your dungeon PLUS that card? So If I have four rooms plus this one, it would be worth 5 damage? How Does Minotaur Maze work? Can you Mulligan the Dracolich Lair room or is it that once you discard two cards you're locked in? When you Teleport Spell a Hero back to the beginning does restore the health or is it a loop to further damage that Hero? I think that was it D:
Hey Monroe, sorry I can't be of more help. When it comes down to specific card interactions and rules, I generally advise checking with the company or googling (it gets hard for me, over time, to remember exactly how all the various cards work :) )
•Monsters ball room does not include itself •The minotaurs maze sends the hero back to the previous room and when the hero comes back to the minotaurs maze again for the second time, it has no effect
Thanks a ton!! I was playing it all wrong XD. One question: on some monster rooms inside de the heart it shows a little slow star this by instead of a number. What does this mean?
I'm a couple weeks late so you might have found the answer already, but Monster Rooms with a star instead of a number for the damage it deals should tell you what that number should be in the description of the card. For example, I don't remember the name of the room, but it has a star for the damage and it says that its damage is equal to the number of rooms in your dungeon (which would range from 1 to 5).
What if you leave a hero in town? Your original 2 heroes had 1 that would have been left in town due to a tie. If the round concludes and there is still 1 hero in town, where do you put the new ones in relation to the leftover hero and what order do you go in from there? Do you try and lure the 2 new guys 1st in the next round? Or does the hero from round 1 get 1st dibs?
I'm about 6 years late to this video but it was still so helpful and such a great way to show me how to play! thanks a lot for the help cause the manual ... well it kinda sucks.
I've been trying to find rulings for this everywhere but can't seem to find it. When you destroy a room for a card effect, can you only pick rooms on the top? or any rooms you have built? Also does adding a room on top of an existing room add the new rooms damage onto the old rooms? thanks.
I have a question, you can put multiple rooms stacked on each other right? not just once? also, do the stacked rooms count towards your level up progress? (the ones laying below i mean)
I've got a question! Say my opponent has two fighters at her dungeon, due to her 3 Swords they want to loot. And I use a spell that holds them there for one round. On the next round I build another Sword room, giving my total Sword count to 3, so we are tied. Do the two fighters leave her dungeon and go back to the inn, or do they continue through anyways because they were there on the last turn?
+Kal Drake I don't have the game nearby, and don't recall the wording of the Spell that holds them in place. My memory is that they go back to the Inn, but I'm not certain.
***** The spell is called Trepidation. It doesn't prevent heroes being lured, but it prevents those at a dungeon from going in. bossmonster.wikia.com/wiki/Trepidation There's a few specific rules I run into when gaming where the rule book doesn't go over at all, this is one of a few. Thanks for you help though, really enjoying the game!
When 2 Hero's attack a dungeon on the same turn...do the rooms the 2nd hero travels through deal the same damage as they did to the first hero that traveled through them. Are the room deactivated when a hero travels out of them? If so this would make it kinda hard to kill a second hero attacking your dungeon on the same turn.
Hi there: can you play a advance rooms in the build step with no normal room first? Or, are advance cards only played as aún evolution to a room after one common one is placed first?
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
When using a card ability that allows you to destroy a room in your dungeon, because it does not specifically say (active room) does this mean you can destroy rooms in your stack underneath the active room?
Can you please explain in more detail how spells work during the adventure phase? Which players can cast them? In what order are they resolved? How many spells can be cast? Are there any counter-spells and how are these resolved?
Hello! One again thanks for your videos. I have a doubt regarding the Globlin Armory example. It says that Monster Rooms adjacent to that room have +1. This kind of abilities are always active or only when entering that room? (Does the room at the left has that buff?)
thank you SO MUCH. this was so much easier to understand than both the game manual and the quick start guide (which were both written from the perspective of "here's how to play a game you must already 100% know how to play"). my friends and I ended up confused and frustrated, so we went to playing Guillotine and Adorable Pandaring. I do have a couple of questions: I may have missed it, but I'm finding it unclear as to when spell cards are played, and when (and if) you pick up new ones? my second question is: what happens when you end up in a situation where no one has any rooms or bosses that can lure any of the heroes who are already out? we had 3 people, finished our first build phase, so we had 2 rooms apiece and yet the 3 heroes that were in town didn't match any of the rooms that anyone had. do we add 3 more heroes to the town? if I wasn't clear with the questions, let me know. I know I can make things sound weird sometimes. but again, thanks for the video (I'll be sending it to my friends so we can play this soon!) and thanks in advance for answers to questions!
Glad the videos were a help Kathartik! The timing of when spells can be played, is addressed in the video (but it's been long enough since I made the video, that I don't remember off the top of my head). If the heroes are not attracted to the dungeons, no worries, just finish that round (with no heroes running through) and start a new round. New heroes will come out, you'll do more building, and eventually, you'll have a combination where heroes will want to adventure in your dungeons :)
When playing a 4 player game what happens if you run out of room or spell cards, also can you only play spell cards at the beginning before rooms are built or can you use them at any time?
+Bobby Champagne If the Spell or Room deck is depleted, immediately separate the Room and Spell cards in the discard pile and re-shuffle the cards back into their respective decks and continue play. You may play any number of Spells per turn, but may only play Spells during the Build and Adventure phases.

