Planting a Field Without Farm Tools

  • We've planted with no tools, and we've planted with all the attachments of 1940. Let's compare! It's taken us 5 years to move a third acre field section of weeds, back into productive grass.
    We began rehabilitating this field section by moving a mid-field manure pile, a gravel pile, and rubble cement chunk pile. Then tilled up the field and sowed new seed. Keeping down weeds has been a huge challenge. In 5 months, we achieve better results using the right equipment.
    We do not monetize any of our videos (we do not get paid). Advertisements support TH-cam and Epidemic Sound- our source for the music used in our videos.

    Getting things to where you want is an example of the old adage;
    "It's a work in progress". I appreciate your tenacity. Hold strong and keep your faith🙏. Your family is precious❤.

    Glad to see an update on your farm! Are you still using Dexters or mini Jerseys?

    You should make a update video on your 5 ton log splitter

      That is tempting! I've got a few too many videos in the queue, so for now for your interest, it's absolutely great and running strong! Other than that it seized up completely on year 2 after I left it out in the rain for a few weeks. The motor casing had filled with water and rusted inside. It disassembled really easily and I got the rust gunk cleaned out in about an hour of work. Since then I've kept it inside and it continues to split logs far over the size it is supposed to, though we've definitely found its limits (any knots over 2.5"). It's nice to have a semi-portable splitter that only makes noise when necessary!

    My first year has been a challenge. I just keep telling myself "If it were easy everyone would be doing it" 😅😅😅

      I feel this. It’s even worse when you’re trying to maintain your property by hand. I don’t have money for any expensive equipment.

    Do you need to harvest the grass before it gets a seed head? PS: Love your channel!

      We typically harvest after the grass flowers. For the cheat grass, we definitely try to get it eaten or cut before those flowers turn to seed.

    Have your cows been bred yet?

      That's complicated... yes and no, and in the window behind this browser I have the concluding video that talks about that being built right now. Hopefully we'll have that out within the next several weeks!
