    A short video in Olalla Reservoir where we were catching yellow perch. Earthworms were the go-to bait that day. Just a slow, lazy summer day on the lake.
    For my fish finder, I was using the Humminbird Helix 12.

    Awesome video. I like the way you shared your set-up. I'm going fish hunting tomorrow. 😁
    I'm going to use a light set-up like yours for the first time. I'm trying to catch somthing other than catfish. Thanks for sharing.

    Curious if this is an Oregon lake? I really love yellow perch-we use to have them from Lake Erie where I grew up. Great fish fries on Friday nights at the Polish Club:) But I’ve not found any places near me with yellow perch. Those were some dandies you caught!

      Yes, this was at Olalla Reservoir in Toledo, OR

      Thanks! We’re heading out to the coast for the 4th-we’ll be north of there in Nehalem, but we’ll be down that way later this summer. I’ll definitely give it a try:)

    I have the same humminbird. I never see a good catfish or carp arch. Do u see good arches on that unit?

    Would have been nice if you went over how you found the fish using the Hummingbird because when you were catching them, nothing was on the fish finder. Is the fish finder just a depth finder?

    They do not have the yellow perch here in Oklahoma, I quit using earth worms probably 30 years ago. I always found they likes Crickets better, plus you might get a bass, or Crappie.

      Too bad there are no yellow perch in Oklahoma. Arguably the best tasting of all fresh water fish . In Ohio we catch them in Lake Erie. Some of them weigh close to one pound and are 12-14 inches long.

    Is the ollala reservoir closed. I heard it was but can't find any information that's not from a couple years ago.

    So how did you like the perch? I've found they are best if you fillet them and to move the skin. they have very tough scales and can be tough to scale without the proper gear.

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      N.A.C. Fishing they are great pan fried. I scaled them before marinating them in a Cajun rub

    Hi, you should show how you fish, i.e., a little more before the fish was hooked, how you retrieve, how you pop... There are people watching just for fun, but there are others want to learn something.

    Hi bud just wondering how many feet usually good for fishing perch? Tia

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the rod length? I was using a 6'6". From a boat, you can even use a 5 foot, or 6 foot. These yellow perch were pretty small, so you don't need heavy gear.

    I saw that you can't use motors on this lake is this true? I see you have a trolling...I have a 12 raft with a trolling motor. I am looking for a good place in oregon to fish for yellow perch so far unsuccessfully any tips would be very appreciated

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, "gas" motors are not allowed but electric is ok

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also, most lakes on the Oregon coast have yellow perch. they are pretty thick in there, Olalla is a good one. some other lakes: woahink, munsel, takenitch, siltcoos, tenmile.

    I'm really not trying to be mean when I say this, but that kiddo is gonna negatively affect a lot of fish if he is using a dry towel to grab them as they come in. I can understand wanting to protect from pokies and what not. If he is getting into catch-and -release fishing, he should probably learn about fish and their slime and what it does for them. Taking it off with a towel, or something like that, can make life hard for them after being caught. Fishing for food is another story, but I just felt like pointing it out after recently talking to some fish biologists.
    Love the videos!