Say I want to upgrade or build over a room during the build phase so I place it face down on top of the roof being built over. Am I not able to use the old room's abilities now since there is a face down "under construction" room on top of it?
I’m not quite sure I understand the question. Where in the video do I suggest placing cards face down on a room? That might help me understand what you’re referring to.
@@WatchItPlayed in the beginning of the build phase you play rooms face down, and turn them face up at the end then apply whatever effects. Well if that room you played is replacing or upgrading an existing room (ie played on top of) is that room now inactive in the middle of the build phase
@@richardkane3509 Ah, I understand now - thanks for the clarification (I recorded this a few years ago, so I was a bit fuzzy). My understanding is that as soon as it is covered, that effect is gone, BUT, the rule book doesn't really clarify that one way or the other that I can see, unfortunately.
Hi, thanks for you'r help, i have a question if i had a card that says "monster room adjasent have +1 " it afects monster rooms only or it can afect advanced monster rooms too
When more than two players playing. Can a player play a spell on another player even though it is neither players active turn? Then if so. That player has a chance to react or is he defenseless against that spell? Or can the player respond by doing a room ability or spell card? Then is it xp order for the spells resolution?
Thanks this is a major issue we are having. Because if you are lower xp then you are royally screwed. I personally think that no spells can be played except towards the active player.
Nathan Cormier It is true that in a 3-4 player game, Spells between non-active players are resolved in XP order. We haven't seen this create issues, because in most cases where timing really matters (like responding to an Assassin with a Cave-In) are only relevant when one of the players in question is active. Or if you want a particular Spell to resolve without the chance for players to react (like Jeopardy), you just wait until a moment when you're the active player. Are you seeing a particular Spell that non-active players are able to abuse to the detriment of lower-XP players?

Due to some cards having effects that have you search the Room Deck OR the Discard Pile for whatever reason, it's led me to believe that the Discard Pile should only be searched when stated too, or if its an option. I think I have more, but these are two I've got fresh in my head. lol.
+Floyd Hunter 1. Yes.
2. An ordinary Room can always be played on any Room type.
+Watch It Played I have one more question:
Is this the strongest room you've ever seen?:

Me and my brother just played this match, and the way this room ended up, he had a potential 32 damage.
It was a win or lose two round situation and I was just wondering if that would of been the highest damage counter you've seen? xD
+Floyd Hunter That seems like it might be :)

