Kraken 50 - Cabin Layouts with Dick Beaumont

  • Find out from Dick himself exactly what he terms the "library effect" on a Kraken.
I was once again highly impressed with the interior craftsmanship and wood joinery in the Kraken 50!
The great thing about the cabin layouts is their flexibility. Yves ended up choosing a layout option that worked much better for his family, but this owner wanted a specific large storage area for his golf clubs and foldup bike. Just another reason to buy a Kraken for it's customization!

I love 2 very important points made in this video. 1. Slamming slowly breaks the fiberglass. This sounds silly but... We saw in a recent race around the world that massive carbon fiber structural pieces that the structural engineers said would never break did in fact break from the constant slamming. 2. We will not shrink the engine room to accommodate a birth. This is brilliant because safety is more important.

As an aerospace design engineer with a specialty in composites design, flexing doesn’t mean you have micro cracks in the fiber glass. Everything even the most stiff carbon fiber will flex. It’s all about the strain allowable. At a certain amount of flex/deformation/strain is where you get the cracks. I dont like people saying if it flexes you have micro cracks, that’s not true. However I agree if you can notice the flexing it’s probably too close to the yield stress/strain of the composite. 10:32. I am just being a critic because I love this guy, company, and boat. Wish I could have one.

I very much appreciate Mr. Beaumont and the yachts he builds, but many of his statements regarding materials and material behaviour are... Well, he is a good marketing man, let's put it that way.

Constructor of hull where first doing for cabin layout are should build river pontoons 😄?
Yachts for open sea first should be perfected about and then see how best fitting cabins in bow.
Some flat bottom good for rental in caribbean or meditarian people 99 % in harbour barbecue or swimming.

I mean no disrespect... I just notice that your husband looks very skeptical about some of the things he is hearing... I was wondering if it is because he is like the rest of us here in the United States and he is used to sales people who just tell you what they know that you want to hear just to make a sale, even though it is a lie and they are only trying to up sale you to get more of your cash!

I wish I could do Dick Beaumont's gravelly english accent, "Akchuly when yohr ahn a baout that's heeled ovah feefteen o twinty deegrees, the awnly thing ah need awr sum andawds and sooft pillows. Ahw don't need aighty piercent off awl this awther stoof." I wish he'd make one for all us other working stiffs, smaller, same philosophy without all the doohikies, complete with fair-haired maiden.

I love if master cabin is in stern...
Nice would be used larch or birch wood. Edges are rectangular and other wood would be more modern.

In my Tayana 55 I have cushions for the back of the boat to lay around . There always in the way if not out on the deck . There huge . A Kraken settles almost every issue I find to have with my boat .

i see many of the interior design features from the Discovery 55 on the Kraken 50. Query: I saw Dick try to get at the low, covered toilet paper. It seems a might inaccessible.

Who is Mr. Musto. He is in the shadows, so one must assume he is personal security. Is that a requirement to own a Kraken? Haha.

Something I noticed above the berth over the golf club storage - there was a handle on the ceiling to hold onto whilst getting in and out, great design.

So, the air con with chill air can be run with batteries (and eventually out of solar if you have enough solar panels) but warm air con only runs via genny. Would that warm be enough for sailing in really cold areas (below temps) where you have to run it for long periods? Dick’s comments about the air con system should be a dedicated episode!

Awesome boat and Dick is an extremely experienced expert with a wealth of information to share but you can’t hear him as Amanda has a higher volume and is ducking and weaving through cabinets etc., missed much of Dicks vital information

Somebody answer me this: is the Amel 50 and the Kraken 50 similar in quality as a blue water vessel? I love the Amel 50 helm station.

The new Amel is an Amel in name only. I let you draw your own conclusions. IF you are interested in an Amel I would look at the 54, best Amel ever made.
