  • G'day guys and girls!
    A short review on the 2x2.5m Eclipse awning by Darche. There wasn't much out there on this particular awning, so I thought I'd share my 2 cents. Let me know what you think!

    For those wondering -
    The Darche awning uses 320 GSM as opposed to the Kings 170GSM for reference.
    Great informative video mate , helped me settle on the Darche awning because of the few important key details you've mentioned.
    Cheers!

    Just received my 2.5x2.5 eclipse awning and pleased to advise the zippers now go right to the top of the cover on each end,don't know about the 2.0 version.

    Thanks for the review.
    I just mounted the same awning today. I bought it from Snowys back in 2019 for $300.73
    Yes, it took me 4 years to open the box😂
    I also got the annex (walls) for $361.84
    I had the same problem with the (too short) brackets, so I made my own about 350mm long.
    Thanks again.

    Yep good review, I'm checking out awnings currently. I've been thinking about the 270 on my 4x4 but I think I like the slimmer, easier setup and weight savings of the standard awnings. I'll check out the 23zero and Rhino along with the Darche awnings. Cheers!

    Thanks for the intro review - due to poor design and quality I’ve broken my second one which is a well-known budget brand and I’ve noticed the aluminium thickness and design of the eyelets for the Darche one is identical - the aluminium strips easily bend and rip the pole pin eyelets open when your trying to inset the horizontal poles or when it’s windy - I’m going to attach aluminium plates to strengthen these end sections - I drilled shallow holes in the extension pole plastic joiner to insert a middle vertical pole because the extension poles bend with wind and after a heavy shower - the Velcro strips eventually become useless but the awning material is very good and keeps the sun and torrential rain out - John in SA

    Nice review, I was hoping for a demo on how you get this up single handed, I’ve been trying for days but can’t manage it with any ease!

    With my Rhino pioneer platform, I used the supplied L bracket with my Darche Kozi awning which is (2kg) lighter than this Eclipse model. I just took to the brackets with my angle grinder and painted the ends where I had cut to prevent rust. With a heavier awning, i'd definitely be upgrading the brackets. And would it kill them to use high-end YKK zips?

    Any chance of a follow up? Not sure if I should spend 2x the $ on this or go Kings or meet in the idle with an Ocam. Only for beach use 5 or 6 times a year...

    • @MrSmashley1989
      @MrSmashley1989  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate, I'd 100% recommend this one. Mainly it's that I've found the components superior. From the length of the spigots, to the stitching on the fabric, to the thickness of the metal. I also find the density of the Kings awning fabric to be thinner. It's almost like a dense shade cloth as opposed to a proper thick fabric. Some swear by the Kings, and I have nothing against them. Some of their products are great for the price you pay, but for me I'm very happy with my decision.

      SmAsh RG 4WD cheers mate, one more question - do the outside feet of the awning have a spigot that goes into the ground or a flat end cap?

    • @MrSmashley1989
      @MrSmashley1989  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate! The Kaon brackets are shorter, yes. However, they are also wider and allow for 2 bolts to sit in the one bracket side by side to double the tension on the awning. Also its handy as it leaves the next channel over clear for you to mount your bits and pieces.