I try to keep up with all the comments, no matter how old the video, so thank you kindly for the very nice works about the work. Don't be too hard on yourself, I have the benefit of a script and editing!
When you have to discard 2 cards in the beginning does it have to be 1 spell card and 1 room card or can it be 2 room cards or the 2 spells?
Any combination you choose.
Thanks for making the video, really simple and clear explanation. I got the game for Christmas and I cant wait to play it at our next game night.
Merry Christmas and I hope you have a great time playing!
Thanks for a thorough explanation; definitely renewed our interest in a game that otherwise would’ve been shelved. Great video!
Great to hear it was helpful!
I just picked this up the other week and I look forward to showing it to my gaming friends. Thanks for the thorough look at the game!
You're very welcome - I hope you all enjoyed!
Looks awesome! Was on the fence, but this video really convinced me to take the plunge!
Hope you enjoy it Ian!
Your videos are absolutely amazing, so informative and clear. I was wondering: if two boss monsters have the same xp, how do you decide who goes first?
Thanks for the kind words! The rules don't provide an answer for this, so in a case like this, I would choose randomly (flip a coin perhaps).
when you place a room on top of another one, do the abilities and damage stack, or does the top one cancel out the ones underneath?
The top cancels out the ones underneath.
thanks
Just got this game for Christmas and this wasn’t explained clearly (to us) in the rules. Thank you very much, and great video!
I already bought this game and can't wait to play it with my buddies! thank you for a very informative video.
Hope you had fun playing!
This was a very straightforward tutorial it helped all my friends understand the game with no confusion thanks :D
Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks for the video! I wasn't sure about a few things after reading the instructions but now everything is clear! :)
same here!
Glad the video was helpful!
Perfect explanation, thank you! Just got this for Christmas and was quite confused by the written instructions...
Very glad this video helped! Merry Christmas :)
Got this at gencon yesterday thanks for teaching me!
My pleasure - hope you have fun!
Very nice explained and absolutely perfect presentation. Applaus for the preparing.
Thank you Sel - glad you liked it!
Thanks for making this video. Very easy to follow! Nice presentation.
David Brinnen Thank you for the kind comment David.
How do you get Spell Cards after Set up? Can you only get them with Room effects?
That's right.
okay
We just bought this recently after watching this tutorial and we love this game! I cant wait to get the expansions!

So here I am watching a 6 years old video of a Game that I've played a Lot of times just because I love how the games are explained here!!!!
Ah, that's so nice to hear - glad you're enjoying :)
Thanks so much Dave - yes, thanks to a very encouraging and enthusiastic audience, the show continues to do well, and I'm very thankful for that!

Well thank you so much, very pleased to know you enjoyed them!
One of my favorite games! Glad to see it getting more attention.
Even though tom vasel gave this game a bad review, I used this video as a excuse to get the game anyway! And I love it! Thanks Rodney!
Great to hear it was a good fit for you!
Best tutorial. You sir have an amazing charm. Amazing voice.
Thank you kindly Chris.
Hey, thanks for the explanations! bit I still have a question, when in bait phase, when are you allowed to use your spells? whenever you want?
The rules put it this way: "Before a Hero enters the dungeon, after a Hero has been damaged by a Room, or before a Hero enters the next room, players can play Adventure Spells or activate abilities. The active player’s Spells/abilities will always take priority and resolve first, followed by other players in XP order."
Hope that helps!
Watch It Played Ah thanks, now I understand, keep up the good work :D
I have no words to say thank you, the.video is amazing, my english isnt good, but your explanation was so useful to me. So, thank you.
That is so nice of you to say - very glad to hear you found the video helpful Marco!
I thi k i shall definatly be getting this looks great fun. One question.... what benefit is it to build a room on top of another room ?
If the room on top is better than the one beneath.
You might have said this but when the hero is placed in someone’s dungeon does it only move once every turn or does it go all the way through the dungeon in one turn
Hey Rhys, yes, this is in the video, but just so you know, yep, it tries to go all the way through the dungeon.
You said at the 1:00 mark, remove all cards higher than the number of people playing. In your example you had a 2 player game so 3 and 4 player cards were removed. If you had played with 4 people, does that mean the 2 and 3 player card were left in the game or removed?
Since cards marked 2 and 3 aren't a higher value than the number of players in your example, they aren't removed. Hope that helps!
For example: [1]]] [2] [3] [4] [5] [Boss], the Hero reach the room [1], the card's damage at the top is 1, the 2 cards under deals 1 and 2 (total of 3), will hero get 1 damage or 4 damage? o.o
Top room only.
thank you very much :D
We played this game last night and it was awesome. Had to check out your video so we could get a couple things straight. Great video by the way, very informative. Just a couple questions though.. How is a room destroyed? Are you talking about a spell card or what the card says to do, or do certain rooms get destroyed when a hero goes through them?
Galen Snyder I'm not sure the specific moment in the video you are referring to, but yes, rooms are only destroyed when a card says to do so.
Thanks for that. I got this game down now with the help of your video.
Galen Snyder A pleasure - hope you have fun playing :)
Dude i just bought this today thanks for this awesome video now i know what i'm doing and it was money well spent.
Ronoras21 Hope you have a great time playing Ronoras!
Boss monster is such a fun game, thank you for the tutorial
A pleasure to assist!
Great tutorial. But I'll need to watch it a million more times to get it. 🤣
Another question, are we supposed to mix the spell cards and room cards discard piles together?
Yes.
Thank you for the answer, btw, you can only build one room per turn right?
Yes.
very awesome! any chance you would do a run through of the expansion packs for Boss Monster?
I don't pre-announce games we'll cover, but I can say, we don't typically cover expansions.

