I couldn't have put it better myself. I love how he doesnt try to be fake about anything. It is what it is, like it or move on. This is my favorite TH-cam channel
Use your cleaning /fillet board, clamp the fish by its head, run in the knife down to the back bone, turning the knife toward the tail, cut along the back bone and stomach to the tail but don’t cut the fillet from the tail, flip the fillet over and cut the fillet from the skin. After you get the hang of it it is real easy to fillet fish.
Thanks for taking me along fishing. Even though I'll soon be 65, I've learned things from you I've never known. I'd love to return the favor by teaching you how to fillet perch, bass and bluegill, etc. if we ever meet. You have gotten me to think outside of the box as far as fishing locations. I truly appreciate you!
Well , I learned something today . I'm 66 years of age and I always thought of perch , beautiful fish by the way , as being a pan fish . It's always enjoyable to watch your work . Happy Holidays.
I grew up in Wisconsin. Every Friday there were countless fish Fry's. Couldn't get enough fried Perch fellets. Perch is one my favorite freshwater fish to eat. I highly recommend it. Another very enjoyable video.
I heard you shout out my name on your live feed.. how strange to hear my name spoken on the computer.. and yes I always commnet.. I feel I just want to keep your spirit up and support you the best I can.. besides, being an old retire fart I have become a fair weather fisherman and need my fishing fix in the cold weather.. also I can not get around so well any more and really miss those nice little hikes into the fishing spots you go.. It brings back fond memories.. I still plan on sending the thing I said I would.. but I am having a bit of trouble gathering it together.. Those are real nice perch.. I like the colors of them too.. as for the clean and cook.. Well... I was surprised you didn't do that much.. I am not a great fish fan but I do like fresh fish now and then especially while out camping.. Salmon of course is my favorite.. But a nice brown or brookie trout is good to.. and your right you can make anything taste good if you cook it or bake it right.. my sister once made me a mock apple pie with just flour and water and a few other things (no apples) and it tasted just like a good apple pie.. Well thanks for the shout out (is that the right word?) it was funny.. carry on, be safe and have a great holiday season..
Oh man! I thought for sure you were going to cut your fingers trying to clean that fish!! Good looking perch, never caught one. I always see little ones swim by when I’m wading in my local creek. Their bright colors stand out so much!
I learned to clean fish efficiently working briefly at a resort as a teen. Perch are one of the best eatin' fish. Some people like to season their fish 'til you can't taste anything but the seasoning. A little flour, salt, and cornmeal is all you really need. I like my food simple.
I like cooking these simply dressed. The lake by my house, the yellows don't get too big. I cut the head and tail off and clean out the guts. Cook them skin on in the oven with some Old Bay, parsley and lemon. The cool thing about perch is the entire rib cage and backbone lifts away in one piece pretty easily once cooked. Great string of dinner you've got there, Brother. Congrats! 🍻
I didn't know I had OCD until I watched you clean fish 😂 😂. It's still funny and awesome to see you try new things though. My grandpa and I use to travel to Canada every August to perch fish. This video brought back some great memories!
Man, with those sized Perch I just scale and head them and eat them like small catfish.....mixture of corn meal/flour/salt/pepper///////and maybe some lemon to drizzle over the finished product.
don't worry, it only takes practice when it comes to cleaning fish. if you plan on doing another, spotted bass have a lot of meat for the size and are easy to clean, they are a good beginners fish to clean.
Perch are the best fresh water fish you can eat... better than crappie. Have to keep your grease hot and cook them until the browned...but 1st soak them in lemon juice and milk for then toss them in self rising corn meal/ flour mix with old bay and salt . White flaky golden crispy 😋 .....You did good man trial and error is how I learned to clean perch. I want to see you do another catch and cook ....love the authenticity
As always, another great video... I really enjoy catching yellow perch and hope to be able to catch more soon. Anyway, really enjoyed the video, keep on doing what you do and what you love. Tight lines and God bless you, John
Yum yums, I accidentally cuaght a yellow perch once, Had no idea what it was but I kept it and took it home, my grandfather had no idea what it was but we cooked it up and ate it, to bad I haven't cuaght one since.
I grew up in Russia where we fished to eat the fish we caught no matter the size because the times were tough. I'm just starting to get back to fishing here in the US. I live in Tennessee as well by the way!
I thought I was one of the only ones who fishes all of the time and almost never eats fish. I catch and release almost all of the time but every now and then I will keep a redfish, flounder, or pompano for my wife to eat because she loves fish. Growing up in the Adirondacks we would get some brook trout or small perch first thing in the morning and cook them up right on the shore as a shore breakfast and that was really good. Good times and Fun stuff!!
Never tried them before but heard they were pretty good. looked like you were out by yourself at that place. Peace and quiet and fishing at its best. Great video
You'll fine tune the cooking just as you have the catching! Popular dip we used with yellow perch was horseradish sauce, ketchup and tobasco . Pull em up thru the hole in the ice and into the pan! Fresh as fresh can be!
Catching a double is a blast. You use the same set-up I do, basically rigging a drop shot with two hooks; one about a foot off the bottom and another about 3 feet off the bottom. Gorgeous fish! And sorry, but I had to laugh when I watched you trying to fillet these fish!
If you love perch, LM and SM bass, you would really love fishing around Skull Island in Harrison on the Chickamauga in the spring. Hump back Rebel with gold on top and just drift with the wind. There is a ramp there too so easy to put in your kayak and just make a trip around the island especially while the water is still down. Several good points to fish along the main channel within a mile downstream. Caught my biggest small mouth there. Wear yourself a shirt you don't mind messing up because those stupid perch squirt all over you every time you land one.
