Kobe never was that person which is why the Lakers gave him so much money especially on his last contract where he was just injury ridden but they kept him the highest paid NBA player because of his body of work he put into the game and for the franchise. You don’t get that by being average. You have to do the extra work.

@@alexedsell8138Shaq was the best player in his prime because he was gifted physically in a way that made him literally unstoppable. His game in terms of skills had nothing special compared to other bigs of his generation or generations prior, he was just playing bullyball most of the time. Which is why as soon as he exited his prime he fell off very quick. On the other hand superstars like Kobe and Bron who spent the most of their time working on their game (working out, being in the lab, studying the game etc) kept dominating the league even in their latest years because they didn’t rely on their gift, instead they abused it by combining it with skill and iq. Hell Kobe casually put up 60 on his last game like it was an everyday thing to do for a dude on his 20th season. But it only is because he never stopped working.

Just like in weightlifting, there’s a certain point where you are no longer helping the muscle and just lengthening the amount of time to recover. He needed to relax a little more, he needed to bond and build trust with his teammates a little more too. Encourage & motivate instead of just intimidate. Still wouldn’t have had to go out clubs and party to do that either. It would’ve helped his performance, stats and most likely another ring or two. I bet he had some teammates that hated him so bad that they didn’t care if they lost, maybe even wanted to lose just so Kobe would lose.

All of you saying that this doesnt make sense have clearly never found something worth dedicating your life and being to.
Kobe did not treat playing basketball as a 9-5 job like how we treat our 9-5 jobs. We work 9-5 to keep lights on, pay the bills, put food on the table, pay rent. Kobe played basketball out of love and passion. He has even said that his practice and workouts never felt like "work", and that is because of his pure love and drive to get better every minute of every day. It's this love and drive that he NEEDS to see in his teammates for him to trust them, and if he doesn't see the love, drive, and passion then he can't. Is it a bit insane? Yes, but no one that is as successful as kobe is in his sport is sane. Ordinary work achieves ordinary results. Legendary work achieves legendary results, and that's why he's a legend and why he tried to push his teammates all the time. It may have not been the "right" way, but it was a method that helped him with 3 chips with shaq and another 2 without shaq.