Such a great game. It's a favorite at some of our member's game nights.
Wood Planet Gaming Lodge And they have a sequel coming for the game soon, I believe.
Indeed they do. The Kickstarter is sometime in the coming months. Definitely looking forward to it.
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you for replying!!
Thank you.
Cameron Yu Great to hear :)
Wow... what a great explanation. The kids love this game!
Thanks Adam - glad they've been enjoying it!
If you play a dungeon on top of another dungeon do heroes take damage from the one on top and bottom as well as applying their effects?
Just the one on top.
First play through with a buddy. She loved it as did I and therefore that's a win. A few scenarios came up and I didn't know the right answer to them so I ask for your assistance:
Does the Monster's BallRoom card equal the amount of cards in your dungeon PLUS that card?
So If I have four rooms plus this one, it would be worth 5 damage?
How Does Minotaur Maze work?
Can you Mulligan the Dracolich Lair room or is it that once you discard two cards you're locked in?
When you Teleport Spell a Hero back to the beginning does restore the health or is it a loop to further damage that Hero?
I think that was it D:
Hey Monroe, sorry I can't be of more help. When it comes down to specific card interactions and rules, I generally advise checking with the company or googling (it gets hard for me, over time, to remember exactly how all the various cards work :) )
•Monsters ball room does not include itself
•The minotaurs maze sends the hero back to the previous room and when the hero comes back to the minotaurs maze again for the second time, it has no effect
•once you discard, you're locked in
•The teleport spell does not heal them
It's very useful if you have a high damage room as your entrance
Thanks a ton!! I was playing it all wrong XD. One question: on some monster rooms inside de the heart it shows a little slow star this by instead of a number. What does this mean?
Good question! I don't remember and I lent the game to a friend, so I can't check. Perhaps Google knows.
MrSelkies But it still has the 2 damage counters, that star replaces the player icons so must be something to od with that
What's the name of the room?
Pixel Lincoln and Demigod I believe
What if you leave a hero in town? Your original 2 heroes had 1 that would have been left in town due to a tie. If the round concludes and there is still 1 hero in town, where do you put the new ones in relation to the leftover hero and what order do you go in from there? Do you try and lure the 2 new guys 1st in the next round? Or does the hero from round 1 get 1st dibs?
+Rodney Jones My understanding is that new heroes line up behind older ones.
Wow! Thanks for the quick response! Great game. Great tutorial....but we were doing it backwards...more of a last in 1st out method.
Is it possible for all five rooms to never be built? And if a room has an effect, are you always bound to execute the effect? Thank you in advance.
Yes and yes.
I'm about 6 years late to this video but it was still so helpful and such a great way to show me how to play! thanks a lot for the help cause the manual ... well it kinda sucks.
You're never to late to learn a new game :) Glad the video was helpful!
I've been trying to find rulings for this everywhere but can't seem to find it. When you destroy a room for a card effect, can you only pick rooms on the top? or any rooms you have built? Also does adding a room on top of an existing room add the new rooms damage onto the old rooms? thanks.
Wilson Hoang You can only pick rooms on top, and you only count the room on top, for it's effect, strength, etc.
I have a question, you can put multiple rooms stacked on each other right? not just once? also, do the stacked rooms count towards your level up progress? (the ones laying below i mean)
You can stack multiple times. The stacked ones don't count for your progress towards 5.
Thanks so much for the quick reply!
You're welcome Fury :)
how long is the build phase? and can you put as many rooms as you want at a time (not exceeding the 5 room max)?
You build, at most, one room, per build phase.
*****
The spell is called Trepidation.
It doesn't prevent heroes being lured, but it prevents those at a dungeon from going in.
bossmonster.wikia.com/wiki/Trepidation
There's a few specific rules I run into when gaming where the rule book doesn't go over at all, this is one of a few.
Thanks for you help though, really enjoying the game!
+Kal Drake Ah yes, I see what you mean. Does look like they just sit there at the other players entrance.
Rooms are not deactivated, they continue doing their damage to all heroes that pass through.
I may look into this one, looks neat.
Hi there: can you play a advance rooms in the build step with no normal room first? Or, are advance cards only played as aún evolution to a room after one common one is placed first?

