  • This video demonstrates how to cast on stitches for knitting using the Backwards Loop Cast On method (also known as the "e wrap cast on"). This is a handy and fairly easy technique, and is particularly useful for casting on stitches in the middle of a row/round.

This is very good. I had to use this to cast on to the right hand part of a circular needle when knitting in the round. This saved me and the pattern!

I’ve only used this for things like the gusset of mittens. I’m about to do a project that calls for this as the first cast on so I thought maybe I was calling this cast on the wrong thing all this time.

Is this the same as ‘ loop cast on’ ? Thanks

I have a pattern that asks for this method of cast on at the end of a purl row. Can this cast on method be used at the end of a purl row or would I have to turn the work at the end of the purl row first before casting on. I had almost finished a pattern but couldn’t sort this so have had to undo the lot!

To me it seemed as though she wrapped the first loop clock wise. I’m more confused.

Whether it's clockwise or counter-clockwise would depend on what you're calling the starting point of the yarn. For me, I visualise that the yarn starts at the needle, then travels around behind my thumb, and then down into my hand, which makes it a counter-clockwise direction. I wouldn't worry too much about that though, the important thing is just that your yarn set-up makes the correct loop before inserting the needle - the thumbnail picture actually shows it quite well. Hope I've been able to help!

I will try watching another video to learn this, unclear for me how to accomplish this.

It's just a long tail cast on, on the working yarn side.
