looking at you, you share your knowledge from the bottom of your heart, you"re genuine person, you're such a pleasant person, I'm 55 years old, just started learning, and the person who taught me how to read notes is a 14 year old girl from a small town Philippines and she told me becuase music is sharing, and you're doing exact same thing.

My sax tutor showed me how to tweak, shave, and trim reeds back in the day - he used to gig on cruise ships so he had to be able to resuscitate his reeds.
I bought a trimmer and ever since I've adjusted my reeds. I like the reedy tone of Rico Orange reeds and it's a fun evening sitting down and going through the box rating the reeds for tone and ease of playing and adjusting the also-rans. The best thing with Ricos is I often get them cheap (sometimes free!) from people upgrading to "better" reeds! 😎

Thanks for this Mick. I never trim reeds personally but I use this technique a lot which is why I wanted to share it with other players 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎

Great tip! Appreciate it! I have a Reed Geek that I use for other purposes like shaving down the table a bit since many are a little warped…it also works well to shave down and shape the reed the way you like it…Can’t wait to try this trick!

Thanks for this Pete, would you mind sharing your experience and let me know how you get on with this tip please? It doesn’t work with every single reed but hopefully you’ll save at least some. Please let me know 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎

I'm watching all your videos. I'm looking for one in particular but I haven't found it yet. A lesson on exercises to be applied to enclosure. It would be really useful 😀

I was using the ReedGeek on the Vandoren V16 reeds then decided to go with Rico Plasticovers and virtually all of them play out of the box. Now for an easier life I am using Legere Signature or American Cut reeds and pretty happy with them. I'm playing bari, but now moving to the same reeds on tenor and alto.

I haven’t tried plasticovers for years. Last time I did, just couldn’t find my sound. I’m open to trying again though 🎷🎷

Lynden , it’s a good tip . Have you tried a Legere French cut .. love the one I purchased . Synthetic but great .

Hiya Trefor. I haven’t tried one for a long time, I probably should but great to hear that you like them 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎

I will have to try that! Thanks! I have some questions: How long do reeds normally play for you? I mean, once you find a good one, will it last for a month? And can you refurbish them or do you just have to toss them? Also, I'm wondering about playing firmer reeds. I suppose that is an issue having to do with pairing with the mouthpiece... but I've never had much luck with the stronger reeds.

Reed life really depends on how much you use it but I’d expect a reed to last me at least a couple of weeks if not three and I play a lot, then throw them away 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎

Man ! Get rid of your reed headache and switch to the LEGERE reed. Always stabel and consistent. I play the Signature or Americna Cut. Very very happy. They make my playing so much easier. So go for it and try it out.

😂😂thanks for this. I have tried them but I just can’t seem to find a sound I like. I should probably try again.

Sorry to hear that 😒. The switch from a traditional reel to the synthetic may take a few days to accommodate. I agree you have to get used to the feeling which is quite different. But again what a convenience. It plays right out of the box each and every time and under any weather condition✌.

I went from Boston sax shop to legere French cut. Finally found one with the dark velvety sound I like.

You are true. Synthetic sounds like a duck. But for day training it is sufficient (legere then yamaha). I do the same thing on my wood reeds + some times paper sand. It is ok to get a week more with the reed. Thx for your video, I'm sure new saxophonists can get new information.