@@CreekFishingAdventures If you like perch, just go to the southern tip of the island and throw as long of a cast south as you can with whatever is your favorite lure. The best fishing around the island is on the west side all the away around counter clockwise to the east side of it. I used to fish there all the time when I had a boat and didn't work full-time. You can still fish the sheltered areas in your kayak, but if you get a some minor north to south or south to north winds, you can fish the west side of the island with crankbaits really slow . Have a good night
I've only caught about half a dozen yellow perch in 30 something years of fishing. All of them I've caught were 2-3 pounds, not that it matters they're weak fighters compared to other fish in that size range.
I don’t think I can use more than a single hook where I catch yellow perch but I’ve doubled up on Redtailed Surfperch on the beach and that’s always a blast! Thanks for the video!
I love Yellow Perch ! Next to Trout they are my fav. in fresh water. In simi -salt White Perch are great. When there running ya can catch em three at a time on 3 hooks. I used only two cause some are rather large . Not real big just enough for light line (8-10 #) .Blood worms are the best, they go crazy for em. They range from abought a pound to some 2 pounders. And they are good sport. Allways a good time seeing you, God Bless ya. Tom DB, FL.
I know this was 5 months ago but I just subscribed and have been watching some of your older stuff, especially since where I live we’ve been getting so much rain and ant get out there myself. I like your fishing. As for the filleting, I have some advice. Use that beautiful board with the clamp. Clamp the face area of the fish. Cut just in front of the side fin (on the head side) at an angle towards the back of th fish. Run your fillet knife to the side of the backbone you are on, all the way to about 1/2” before the tail. Now flip that piece over (still slightly connected near the tail. Run your fillet knife between the skin and meat. You will be left with a fillet with no skin and only the rib cage bones which you should then cut out. Now flip the fish over, reclamp, and fillet that side. Takes a little practice but it gets easier and you will get the most meat without bones. And you use the clamp and cutting without cutting yourself as you cut away from your hands. All the while you will have something (clamp and then attached skin) to provide resistance. I love using Zataran’s medium hot breader to coat my fillets before frying. Delicious
I love Yellow Perch. One of my favorites to eat. Practice makes perfect with cleaning and getting a decent filet. Breading and frying is my favorite way to eat them. That takes practice as well to not over or undercook them.
I'm going to try the Trout slayer and trout magnet off the pier on Lake Michigan this year for perch and smallmouth. My only worry is that Gobies and sheephead will drive me crazy. Come on up north in Indiana some time and fish the BIG lake !
In europe we have an almost similar perch and they bite on every weather, under all conditions. For ice fishing they are perfect! And the taste is even better than sander. Smoked perch is also delicious. Beautifull autumn colors in your vid! Like allways: thx for taking us out and thx for the zitate of the book at the end of your vids. BTW: fileting fish is sth you really have to learn. Best if you start doing like 100 of these small perches. You gotta have a feeling for the knife and learn where the bones are. Almost like learning to read a creek. ;o)
Yellow perch just don't get that big. But they are plentiful. When filleting start from the tail end, you will get more meat. Neat trick to use pliers to grab the skin. We always just pan fried them in butter with a little salt and pepper. Flour optional!
Awesome. I love that place. I actually took my wife there Monday. It was 30 degrees and the water was low. It was so shallow in my normal fishing spots but we still caught over 50 perch. Great times fishing there.
This guy I used to work with would make what’s called poor mans shrimp. Take the yellow perch meat & boil it & then immediately drop it in ICE cold water. He said it gets the texture of shrimp. Nice video my friend
Nice catch and cook video! I remember catching these as a kid. I can't remember what they taste like . . . I will need to remedy that, lol. Awesome stuff!
Fiesty little buggers! Good eating too! I’ve used crappie rigs and have had doubles several times. Filleting fish takes practice, definitely TH-cam a few methods. Great video. Now I have a hankering for fried perch!
Hey you worked at Chick-fil-A?? Me too! 21 years haha! I think I am the opposite: I can cook a little but can’t fish worth nuthin! I love your videos and I love creeks. I hope to find me some good spots to fish soon…
Way to get out of your comfort zone with these. I love the, “There, I did it. Are you happy now?” touch at the end. lol. When we finally hit the water if you want to do a catch and cook don’t worry about the cleaning and cooking. I’ve been doing that since I was 10. We have a fish fry, baked fish, grilled fish or sautéed fish tacos about once a month. 👍🏻
For Yellow perch you can use chewing gum wrappers and catch them. Yellow perch is some of the finest fish fair there is, bar none. They have to be fileted after scaling, cut down along the back bone front to back on each side and the belly should keep the two filets attached.
Try leaving the head on and make your first cut behind the fin by the head. Make sure your knife is sharp. Cut along the bone line and you will have more meat. But you did a good job. I enjoy your videos, especially the encouraging scriptures at the end of your videos.
I really enjoy the genuineness of your videos. They’re not like watching a movie, they’re more like hanging out with you. Good job!
I couldn't have put it better myself. I love how he doesnt try to be fake about anything. It is what it is, like it or move on. This is my favorite TH-cam channel
that's the truth!
Yellow perch are a bunch of fun to catch, they're so aggressive. They're probably are my favorite panfish to catch
Use your cleaning /fillet board, clamp the fish by its head, run in the knife down to the back bone, turning the knife toward the tail, cut along the back bone and stomach to the tail but don’t cut the fillet from the tail, flip the fillet over and cut the fillet from the skin. Been there a time or two.....gorgeous lake with no development on it. Full of perch too. Good video John.
Very cool 2 at one time. I like the kayak stuff. I also enjoy kayaking and creek wading myself
Yellow perch and smallmouth and even the blue gills are really good eating

ok thanks, i might have to try that there next time, and also bring an anchor