When using a card ability that allows you to destroy a room in your dungeon, because it does not specifically say (active room) does this mean you can destroy rooms in your stack underneath the active room?
You can only destroy an active room (meaning, a room that is on top).
THANK YOU that was driving me nuts
Can you please explain in more detail how spells work during the adventure phase? Which players can cast them? In what order are they resolved? How many spells can be cast? Are there any counter-spells and how are these resolved?
You'll find the rules for Spells at 5:37. I shot this long enough ago that I don't recall if there are counter-spells.
Hello! One again thanks for your videos. I have a doubt regarding the Globlin Armory example. It says that Monster Rooms adjacent to that room have +1. This kind of abilities are always active or only when entering that room? (Does the room at the left has that buff?)
It is always active and applies to the rooms on both sides.
Ok, thanks for your help.
If you have five rooms cards out already do you have to play another room? Or can you skip playing a room if you like your dungeon
You never have to build a room, it's always optional.
thank you SO MUCH. this was so much easier to understand than both the
game manual and the quick start guide (which were both written from the
perspective of "here's how to play a game you must already 100% know how
to play"). my friends and I ended up confused and frustrated, so we
went to playing Guillotine and Adorable Pandaring.
I do have a couple of questions: I may have missed it, but I'm finding
it unclear as to when spell cards are played, and when (and if) you pick
up new ones? my second question is: what happens when you end up in a
situation where no one has any rooms or bosses that can lure any of the
heroes who are already out? we had 3 people, finished our first build
phase, so we had 2 rooms apiece and yet the 3 heroes that were in town
didn't match any of the rooms that anyone had. do we add 3 more heroes
to the town?
if I wasn't clear with the questions, let me know. I know I can make
things sound weird sometimes. but again, thanks for the video (I'll be
sending it to my friends so we can play this soon!) and thanks in
advance for answers to questions!
Hi Rodney, quick question what size are the cards?? are they standard magic sized cards??
Yep, standard Magic size.
I sleeved all mine and still fit in the box, funny how a little plastic sleeve adds another quarter pound to the weight of the box.
Watching this makes me want to break out my copy of boss monster. Thanks Rodney!!
My pleasure, and thank YOU for watching the video, even though you already had the game!
What happen with the cards from the Boss who died? Hero or Epic Hero cards go to the bottom of the Hero or Epic hero deck?
Rafael Borges No, you put them to the side either face-up representing a wound or face-down representing a soul to keep track of your losses or wins.
Thanks to Bronze for the assist!
I got a question and hopefully you can answer it. What happens when you run out of either spell cards or room cards? Do you get some? If so, how many?

When more than two players playing. Can a player play a spell on another player even though it is neither players active turn? Then if so. That player has a chance to react or is he defenseless against that spell? Or can the player respond by doing a room ability or spell card? Then is it xp order for the spells resolution?
Outside of dealing with the Active player, my understanding is that you default back to XP Order. I'll see if the publishers can confirm that.
